Achraf Hakimi is ‘Facing 15 Years in Prison’ Amid Rape Allegations

Published

on

Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi is said to be facing trial after inviting a woman into his home near the French capital, according to reports. Hakimi, who is coming off the back of his best season to date after helping the Parisians to their maiden Champions League title – contributing with 11 goals and 16 assists in all competitions, including the first goal of the game in the final against Milan – could face a long-term sentence.

In 2025, French prosecutors have formally signed off on a final indictment, seeking to have the 27-year-old brought before a criminal court on official charges. It’s now been confirmed that he will face trial.

It is claimed that if found guilty, the full-back could be sentenced to 15 years in prison – the maximum given for the crime he is alleged to have committed.

According to a report from French outlet Le Parisien, as per the Sun, the incident in question dates back to February 2023. A 24-year-old woman is alleged to have told the police that she met the Moroccan international in January via correspondence through Instagram.

After a month of speaking to each other online, Hakimi is claimed to have ordered her an Uber to his Boulogne-Billancourt while his wife, Spanish-Turkish actress Hiba Abouk, was on holiday in Dubai with their two sons.

After arriving, Hakimi is said to have kissed her mouth and breasts through her clothes without consent. This was then allegedly followed by an assault. According to the alleged victim, she managed to push him away with her foot and leave, texting a friend to pick her up.

Later that same day, the woman went to a police station to report the incident, giving what was described as a “statement of rape,” though she initially chose not to file a formal complaint.

In the weeks that followed, she submitted messages to investigators that reportedly reflected her emotional distress after the alleged assault.

On March 3, 2023, an investigating judge formally charged Achraf Hakimi with rape. He was briefly taken into custody before being released under judicial supervision. Hakimi has denied all allegations from the outset.

On December 8, 2023, the woman confronted Hakimi during a session in the investigating judge’s office, where she restated her claims. The footballer once again rejected any wrongdoing. In 2025, spokesperson for the Nanterre prosecutor’s office confirmed that they had “requested that the investigating judge” refer the Hakimi case to a criminal trial, signaling their intention to move forward with formal prosecution.

Now in 2026, via the Daily Mail, Hakimi’s lawyer Fanny Colin confirmed a trial had been ordered, and the prosecutor in the Nanterre suburb of Paris confirmed it. They said:

“A trial has been ordered on the basis of an accusation that rests solely on the word of a woman who obstructed all investigations, refused all medical examinations and DNA tests, refused to allow her mobile phone to be examined, and refused to give the name of a key witness.”

After the latest news, Hakimi said:

“Today, a rape accusation is enough to justify a trial, even though I deny it and everything proves it’s false. This is as unjust to the innocent as it is to the genuine victims. I calmly await this trial, which will allow the truth to come out publicly.”

Hakimi’s legal team added that “it is with determination and resolve that we await this trial so that justice may be served.” The plaintiff’s lawyer, Rachel-Flore Pardo, said her client was relieved to hear the case was going to court.

PSG manager Luis Enrique was asked ahead of the Champions League play-off second leg against Monaco, whether Hakimi’s case changes anything for the team and whether he remains the vice captain. The Spaniard said only: “This is in the hands of the justice system.”

Hakimi also addressed the accusations in an interview back in January, claiming that there was a plot out against him. “The truth is that when you are successful and things are going well, you become an easy target for certain people and that taught me that you can’t trust many people around you.

“They wanted to blackmail me and that’s why we filed a complaint and it’s going well. The justice system handled things rather well.”

In the wake of the most recent update, A prosecuting official said: “It is now up to the investigating judge to make a decision about a possible trial within the framework of his order.”

A representative of the alleged victim stated: “My client welcomes this news with immense relief. Nothing in this case suggests an attempted racketeering. We will not tolerate any smear or destabilisation campaign, as is unfortunately still too often the case for women who have the courage to report the rape of which they are victims.”

However, Hakimi’s lawyer, Colin, spoke out against the prosecution’s latest move, saying: “These requisitions are incomprehensible and senseless in light of the evidence in the case. “It establishes the plaintiff’s lies, particularly through the psychological assessments conducted on her. Achraf Hakimi and I remain as calm as when the proceedings began. “If these requests were to be followed, we would obviously pursue all avenues of appeal.”

At the time of writing, Hakimi remains free on bail.

Martin Odegaard Speaks on Neymar Clash After Norway 2-1 Brazil

Published

In what was an absolutely engrossing encounter, Norway have knocked Brazil out of the World Cup. Erling Haaland stole the show with two goals in the 2-1 victory, but there were plenty of other talking points as well.

The Manchester City forward rose highest to head in the opener after 79 minutes, before then essentially putting the game to bed with a stunning strike to make it 2-0 in the 90th minute. From here, Brazil substitute Neymar would net a late penalty, but this wasn’t enough to keep his team in the tournament.

In the dying stages of the game, Norway put on a masterclass in keeping the ball away from their opponents, with Arsenal star Martin Odegaard dancing around the pitch. Usually the one pulling off the tricks, Neymar took issue with the midfielder and they were involved in a little coming together late on.

Neymar Loses it With Odegaard During World Cup Defeat

Numerous clips have gained traction online, showing Odegaard and his teammates keeping possesion with great technical skill, while the Brazilian players failing to win the ball back. In an act of both frustration and desperation, Neymar then brought the Arsenal ace down with a cynical foul.

Shortly after the resulting free-kick, the pair clashed once again, with Neymar shoving the Norway captain in the chest, prompting a number of other players to rush to get involved in the minor melee. The Brazilian was then booked. Watch the footage below:

Neymar did get on the scoresheet for Brazil, but his tempered even flared up in that moment as well, as he had a verbal spat with Norweigan goalkeeper Orjan Nyland before scoring his penalty. Despite the antagonisation, Odegaard and his teammates did well to keep their cool and have the last laugh as they won the game to set up a quarter-final encounter against England.

World Cup: Sepp Blatter Makes Feelings Clear After FIFA Suspend Balogun’s Red Card

FIFA’s decision to suspend USMNT star Folarin Balogun’s one-game ban has sparked outrage, and now Sepp Blatter has given his strong views.

Neymar Waited For Odegaard As Norway Captain Speaks Out

As the full-time whistle was blown, Neymar was seen bursting into tears with this almost certainly his final shot at World Cup glory. Now aged 34, he may also never play for Brazil again.

In fairness to the Santos star, however, having calmed down a little, he then showed good sportsmanship as he was seen waiting for Odegaard to pull out of a hug with teammate Sander Berge. He then embraced the Premier League-winning midfielder as the pair appeared to make amends while sharing a quick conversation.

It’s unclear what exactly was said between the two stars, but Odegaard has commented more generally on his little spat with Neymar, revealing to the press how he really felt about the Brazilian after full-time:

“Yes, it got a little awkward. But there was a good atmosphere afterwards. So it ended well.”

Brazil have now failed to win the World Cup since 2002, with 2026 marking the Selecao’s sixth consecutive tournament without lifting the trophy. Norway will hope to make positive headlines again when they now take on the Three Lions on 11 July.

How Fast is Erling Haaland?

Published

Erling Haaland is universally recognised as one of the most physically impressive footballers on the planet, and it plays a key role in his consistent success.

His game is built on power, movement and physicality, and it directly enhances his ability to score goals at a freakish rate, and it’s even more impressive that he stands extremely tall at 1.95m.

It makes him a defender’s worst nightmare, and it’s the reason why he sits among the best players on the planet. But just how fast is Haaland? And how does he compare to other footballers and other athletes?

We know he’s fast, but just how fast is his total speed? According to UEFA, his career high speed came in the Champions League 2024/25 season, with 36.9 km/h.

Typically, players never record their top speed on the pitch. This is because it occurs during 30–40m of clean acceleration and most match sprints don’t tend to exceed 20m, according to multiple sources.

Most top speeds recorded are when there are unobstructed transition moments, usually on the counter-attack or something that resembles a track sprinter’s runway and football has too many variables.

It means Haaland’s genuine top-end speed is likely higher than any figure we’ve actually seen recorded.

Haaland’s pure power and pace puts him within the elite bracket of players. However, he isn’t at the summit of the fastest players. With technology getting increasingly better over time, the last decade has given us detailed and accurate comparisons.

Speeds that have been recorded faster than Haaland’s 36.9 km/h include a handful of players. In the Premier League, five players hit a quicker figure. Anthony Elanga (36.91), Chiedozie Ogbene (36.93), Jackson Tchatchoua (37.30), Kyle Walker (37.31) and Micky van den Ven took the top spot with an incredible 37.38 km/h.

At the top of the list is Kylian Mbappé with 38.00 km/h, who achieved it against Monaco whilst playing for Paris Saint-Germain. There are other so-called recorded figures, but they aren’t from reputable sources.

How Does Haaland Compare to Other Athletes?

Usain Bolt

Whilst his speed on a football pitch is frightening, when it compares to other athletes, it is certainly put into perspective rather quickly. Other athletes to compare include American Football, Rugby Union, Rugby 7s and the Australian Football League.

Oleg Markov in the AFL and Tyreek Hill in the NFL both recorded 37.4 km/h (roughly 23.24 mph) in 2019 and 2016 respectively. Ahead of that are Jonny May and Louis Bielle-Biarrey in Rugby Union and Gary Rohan and Charlie Comben in the AFL — with all four registering 37.8 km/h.

The only two other fastest times are in Rugby 7s, with Perry Baker/Marcos Moneta scoring 40.3 km/h in the HSBC World Series. Sitting in second place is the fastest ever speed recorded on a rugby pitch by Carlin Isles at 41.4 km/h.

At the top of the tree is the fastest man ever recorded: Usain Bolt. His 100m world record in 2009 was measured at 44.72 km/h (27.8 mph), which is roughly eight km/h quicker than Haaland’s peak. That demonstrates the pure velocity that sprinters possess in comparison.

Sepp Blatter Slams FIFA’s Decision to Suspend Folarin Balogun’s Red Card

Former FIFA president Sepp Blatter has lashed out at the controversial decision to suspend Folarin Balogun’s one-game ban until next year to make him available for the World Cup quarter-final vs Belgium.

The striker was dismissed for an accidental challenge on Bosnia’s Tarik Muharemovic following a VAR check. But the intervention sparked outrage as there appeared to be no intent.

European football’s governing body has waded into the debate

However, there have now been suggestions that the United States of America have been given preferential treatment over the Balogun case as a host nation. A phone call made by the White House and Donald Trump’s close relationship with Gianni Infantino have done nothing to quash those complaints.

Blatter, who stepped down from his position as FIFA boss in 2015 due to investigations over fraud and corruption, has now weighed in on the Balogun controversy.

The 90-year-old has made it very clear that he’s not happy about politics being involved in football. He slammed the idea that ‘political phone calls’ could have any bearing on the decision to suspend Balogun’s ban. He tweeted:

“Red cards are not overturned by political phone calls. They are overturned by rules, evidence and independent bodies. If a U.S. President intervenes with the FIFA President — and a player is suddenly cleared before a World Cup knockout match — the question is unavoidable: Quo vadis, FIFA? Football must never become a playground for political power.”

It’s not the first time he’s been outspoken about issues around the 2026 World Cup. In fact, Blatter urged fans to boycott the United States of America this summer.

FIFA’s Reasoning For Folarin Balogun Decision

FIFA have denied any political influence on the decision, stating it was made by an independent committee. A statement from world football’s governing body said:

“By operation of Article 27 FDC, the implementation of the automatic match suspension for USA player Folarin Balogun is suspended for a probationary period of one (1) year.

“If Folarin Balogun commits another infringement of a similar nature and gravity during the probationary period, the suspension shall be revoked and the sanction enforced without prejudice to any additional sanction imposed for the new infringement.”

But what is ‘Article 27’? Well, the rule book states: “The judicial body may decide to fully or partially suspend the implementation of a disciplinary measure. By suspending the implementation of the sanction, the judicial body subjects the person sanctioned to a probationary period of one to four years.

“If the person benefiting from a suspended sanction commits another infringement of a similar nature and gravity during the probationary period, the suspension shall be revoked by the judicial body and the sanction enforced without prejudice to any additional sanction imposed for the new infringement.”
