WWE fans have been left concerned after footage of John Cena struggling to get out of a car has circulated on social media.
The retired wrestler was videoed tentatively stepping out of the vehicle and stiffly walking away in a hunched over posture. The 48-year-old appeared to be in discomfort, prompting discussion online over the toll Cena’s wrestling career has taken on his body.
Having spent over two decades in the ring and establishing himself as one of the greats of WWE, Cena’s fruitful wrestling career appears to have left a mark on his physical health.
In a post on X, which has garnered online attention, WWE fan account @left2reigns said: “Seeing John Cena struggling to get out of a car and walking slightly bent with an awkward posture really says a lot.
“That’s the price of everything he put his body through during his wrestling career. He didn’t give up. His body did.”
The comment section was flooded with support for the wrestling icon, with one fan commenting, “My GOAT” and another saying, “All the bumps, make a wish, fan meet-ups, 24*7/365 days of hard work, sleepless nights for the past 20-plus years… Nothing but respect.”
John Cena’s Honest Admission About Physical Condition
Cena has spoken openly about the physical burden of wrestling for so many years, and the limitations of his body that led him to announce his retirement.
In 2025, prior to his retirement, Cena said during an episode of Stephanie’s Places: “By continuously coming here (to his personal gym) and being disappointed and then asking myself the question of, this place usually makes me feel good, ‘Why do I feel bad?’ And it was because I’m surrounded by pictures, by numbers. That’s a 600lb squat, or that’s a cleaning jerk with 330lb, or that’s a 300lb snatch. I can’t even do those lifts anymore because my body’s so beat up.
“My skills are on regress. If I continue at a full-time physical capability or involvement, I’m not going to run right, and my partner is not going to run right, and our relationship isn’t going to run right.”
Cena officially retired from in-ring competition on the 13th of December 2025, after his final match at a special event where he faced Gunther.
He made his debut back in 2002, and became a central figure of WWE programming after adopting the Doctor of Thuganomics rap persona.
After 24 years in the game, he racked up 17 World Championships, more than anyone else in the company’s history, and became one of the longest-serving faces in WWE.
While the physical toll of his career is evident, other chatter surrounding health issues remains speculation and the wrestler has not commented on any new problems.
