Richard Hughes Future Update Emerges Out of Liverpool After Al-Hilal Links
Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes is not in talks to join Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal, according to a journalist.
The 46-year-old was linked with a surprise move to the Middle East this week, but a fresh report suggests Hughes is not moving closer to a potential Anfield departure.
Reports on Tuesday claimed Hughes is on a three-man shortlist to become the new sporting director at Al-Hilal, with agents reportedly convinced there is strong interest in the 46-year-old.
Hughes joined Liverpool from Bournemouth in June 2024 and oversaw an unprecedented summer transfer window last year, with the club spending over £400 million on new signings.
FSG Remain Behind Richard Hughes
According to journalist Graeme Bailey, FSG remain behind both Liverpool CEO Michael Edwards and Hughes, and have no plans to seek a new sporting director:
“Hughes is widely considered to have managed a very tough summer very well last time around, smashing clubs records to land the likes of Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak.
“We understand that FSG are fully behind [CEO Michael] Edwards and Hughes, and have no qualms that he remains one of the very best.
“Sources indicate that it would not be a shock if someone was interested in Hughes, but they insist no talks have taken place.”
Under Hughes’ leadership, Liverpool broke their transfer record twice last summer, including splashing out £125 million on striker Alexander Isak.
Despite the unprecedented spending, the Anfield side have endured a disappointing campaign so far, as they sit 21 points below league leaders Arsenal with eight games remaining.
As a result, manager Arne Slot’s future has been a talking point all campaign long, with former Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso seen as his potential successor.
Liverpool ‘Planning’ Arne Slot Talks
Liverpool appear to be heading for another busy offseason, one that could seal Slot’s fate at the club.
According to reports, the Anfield side are planning talks with the Dutch manager in the summer, and he is expected to face scrutiny after a disappointing season.
FSG are believed to have identified Alonso as a ‘perfect’ replacement, with the Spanish manager available to join following his sacking at Real Madrid earlier this season.
Hughes’ Three Best Liverpool Signings Named
Amid emerging reports over Hughes’ future, we asked ChatGPT to name the three best Liverpool sporting director’s signings during his two years at Anfield:
- Alexander Isak – Signed in September 2025 for a British‑record fee of around £125 million, Isak quickly became a key attacking option, scoring and creating goals in both domestic and European competitions.
- Florian Wirtz – Arriving in June 2025 in a club‑record transfer (around £116 million), the creative midfielder has added goals and assists, helping to link Liverpool’s forward play and adding quality in the attacking third.
- Hugo Ekitike – Signed in the same summer window for around £79 million, Ekitike has impressed with his goal output and movement as a forward, offering an important alternative attacking threat.

Liverpool Chiefs Submit Important Offer to Sign Yan Diomande
Liverpool are preparing some huge moves in the summer transfer window, as Fabrizio Romano outlines the “important money” offer the Reds have prepared for one transfer target.
It comes as the club are looking to push on after a difficult Premier League campaign, which saw the team move from entering the season as champions to ending up with a disappointing fifth-placed finish.
The past 12 months showed plenty of areas for improvement, with Arne Slot losing his job after, while other previously key players have now moved on.
Now, the task for Liverpool is to improve under Andoni Iraola, with the forward areas coming under particular focus, particularly with the exit of Mohamed Salah.
Plenty of stars have been linked, but one deal that is being lined up has the potential to be the signing of the summer.
Liverpool’s Yan Diomande Offer
Liverpool have been tracking Yan Diomande for the past year or so, with the winger catching the eye ever since he made the move to RB Leipzig.
The forward has been described as “outrageous”, and for good reason too, having seemingly burst onto the scene at the age of just 19.
There is competition for the Ivorian international, as Paris Saint-Germain have arrived on the scene, but only in the event of some moves elsewhere in the squad.
That could give Liverpool the edge in this transfer saga, as Fabrizio Romano explains the money the Reds are willing to offer for the winger this summer.
On the latest Here We Go Podcast, he said: “Yan Diomande is one of the most exciting and electrifying wingers on the market. Now, it’s difficult to find players who can be young, talented, [good with the] one-v-one, fast, score, deliver assists, it’s very difficult.
“He’s wanted by Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain. Both clubs are still in the mix. Liverpool are really pushing, Liverpool are really insisting to make it happen.
“For Liverpool, he’s a top, top priority. They are offering important money to the player to get it done.
“On the other side, Paris Saint-Germain are also keen but it depends on what happens with Barcola, with Goncalo Ramos and Kang-in Lee. There are players that have to leave at PSG, while at Liverpool they’ve already made space with Mo Salah leaving and more players.”
It comes as quite the potential boost to Liverpool in their pursuit of Diomande, with the finance seemingly there to help push for the winger in the market.
It remains to be seen whether he will agree to make the move, but it’s one that has plenty of potential to be exciting.

Diomande Signing Potential
The signing of Diomande has the potential to be the signing of the summer, if Liverpool are able to pull the deal off that is.
The winger has already shown a burst of electric pace and trickery, along with end product that is desperately needed after a disappointing campaign at the top of the pitch for the Reds.
If he can add those immediately to the team, then it will already be a great signing, but that is only underlined further by the fact he is only 19 years old.
Deal Off: Liverpool Move to Sign ‘Exciting’ Star Collapses
Liverpool have been linked with a move for a wonderkid in the transfer window, but it seems as though a deal has fallen through.
Diomande can grow and progress even further, which may be a scary prospect for fellow Premier League teams, who may regret not making a move for him themselves.
Having a young star with the quality of an experienced superstar on the right, combined with a similar profile in Rio Ngumoha on the left, and Liverpool could have a scary attack for the coming years.

Club Open To Tottenham Player Sale For £26M After Contact Made
Tottenham have been handed a boost in their pursuit of one transfer target, but could face a battle to land him over their rivals in the coming weeks in the market.
It’s part of a busy summer for Spurs, as Roberto De Zerbi and the recruitment team have already shifted focus towards rebuilding the squad to avoid a repeat of the consecutive 17th-placed finishes the club have suffered from.
Two deals have already been sealed in the backline, while moves are also being made to sign Savinho and Jan Paul van Hecke in swift fashion.
Other targets are in mind too, with an open race to land a particular forward.
Antonio Vergara Transfer Battle
Tottenham have been linked with a move for Napoli forward Antonio Vergara, as CalcioNapoli24 claims that the club are monitoring a move for the 23-year-old.
Spurs aren’t the only team in the mix, as Como are also eyeing a move as they look to add more homegrown talent to their squad ahead of their move into the Champions League next season.
It’s claimed that the Serie A side have already made contact for the 23-year-old, as the two teams position themselves for a possible deal in the market.
Napoli are believed to be open for a switch in the region of £26 million, which could prove to be a bargain, if Tottenham are able to agree a switch.
It remains to be seen whether De Zerbi’s side will formalise their interest, as Como appear to be pushing ahead with their own move for the forward.

How Good Is Antonio Vergara?
A move for Vergara could add more attacking depth to the Tottenham forward line, but there are question marks over how well he would adjust to the Premier League.
The 23-year-old can play as both an attacking midfielder and as a right-winger, but he has often been used as a squad player since returning to Napoli from a loan spell at Reggiana.
Last season, Vergara made 19 appearances across all competitions, scoring three goals and assisting four times, with just under 1,000 minutes to his name.
Tottenham Could Sanction ‘Absolutely Insane’ Transfer This Summer
One of Spurs’ rising stars has been tipped to leave the club this summer
The former Italy youth international saw his season interrupted by injuries, which certainly didn’t help his case to be a regular starter under Antonio Conte.
At 23, there is room to grow further, but it’s unclear whether Tottenham can take such a risk when they have a squad filled with potential but a lack of quality for the here and now.

Man Utd Chiefs Now Confident They Will Sign Elliot Anderson
Manchester United are optimistic they will beat their rivals to a key signing this summer, according to The Guardian, as the next phase of the squad rebuild moves into effect.
For Michael Carrick, the summer offers a chance to reflect on a successful stint so far, having returned the Red Devils to the Champions League, before pushing on and finding areas to improve upon.
The recruitment team are already putting plans into place for some key additions to the squad, with the midfield being the main area of focus so far.
Ederson is set to join the club from Atalanta, as Manchester United have agreed the terms of a move and are moving closer to the deal being finalised.
The midfield interest doesn’t stop there, however, as the Red Devils continue to monitor other options, which includes a potential move for Elliot Anderson.
Elliot Anderson To Man United Latest
Anderson appears to be one of the most-wanted stars in the Premier League this summer, after the Nottingham Forest midfielder has shown his class for both club and country – leading to rave reviews and an “elite” description of his performances.
A move appears awkward for a few clubs, after Forest placed a price tag in the region of £100 million on the star, as they brace for interest elsewhere.
Manchester City have already made an offer, which has been rebuffed, as it seemed as though everything was moving towards Anderson joining them.
However, it appears as though there could be a twist in the tale, as the Guardian claims that the Manchester United executives are optimistic that a deal for the midfielder can still be completed.
As it stands, Man City seemingly remain the favourites, but there is belief that the Red Devils will be able to convince the England international that they are the right destination for him.
Perhaps even more importantly, the report claims that Sir Jim Ratcliffe is willing to fund the wage demands of the 23-year-old in the summer window.
It all comes down to whether United can fully convince Anderson that Old Trafford is the ideal destination, even if the project still needs time to build.

Anderson Is Perfect For Man Utd
As Man United look to improve their midfield ranks, a move for Anderson would appear perfect to help try and set the club up for the short-term and long-term future.
The England star is a generalist, someone who is good at a bit of everything, which is the exact profile that could take the Red Devils to the next level.
The 23-year-old is comfortable evading pressure when building up from deep, has the creative instinct and vision around the box in the final third, and has an engine that allows him to put in a shift when out of possession.
Manchester United Make Decision Signing ‘Best Defender In The World’
Man Utd have been linked with a move for Tottenham star Cristian Romero
Much like how Declan Rice helped transform Arsenal, Anderson could end up doing the same for Man United, giving a player who platforms everyone else.
It will be costly, but it could accelerate the project at Old Trafford by a few years.
