World Open Snooker 2026 Salaries For Uh-Nooh and O’Sullivan and Trump
Snooker icon Ronnie O’Sullivan missed out on the opportunity to lift one of the few trophies that have eluded him in his sparkling career on Sunday when he lost in the final of the 2026 World Open to Thailand’s Thepchaiya Un-Nooh – missing out on a large chunk of prize money in the process.
The tournament has gone under various names over the years and was previously known as both the Grand Prix and the LG Cup, before changing its name to the World Open in 2010. Throughout its history, though, O’Sullivan has never won it.
Judging by his form heading into the final at the Yushan Sports Centre, ‘The Rocket’ looked primed to finally break his World Open duck. The 50-year-old made snooker history during his 5-0 demolition of Ryan Day in the quarter-finals, hitting a break of 153 in the process to set a new world record for the highest break ever in professional snooker.
O’Sullivan was made to work harder in the semi-finals, as he overcame China’s Wu Zise 6-5. Having made it to the final against Un-Nooh, Ronnie got off to a flying start, racing into a 4-0 lead in what was a race to 10 frames.
Brilliant Un-Nooh Outlasts O’Sullivan in Epic World Open Final
However, just as he looked well on his way to claiming a 42nd ranking title, Un-Nooh flipped the script, reeling off six straight frames to take an unexpected lead.
To his credit, O’Sullivan fired back by winning the next three frames to take a 7-6 lead, recording three straight century breaks (114, 102 and 136). Incredibly, though, Un-Nooh matched O’Sullivan with three century breaks of his own as he won the next four frames to seal an impressive victory.
World Open Snooker 2026 Prize Money
The 40-year-old became just the second Thai player to win a full-format ranking event, following in the footsteps of compatriot James Wattana. Un-Nooh banked £175,000 for his win, while O’Sullivan earned £80,000 (£75,000 prize money, plus £5,000 for the highest break of the tournament).
While O’Sullivan will have been disappointed to have missed out on the trophy, he can at least console himself with both his earnings and the quality of his performances across the tournament.
This was not the case for several other big names. Last year’s winner, John Higgins, was dumped out in the last 64. The four-time world champion (and number one seed) lost 5-4 to Stan Moody, banking just £5,000 as a result.
The last 32 of the competition also saw exits for several other seeds. 17th seed Stuart Bingham lost 5-4 to eventual semi-finalist Wu Zise, while 22nd seed Jack Lisowski went down 5-1 to Mark Allen. The biggest shock of the round, however, saw sixth seed Mark Williams beaten 5-2 by Iran’s Hossein Vafaei. Every losing player at this stage received £9,000 in prize money.
The last 16 saw second seed Zhao Xingtong exit the competition. The 2025 World Championship winner picked up just £14,000 after losing 5-2 to Gary Wilson.
Despite being thoroughly outplayed by O’Sullivan in their quarter-final meeting, Ryan Day banked £22,000, as did Wilson after being defeated at the same stage by eventual victor Un-Nooh.
In the semi-finals, Judd Trump and Wu Zise walked away with £33,000 after losing to Un-Nooh (6-4) and O’Sullivan (6-5), respectively.

When is Snooker’s Next Major Tournament?
We are now less than a month away from the 2026 World Snooker Championship at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, with a massive £500,000 prize going to the winner. Judd Trump is currently the favourite for the tournament, but both O’Sullivan and last year’s winner Xingtong are also well fancied for glory.

Arsenal Confident of Signing Athletic Club Winger Nico Williams
Arsenal are now confident of securing a deal to sign a new forward ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Gunners will be looking to build on a phenomenal 2025/2026 season, which saw them lift the Premier League title after years of heartbreak.
Arsenal also reached the Champions League final, but were knocked out by Paris Saint-Germain on penalties.
The summer transfer window is an opportunity for the north London club to build on what they’ve already achieved, and Mikel Arteta will undoubtedly be hoping to go one better in the Champions League.
Adding to their forward line could be one of Arsenal’s priorities, especially if they want to compete among the best in Europe.

Arsenal are in the race to sign Julian Alvarez, and could steal a march over their rivals Barcelona and Real Madrid for the striker.
Arsenal Confident of Signing Forward
According to a report from TEAMtalk, Arsenal are confident they can sign Athletic Club winger Nico Williams during the summer transfer window.
Williams is believed to be keen on a move to the Premier League, with the Gunners firmly in the hunt to secure his signature.
Arsenal have been admirers of Williams since 2024, and they’ve been given fresh hope of signing him in the coming months, as he aims to use the World Cup to platform himself.
Williams is considered Arteta’s ‘dream’ signing for the upcoming window, but it remains to be seen whether they can convince Athletic Club to part ways.

Williams Could be Game-Changer for Arsenal
Securing the signature of Williams from Athletic Club in the summer transfer window could be a game-changing move from the Gunners.
Williams, who has been described as ‘absolutely frightening’, reportedly has a release clause of around £87 million, which you’d expect Arsenal would be willing to pay for a guaranteed starter at left wing.
The Gunners may be hoping to negotiate that fee down with Athletic Club, but either way, it’s a player Arsenal need to go all out for.
Arteta doesn’t have an elite-level left-sided attacker in his squad, and Williams certainly has the potential to reach the top.

Man Utd Working on Two Midfield Signings After Elliot Anderson Bid
Manchester United are focusing on deals for two Premier League midfielders following the news that Manchester City’s £120m bid for Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson has been rejected, according to David Ornstein.
Man United had identified Anderson as their number one midfield target earlier this summer, as they looked to bolster a position that will be short of depth ahead of the expected summer exits of both Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte.
Kobbie Mainoo, and new signing Ederson, are the only specialist senior central midfielders in the squad should Ugarte leave, even though Mason Mount and Bruno Fernandes have been used in deeper midfield roles in recent months.
Some reports have suggested that the Red Devils could look to add three new midfielders to Michael Carrick’s squad during the close season, which would mean there are two more arrivals after Ederson.
While United have had a focus on Premier League midfield targets, the issue is that they come at a premium price, whether it is Carlos Baleba of Brighton and Hove Albion or Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali.
Anderson appears to be a step above even that after Forest decided to reject a bid worth a total of £120m for the England international from City, instead wanting more than that fee upfront if they are to even consider a sale.
Man United Focusing on Alex Scott and Mateus Fernandes
Posting on X on Wednesday night, Ornstein confirmed that City’s bid worth £106m, plus £14m in add-ons, had been rejected by Forest.
Ornstein claims that the Midlands outfit want more than the British transfer record fee of £125m that Liverpool paid to sign Alexander Isak last summer.
Despite United’s great admiration for the player, the journalist claims that the fee demanded for the England star means that they are currently out of the race for the 23-year-old.
Instead, the Red Devils are focusing on players who want to join them, including West Ham United’s Mateus Fernandes and Alex Scott of Bournemouth.
Fabrizio Romano has claimed that the Hammers value Fernandes at £85m, while Bournemouth are reported to want £80m to consider selling Scott.

Which Other Midfielders Are On United’s List?
As mentioned previously, two Premier League-based midfielders in Baleba and Tonali continue to be linked, with the former fitting into the category of players who want to make the switch to Old Trafford.
An agreement on personal terms dating back to last summer is already in place for Baleba to join United, and now it is up to the Red Devils whether they reignite their interest from 2025 in the Seagulls star.
United are still considering midfielders playing abroad too after the Ederson deal, with Romano revealing previously that Real Madrid star Aurelien Tchouameni is the club’s ‘dream’ Casemiro replacement.
The France international’s future at the Bernabeu looked to be in doubt following his huge bust-up with Federico Valverde in training last month, but the latest suggestions are that Real want to keep him at the club.

Liverpool Ready To Sell Curtis Jones
As Liverpool prepare for a busy summer transfer window, there is a growing expectation that some key stars could leave the club in favour of new signings.
The squad shake-up has already begun, with Andy Robetson and Mohamed Salah among the important players who have already left, while Ibrahima Konate turned down a contract extension and looks set to join Real Madrid as a free agent.
There could be others within the Liverpool ranks who could fetch a decent fee, which will help the Reds reinvest them in several areas across the team for new boss Andoni Iraola.
Harvey Elliott and Federico Chiesa are among the potential exits, alongside Curtis Jones who could leave as he enters the final year of his contract.
Recent reports have stated that Liverpool are in talks with Inter Milan over a move, but it’s a switch that could prove to be a mistake from the Merseyside club.
Curtis Jones Transfer Mistake
Jones appears to be nearing a potential exit from Liverpool, which makes sense when you consider the fact that he is entering the final year of his deal and the club may wish to reinvest any funds raised into the squad elsewhere.
However, it could prove to be a mistake for several reasons, the main one being the current state of the midfield market in comparison to offering a new deal.
Current target Alex Scott is said to be valued at £80 million if he is to leave Bournemouth this summer, while that remains on the lower end of the current scale.
Other options, such as Adam Wharton, Sandro Tonali and Elliot Anderson, have been quoted in the £100 million range, a fee that is at the extreme ends of the transfer landscape.
However, it goes to show how difficult it would be to invest wisely in a replacement, as well as how valuable these players are currently viewed as in the market.
Jones is a very capable player in his own right, finding it easy to evade pressure when building up from the back and capable of circulating play when needed.
At 25 years old, the academy graduate is still not at his peak, even though he has already been described as “incredible” during his time playing for the England national team.
He also has the potential to improve and become better, while he knows exactly what it means to be a Liverpool player having grown up around the club.
A mixture of those market factors and the quality of Jones shows that it would be a no-brainer to offer a new contract to the star, even if that comes with the promise of more game time.
However, as it appears, things seem to be moving towards a potential sale, which would be a mistake for all the reasons listed above.

Liverpool Contract Problems
The contract situation that could lead to an exit for Jones underlines an ongoing issue Liverpool have faced in recent seasons surrounding the management of the squad.
The Reds have consistently failed to be proactive when it comes to the deals players are on, partially due to some of the chaos off the pitch that has come with the changing of sporting directors and managers.
Key stars in the peak of their career have moved on for free in the form of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ibrahima Konate, while the likes of Virgil van Djik and Mohamed Salah have been allowed to run their own deals into the final year in the last 12 months or so.
Liverpool Set to Complete Signing of ‘Elite’ Man City Talent, He Wants to Join
Liverpool are closing in on a deal to sign the midfielder at the end of this month
The latest challenge will be to think ahead beyond 2027, when contracts for Jones, Alisson Becker, and Van Dijk are set to expire, to get on top of the issues that are present.
Liverpool have already lost out because of those contract problems, and they could miss out again if Jones is forced to leave.
