Paul Scholes Names 9 Players Man Utd Should Sell This Summer

Published

on

Paul Scholes has named nine players Manchester United should consider selling this summer.

No stranger to making headlines with his comments as a pundit since hanging up his boots in 2013, midfield legend Scholes has raised eyebrows on the latest episode of his podcast, ‘The Good, The Bad & The Football’, with some of his ‘sell’ suggestions.

United have endured a topsy-turvy season but the improvement – in terms of performance levels and results – has been remarkable since Michael Carrick replaced Ruben Amorim in January.

The Red Devils currently sit third in the Premier League table with seven matches remaining, leaving themselves with an excellent opportunity of securing Champions League football for the 2026-27 campaign.

The Premier League table could look very different in some key areas by the time May rolls around.

Scholes Names Players Man Utd Should Axe

Despite that, Scholes says there are a host of players the club should axe this summer in order for the team to kick on and seriously challenge for silverware. These are the players Scholes thinks United should sell…

Noussair Mazraoui

The former Bayern Munich defender has impressed at times since joining Man Utd in 2024, but Scholes believes Amorim’s departure leaves the Morocco international surplus to requirements at Old Trafford.

He said: “Sell. I don’t know where he fits in. He’s been like a right-sided centre-half and they don’t play with three centre-halves anymore. if there’s three centre-halves then you’d probably have him as one of five or six but I think it’s probably time to let him go now.”

Harry Maguire

Harry Maguire deserves immense credit for the way he’s bounced back from fierce criticism and losing the United captaincy. However, Scholes would rather the club keep Matthijs de Ligt instead.

Per Football365, he said: “Look, I think he’s been really good and he’s brought himself back from the dead really. I think he’s been sensational with what he’s done, I’m so so pleased for him, but I’m thinking about a Manchester United team you want to win the league and the Champions League and that’s where United should be aiming. I’m not sure you’d do that with Maguire, unless you’ve got someone like a Rio [Ferdinand] next to him then possibly, yeah.

“It’s Manchester United, you’ve got to be talking about winning the Premier League. If it’s one of four, you’d probably take him but I’d have De Ligt in that as one of four. I think they’re both quite similar but De Ligt is a little bit younger so that’s on his side, he’s a little bit quicker, so I’d probably just go for De Ligt.”

Patrick Dorgu

A surprising pick to some, considering how well he performed in a couple of games before his injury in January, Dorgu would also be moved on if Scholes was calling the shots.

The former England international said: “They brought him in as a wing-back and he’s not really played much there. I’d probably sell. I’m not sure what position he is. Again, if you keep him then he’s just a squad player.”

Leny Yoro

leny yoro

Leny Yoro is only 20 years old and is widely regarded as one of world football’s best young players, but Scholes isn’t convinced the France Under-21 international is good enough.

He said: “I think he’s struggled, me. I think there’s something in there, I think he needs a bit of time, but if you had to make a choice now, I’d probably sell him.”

Luke Shaw

Man Utd’s longest-serving player, Luke Shaw has struggled with injuries throughout his spell at Old Trafford. Scholes thinks this summer is the right time for the 30-year-old full-back to move on.

He said: “When he was playing consistently, I don’t think there was a better left-back in the world, not just Europe. But if you’re asking me now, and he’s done alright appearance-wise this year, but I’d sell him. He doesn’t play enough games.”

Mason Mount

Another player who has struggled with injuries and fitness since joining United, Scholes thinks the club should cash in on Mason Mount.

He said: “I’d probably sell him and I like him, he’s a great footballer. But he’s never going to play in front of Bruno Fernandes. I’m not sure what other position he could play and he doesn’t play enough games.”

Casemiro

United fans have been chanting for Casemiro to get “one more year” in recent weeks at Old Trafford, but Scholes thinks the Brazilian has made the right decision to leave.

He said: “Yeah, I think it’s right [he’s going]. I think he’s turned his fortunes around, he’s been very good, but United need strengthening in that position massively.”

Manuel Ugarte

Manuel Ugarte has his strengths but many United fans remain unconvinced about his technical qualities. “I think he’ll go,” Scholes added.

Joshua Zirkzee

Scholes would keep Matheus Cunha, Amad Diallo, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko but would sell Joshua Zirkzee, who has only managed to score nine goals in 69 appearances since his move from Bologna in 2024.

Newcastle Make Contact For ‘Top Player’ After New Scouting Mission

Published

By

Newcastle United have made contact for an up-and-coming winger, according to The Athletic, as the Magpies look to refresh their squad heading into next season.

Eddie Howe‘s side face a tough summer transfer window, following a disappointing campaign in the Premier League, with key players set to leave the club in the coming weeks.

That process has already begun, with Anthony Gordon joining Barcelona, while links persist over the likes of Sandro Tonali, Lewis Hall, and Tino Livramento.

Those stars will need to be replaced, likely at a lower cost, with players who are capable of improving over time to get Newcastle back to the top.

With that in mind, contact has been made over one transfer target.

Newcastle Want Anan Khalaili

Anan Khalaili

According to a report from The Athletic, Newcastle have expressed interest with Union Saint-Gilloise over a possible move to sign 21-year-old winger Anan Khalaili.

It’s claimed that the Magpies are one of several teams eyeing a deal for the up-and-coming forward, as Tottenham, Bournemouth, and Napoli have also made it clear they have an interest.

There hasn’t been a concrete offer made yet, with Khalaili’s contract running until 2028 with the option of another year included in his deal with the Belgian side.

The 21-year-old has been at USG since 2024, after signing from Maccabi Haifa, where he has since progressed to become a regular starter for his club with 99 appearances to his name.

In the past season, Khalaili has made 52 appearances with six goals and six assists, with three of those finishes coming in the Champions League this campaign.

The winger’s quality has caught the eye, particularly in the European competition, having been described as a “top player” who is capable in one-on-one situations, as well as having quality with his crossing.

It may be exactly what Newcastle need out of a new recruit, but the club won’t stop there in their pursuit of new signings.

Newcastle’s Winger Transfers

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe looks on glumly

Newcastle will have several different areas to consider in the market, but forward options will be at the top of the list, following a downturn in scoring last season.

The Magpies hadn’t quite managed to replace the output of Alexander Isak, which may only be further hindered by the recent sale of Gordon to Barcelona.

Wingers will be on the mind as a result, with Khalaili not the only player that appears to be on the club’s radar heading into the summer window.

Newcastle Eyeing Move to Hijack Everton Deal to Sign ‘Amazing’ Forward

Newcastle are plotting a hijack.

Victor Munoz has been linked with a move to Newcastle, with claims that he is viewed as the perfect Gordon replacement, while the report from The Athletic claims that Koln star Said El Mala and Hoffenheim ace Bazoumana Toure have also been scouted extensively.

All of them have great potential, but it remains to be seen who will be identified as the ideal option to bring success now, and in the future.

Tottenham Must Fix Transfer Mistake After Reviving Gibbs-White Interest

Published

on

By

Tottenham’s hierarchy may have plenty of regrets over the transfer business of the past, but perhaps none are quite as scarring as last summer’s market and the damage it has done.

Spurs were made to look weak at times last year, as targets came and went, with rivals left and right snapping them up instead of the Lilywhites.

In the end, very few of the arrivals in that market made the impact that many would’ve hoped for, as Tottenham narrowly avoided an embarrassing relegation from the Premier League.

After a clear warning shot from last campaign’s dismal performance, work is already being done to improve the team, erasing the ghosts of transfer windows past.

Plenty of the deals being conducted are with a view to the future, but perhaps the club would do well to look back at last year’s window to push for one star they missed out on.

Tottenham Revive Morgan Gibbs-White Interest

Morgan Gibbs-White

Last year, Tottenham missed out on a few players, one of them being Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White, after a long pursuit of the playmaker.

The England international had a £60m release clause in his deal, but his side decided to offer a new contract that would keep him at the City Ground until 2028.

Tottenham quickly moved on, with a move for Eberechi Eze falling through, before the Lilywhites eventually landed Xavi Simons for the role instead.

It hasn’t quite worked out for the Dutchman, who struggled to match the pace and physicality of the Premier League, even though there were signs that he has the quality to take control of a game.

A serious knee injury looks set to rule Simons out for a while, as Dejan Kulusevski’s condition remains unknown, Mohamed Kudus has battled injury issues, and James Maddison has only just returned from a long lay-off of his own.

With that in mind, SportsBoom reports that Tottenham are back in for Gibbs-White once again, following another impressive campaign with Nottingham Forest.

Spurs aren’t the only team in the mix, however, as Aston Villa, Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal and PSG have all been listed with interest.

It’s no surprise, given the campaign Gibbs-White enjoyed, with his manager Vitor Pereira describing the star as “special” with his displays for the team.

That creates a potentially tough environment for Tottenham to operate in, especially as all their rivals have the advantage of being in Europe next season.

However, it also represents a chance to fix a mistake from last summer.

Tottenham’s Premier League Mistake

Roberto De Zerbi looks on

Tottenham made several mistakes last summer, one of them was not being able to convince Gibbs-White to make the move from Nottingham Forest.

The other is the lack of Premier League experience they brought in, which translates to stars being unable to adjust to the demands of the league as quickly.

In signing within the division, there is almost a guarantee of a base level quality that the star will bring, which was the strategy Manchester United followed when they signed Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.

The only signings made like that last summer were Joao Palhinha and Kudus. That blueprint is now one that Tottenham are following closely, with Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson adding that experience of the division, while pursuits are ongoing for Jan Paul van Hecke and Savinho.

Tottenham continue to look through the market for potential forward targets, with one star now on the radar

Throwing Gibbs-White into the mix would not only fix the error of missing out on the star, who showed his worth with the individual displays for Forest, but it will add that proven ability to the team.

Spurs must add that extra quality, especially in the midfield, to get the team moving in the right direction once again, and that starts with throwing everything at landing the Nottingham Forest star.

Liverpool Chiefs Submit Important Offer to Sign Yan Diomande

Published

Liverpool are preparing some huge moves in the summer transfer window, as Fabrizio Romano outlines the “important money” offer the Reds have prepared for one transfer target.

It comes as the club are looking to push on after a difficult Premier League campaign, which saw the team move from entering the season as champions to ending up with a disappointing fifth-placed finish.

The past 12 months showed plenty of areas for improvement, with Arne Slot losing his job after, while other previously key players have now moved on.

Now, the task for Liverpool is to improve under Andoni Iraola, with the forward areas coming under particular focus, particularly with the exit of Mohamed Salah.

Plenty of stars have been linked, but one deal that is being lined up has the potential to be the signing of the summer.

Liverpool’s Yan Diomande Offer

Yan Diomande

Liverpool have been tracking Yan Diomande for the past year or so, with the winger catching the eye ever since he made the move to RB Leipzig.

The forward has been described as “outrageous”, and for good reason too, having seemingly burst onto the scene at the age of just 19.

There is competition for the Ivorian international, as Paris Saint-Germain have arrived on the scene, but only in the event of some moves elsewhere in the squad.

That could give Liverpool the edge in this transfer saga, as Fabrizio Romano explains the money the Reds are willing to offer for the winger this summer.

On the latest Here We Go Podcast, he said: “Yan Diomande is one of the most exciting and electrifying wingers on the market. Now, it’s difficult to find players who can be young, talented, [good with the] one-v-one, fast, score, deliver assists, it’s very difficult.

“He’s wanted by Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain. Both clubs are still in the mix. Liverpool are really pushing, Liverpool are really insisting to make it happen.

“For Liverpool, he’s a top, top priority. They are offering important money to the player to get it done.

“On the other side, Paris Saint-Germain are also keen but it depends on what happens with Barcola, with Goncalo Ramos and Kang-in Lee. There are players that have to leave at PSG, while at Liverpool they’ve already made space with Mo Salah leaving and more players.”

It comes as quite the potential boost to Liverpool in their pursuit of Diomande, with the finance seemingly there to help push for the winger in the market.

It remains to be seen whether he will agree to make the move, but it’s one that has plenty of potential to be exciting.

Diomande Signing Potential

Yan Diomande

The signing of Diomande has the potential to be the signing of the summer, if Liverpool are able to pull the deal off that is.

The winger has already shown a burst of electric pace and trickery, along with end product that is desperately needed after a disappointing campaign at the top of the pitch for the Reds.

If he can add those immediately to the team, then it will already be a great signing, but that is only underlined further by the fact he is only 19 years old.

Deal Off: Liverpool Move to Sign ‘Exciting’ Star Collapses

Liverpool have been linked with a move for a wonderkid in the transfer window, but it seems as though a deal has fallen through.

Diomande can grow and progress even further, which may be a scary prospect for fellow Premier League teams, who may regret not making a move for him themselves.

Having a young star with the quality of an experienced superstar on the right, combined with a similar profile in Rio Ngumoha on the left, and Liverpool could have a scary attack for the coming years.
