West Brom Will Be Deducted 2-3 Points if Guilty of Breaching P&S Rules

Published

on

West Bromwich Albion are facing a potential points deduction should they be found guilty of breaching profit and sustainability rules.

It was reported on Monday morning by the Telegraph that the Championship strugglers had been charged by the EFL after exceeding the £39m loss limit for the three seasons leading up to the 2024-25 campaign.

On the pitch, West Brom have been going from strength to strength under caretaker boss James Morrison, with the club now seven matches unbeaten after he began his reign with a defeat to relegation rivals Oxford United at the Kassam Stadium.

The Baggies’ latest point came against automatic promotion hopefuls Millwall, which has been a theme of their recent results.

The west Midlands outfit have also drawn with play-off chasing Southampton and Wrexham, while they convincingly beat sixth-placed Hull City 3-0 at the Hawthorns.

Morrison has led Albion to be two points clear of the Championship drop zone, with Portsmouth, Oxford United and Leicester City all below them in the standings with four matches to play.

BBC: West Brom Could Get 2-3 Point Deduction

West Brom chairman Shilen Patel

According to BBC journalist Dale Johnson, posting on X, West Brom face a deduction of 2-3 points should they be found guilty of breaching the rules.

If those sanctions were being handed out now, then it would put the Baggies back into the bottom three in what is a tightly-contested battle for survival at the bottom of the Championship.

In a statement released on Monday afternoon, the club indicated there had been an issue even though they didn’t confirm the charge.

The statement read: ‘West Bromwich Albion acknowledges media reports relating to the club’s compliance with the EFL’s profitability and sustainability (P&S) rules.

‘The club considers that it has fully complied with the P&S rules. The club will continue to co-operate with the EFL’s Club Financial Reporting Unit and looks forward to resolving this matter.

‘It would not be appropriate for the club to comment further at this stage.’

West Brom now have a 14-day period to respond to the allegations, with a hearing needing to be held within 28 days of the issue of the report.

Decision Unlikely Before Season’s End

Josh Maja West Brom

What is bad news for West Brom and the EFL is that, because of the timelines mentioned above, there is unlikely to be any sort of decision before the season wraps up on May 2.

Should the Baggies end up a couple of points above the relegation zone by then, it is likely to cause chaos for the reaction of the teams that do slip into League One.

The original report claimed the breach was ‘small’, with the BBC reporting that a breach of up to £2m usually incurs a three-point penalty.

If it is between £2m-4m, there would be a four-point deduction. However, West Brom’s losses have reduced season on season, meaning they would gain a point back due to the EFL applying mitigation.

Relegated Sheffield Wednesday have been deducted 18 points for entering administration and financial breaches this season.

Leicester City, who sit second bottom, have suffered a six-point deduction for breaching P&S regulations.

Crystal Palace To Enter Formal Talks To Sign Hayden Hackney

Published

Crystal Palace are pushing ahead with their transfer plans for the 2026/27 season despite being without a manager.

Oliver Glasner announced earlier in the campaign that he would be leaving the club when his contract expired this summer.

The former Eintracht Frankfurt boss went out at Selhurst Park on a high by leading the Eagles to the Europa Conference League title, 12 months on from winning the FA Cup.

Palace are now in the process of appointing their next manager with Dino Toppmoller, who was most recently in charge at Frankfurt, and RC Lens boss Pierre Sage, emerging as two key targets.

The Eagles are still getting to work with their recruitment as they wait for their new manager and Middlesbrough star Hayden Hackney has emerged as a target for the London side.

That is according to the Northern Echo, who have also revealed interest from Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Everton.

Red Devils boss Michael Carrick worked with Hackney at Boro, which could give Palace’s Premier League rivals the edge in the race for the player’s signature.

However, Palace are still ‘expected’ to make a formal move for the midfielder.

Hackney, who has been described by his Middlesbrough manager as “unbelievable”, has just 12 months left on his contract at the Riverside Stadium and the north east club are likely going to have to accept a decent offer as several Premier League sides circle.

Nottingham Forest are another top-flight club with an interest in signing the player. Hackney claimed five goals and six assists in 39 Championship appearances last term and Boro will want at least £25million to sanction the player’s exit.

Crystal Palace to try convince Adam Wharton to stay

Adam Wharton

Hackney has been listed as a potential replacement for Eagles midfielder Adam Wharton.

Interest in the former Blackburn Rovers midfielder is likely to gather pace in the coming months. He has been a long-term target for the likes of Man United and Liverpool.

The Eagles are under little pressure to sell him at this stage as he still has three years remaining on his contract.

Sky Sports News reported last week that Palace would try to convince Wharton to stay at the club for one more year following their Europa Conference League triumph.

The win over Rayo Vallecano in the final in Leipzig means the Eagles have qualified for the Europa League. Palace hope the offer of playing European football will be enough for Wharton to stick around for one more season.

The 22-year-old, who won the Player of the Match in the Conference League final, still has plenty of time on his side if he opted to remain at Selhurst Park for another season.

Gary Lineker Names 3 Teams With the ‘Best Players’

Arsenal came within a penalty shootout of completing one of the most remarkable doubles in English football history.

A Premier League title lifted at Selhurst Park, followed six days later by a Champions League final in Budapest. It was the stuff that dreams are made of, and for at least an hour, it looked entirely possible. Kai Havertz’s early opener had the red half of Budapest daring to believe, before Ousmane Dembele’s equaliser from the penalty spot drew matters level midway through the second half.

It was from the same place that Arsenal suffered their ultimate heartbreak, where misses from Eberechi Eze and Gabriel ultimately ended their hopes of the double.

Gabriel Breaks Silence With Emotional Statement After Missing Arsenal Penalty vs PSG

It’s easy to see why anyone in the Arsenal camp would be emotional, but Gabriel has decided to face it head-on.

Mikel Arteta’s approach to the final made many think whether it was the right way to set up for a Champions League final, and one of the most decorated players in English football history has waded his way into the conversation, with his verdict certain to divide opinion.

gary lineker

Gary Lineker, speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, was generous in his praise of Arsenal’s achievement in reaching the final, but pulled no punches when it came to assessing what the outcome meant for the game as a whole.

In his view, PSG’s victory wasn’t just a win for the French club, it was a win for football itself: “Looking at the game as a fan with no skin in the game, I think Arsenal had to play that way because they wouldn’t have beaten PSG any other way, but at the same time I think football won.”

Lineker was careful to acknowledge the legitimacy of defensive football, but made clear where his sympathies as a neutral lie:

“I know there are all different sort of ways to play and there’s nothing wrong with playing defensively. But at the same time football is entertainment and you want to see teams that are really positive, creative and have the best players and play wonderful football.”

He identified three teams as having reached that level in Europe this season, and Arsenal weren’t among them: “I think this season those three teams have been PSG, Bayern Munich and Barcelona.”

It’s a view that won’t sit well with Arsenal supporters, and many will argue that reaching a Champions League final without losing a single match in the competition until the penalty shootout is itself a mark of footballing excellence.

Mikel Arteta Vows Arsenal Will Learn From Champions League Pain

Mikel Arteta

For his part, Arteta was in no mood to engage with the tactical debate in the immediate aftermath of the final. The Arsenal manager cut a devastated figure in Budapest and chose instead to focus on the raw emotion of the occasion and what it means for the club going forward.

“It is very tough to accept when you are so consistent in the competition all the way to the final and in the end you lose the trophy on penalty kicks.”

“We haven’t done it for 22 years [reached the Champions League final], so imagine the second time in our history that we have done it, and we need to recognise the season we had. But at the moment nobody is going to take the pain away from you. You have to go through the emotions and if you’re in pain, then go through the pain. If you think you could do something else, then learn from it. Reflect on that and show the ambition that we want to have again.”

On PSG, Arteta was noble in defeat: “They are a superb team and I congratulate them. Individual quality they have, the manner they are coached – they are a top, top team.”

Arteta and his squad joined an estimated 1.5 million supporters on the streets of north London for the Premier League title parade, a reminder that for all the heartbreak of Budapest, this is still the most successful season Arsenal have enjoyed in a generation.

Steph Curry Named His Top 5 NBA Players of All Time

Published

By

Even at 38 years old, Stephen Curry continues to rank among the best NBA players on the planet. The Golden State Warriors superstar has already cemented his place in basketball history and is a lock for the Hall of Fame. Looking at everything he has accomplished throughout his career, it’s not difficult to understand why.

Although he has just one Finals MVP award on his resume, there is little debate that Curry was often the most dangerous offensive weapon for the Warriors—especially alongside Kevin Durant during their dominant years. Opposing teams regularly spent countless hours trying to design schemes capable of slowing him down. A two-time scoring champion, Curry also led the NBA in steals in 2016 and is already recognised as one of the greatest point guards ever to play the game.

With a resume as decorated as his, Curry is certainly qualified to weigh in on the debate surrounding the five greatest NBA players of all time. Here is what the Warriors icon had to say.

Steph Curry’s 5 Greatest NBA Players of All Time

Michael Jordan

Michael Jordan

It should come as no surprise that Curry included Michael Jordan in his top five. Viewed by many as basketball’s undisputed GOAT, Jordan enjoyed a legendary career with the Chicago Bulls, capturing six championships and five MVP awards. Only Los Angeles Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has won more MVP trophies, with six to his name.

“He never asked anybody on his team or in the organisation to do anything that he wouldn’t do himself. Set the bar for what work ethic was and that grind. He tried to set the pace with his actions. I’ve always carried that with me as the standard for what I expect from my teammates and people.”

Wilt Chamberlain

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Wilt Chamberlain

Before Curry transformed the franchise, Wilt Chamberlain was widely regarded as the greatest player in Warriors history when the team was still known as the San Francisco Warriors. His dominance was so overwhelming that the NBA introduced multiple rule changes to limit his impact. Chamberlain collected four MVP awards and won championships in both 1967 and 1972.

He led the league in scoring seven times and topped the NBA in rebounding on 11 different occasions. Chamberlain’s presence was felt at both ends of the floor, while his rivalry with Bill Russell and the Boston Celtics remains one of the most iconic in basketball history.

AI Names & Ranks 10 Greatest NBA Players in History

ChatGPT has had its say and has ranked the 10 greatest NBA players of all time.

“I can’t remember how many games he played as a Warrior, and how many I’ve played, but to be anywhere near him in any record book or now be on top, it’s surreal, and it’s wild. Because if you grow up in the game of basketball, and you hear his name, you know it’s something extremely special, no matter what it is.”

Shaquille O’Neal

Shaquille O'Neal Cavaliers

Like Chamberlain, Shaquille O’Neal deserves mention whenever discussions about the most dominant player in NBA history arise. Combining elite size with remarkable athleticism, O’Neal was virtually impossible to contain in his prime, overpowering defenders in the paint and even leaving backboards shattered along the way.

While a championship eluded him with the Orlando Magic, O’Neal became an unstoppable force after joining the Los Angeles Lakers. He earned Finals MVP honours during each of the franchise’s three consecutive championship runs beginning in 2000. Known for elevating his performances in the postseason, O’Neal earns a place in Curry’s all-time top five ahead of legendary centers such as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Hakeem Olajuwon.

LeBron James

Often viewed as the closest challenger to Michael Jordan’s GOAT crown, LeBron James remains among the NBA’s elite players even in 2026—more than 20 years after entering the league. Now starring for the Los Angeles Lakers, James has evolved from a once-in-a-generation athlete into one of basketball’s greatest minds, pairing physical gifts with extraordinary court awareness.

During a conversation involving Curry, James, and Kevin Durant, Curry was asked which trait from the Lakers star he would most like to possess.

Michael Jordan

Michael Jordan Didn’t Hesitate When Naming Greatest Point Guard in NBA History

When asked to name the best point guard in NBA history, Michael Jordan was in no doubt.

“I’m gonna take LeBron’s IQ. Being able to control the tempo and the flow of the game single-handedly is insane.”

Magic Johnson

Magic Johnson

Widely regarded as the greatest point guard in NBA history, Magic Johnson ruled the 1980s with a combination of size, vision, and passing ability unlike anything the league had previously seen. As the driving force behind the Showtime Lakers, Johnson dazzled fans while consistently elevating teammates such as James Worthy and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

A five-time NBA champion, Johnson also captured three MVP awards, including consecutive honours in 1989 and 1990. He led the league in assists four times and showcased his defensive instincts by topping the NBA in steals during both 1981 and 1982. When Curry was asked if Magic deserved to be considered the greatest point guard ever, he offered a humble response.

“Yes. Yes. It’s me and Magic, that’s the conversation? Magic’s resume is ridiculous, so the fact that we’re even having that conversation is a place I never thought I’d be in.”
