Patrice Evra Calls Out Theo Walcott For Comments About Arsenal and Man Utd
Patrice Evra has called out Theo Walcott for his ‘disrespectful’ comments about Arsenal and Manchester United.
Arsenal were flying at the start of the season. At one stage, there were some that started to believe that the Gunners were capable of winning a historic quadruple.
Sky Sports pundit Walcott was one high-profile individual that thought very highly of Mikel Arteta’s side. The Englishman, who played for Arsenal from 2006-2018, thought that they were one of the best teams that English football has seen this century.
Walcott was on punditry duty for Amazon to cover the Champions League clash between Inter Milan and the Gunners in January. Working alongside him was Wayne Rooney.
The former Arsenal forward decided to ask Rooney how this current Arsenal side would compare to Man United’s legendary 2008 team, which Rooney was part of.
He asked: “It’s kind of flipped, would your ’08 team compete – well, you would compete against this team, but how does it compare to your 2008 team, which was probably the best team that I’ve ever played against?”
Rooney dismissed the question as he said his United side would ‘batter them.’
Patrice Evra Savages Theo Walcott
Arsenal have struggled since Walcott’s comments. There’s now a chance that they end the season without a trophy after suffering some poor results.
Following Arsenal’s defeat to Manchester City in the Premier League, which was a huge blow in their quest to become English champions for the first time since 2004, Evra has savaged Walcott for comparing this Gunners team to United’s 2008 side.
When asked by Rio Ferdinand on his podcast what he made of Walcott’s comments, Evra said: “No, I’m leaving. That’s the problem with Arsenal. Now he’s comparing this team with our 2008 team.
“I think he’s a menace for society. He should not be on TV. He’s dangerous for the kids. That’s why I keep saying they are delusional.
“I know I talk with my heart, but they are delusional. This is disrespect. He should never be on TV again when he starts asking questions like that.”
Evra Warns Man Utd to not ‘become like Chelsea’
Evra, considered one of the best left-backs in football history, has also urged United to hire his former teammate Michael Carrick on a permanent basis. He said: “We’ll have to start from zero again. I just feel like we’ll become like Chelsea, every year. And this is not United, we need consistency. Carra is doing miracles!
“I don’t know why they think too much about the future. The present is Carra to get the top four spot. That’s the goal and I think we are in a good direction for that.
“We keep saying experience or whatever. We try with big names, with [Jose] Mourinho, with [Louis] Van Gaal, with Amorim. That’s why, for me, should Carra get the job? This is not the question of the day, of the moment.
“Carra is doing a good job so let’s be behind him and then at the end of the season if he doesn’t qualify the team [for the Champions League] then I will understand if some people say we need a new manager.
“But I don’t know if it will work. Personally I couldn’t believe the first game against [Manchester] City, the way we played, I was like, wow! All the players are passionate. Even if you bring an amazing tactician or big name, it didn’t work in the past.
“Why we don’t have someone from the house? He knows the club, he’s really calm and he’s doing a good job.”

England Friendly vs Costa Rica Has Been Delayed

England‘s friendly match with Costa Rica has been delayed after a weather warning was issued for the area surrounding Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay.
The match, which serves as the Three Lions’ final action until they begin their 2026 World Cup campaign, had been due to kick-off at 9pm UK time on Wednesday evening.
However, a weather warning was issued on the big screen at the stadium, telling supporters to “take shelter” amid heavy storms and flooding to the pitch.
England Confirm Delay to Costa Rica Friendly
The official England Twitter account confirmed the news of the delayed kick-off on social media. A brief statement read:
“Tonight’s game against Costa Rica has been delayed due to weather conditions in Orlando. We will provide further updates as soon as we have them.”
Although no official timeframe was given for when the game is likely to get underway, a report from The Mirror stated that the fixture is still expected to take place this evening.
Extreme weather conditions are known to frequently disrupt US sporting fixtures during the summer months. A total of six matches were halted during last summer’s Club World Cup due to storms.
One game that was hit particularly badly was Chelsea’s round of 16 tie with Benfica, which took more than four-and-a-half hours to complete after it was disrupted due to weather.
With just a week to go until England’s opening Group L game against Croatia in Arlington, Texas, England boss Thomas Tuchel will be hopeful that the weather clears enough for the match to be staged as he looks to finalise preparations for his first tournament in charge.
England were last in action on Saturday, where the side laboured to a 1-0 victory over New Zealand in which few players made a positive impression.
An update from ITV Football indicates that the match will go ahead, with a kick-off time of 22:00pm (UK) now expected. Conditions may be less than ideal, but Tuchel will be grateful for the opportunity to see his side in action.

Donald Trump Issues Statement on US Granting 2026 World Cup Visas
With just hours remaining until the start of the 2026 World Cup, US president Donald Trump has been forced to defend the country’s stance on immigration, which has led to mass anger and confusion among many.
Although Mexico and Canada are also hosting matches, the vast majority of the tournament will take place in the USA. Players, staff and officials have begun to arrive in the US over the last week, leading to to a number of viral incidents.
Most notably, Somali referee Omar Artan, who had been set to take charge of a number of World Cup matches, was denied entry to the country on Monday. Despite having previously been granted a visa, Artan was told he would not be allowed to enter the country due to “vetting concerns”.
It later transpired that the decision was made as Artan shares the same name as a leader of the Al Shabab military group. However, the referee is far from the only figure to encounter resistance when attempting to enter the country.
2026 World Cup Visa Controversies Explored
Earlier this week, footage emerged showing players and staff from the Senegal camp being checked on the tarmac by airport security as they prepared to board a plane from Raleigh, North Carolina to San Antonio, Texas. Fans were enraged at the situation, accusing officials of treating the group “like criminals”.
Supporters themselves have also complained about nonsensical visa rules, with some feeling that they have been “excluded” from the tournament.
Iranian fans, in particular, are fuming. The country recently confirmed that they had had their entire allocation of tickets revoked ahead of the tournament.
Such has been the strength of public feeling about the immigration and visa issues that President Trump was forced to address the issue during a press briefing in the Oval Office on Wednesday.
Asked to respond to concerns that “people are afraid that it’s going to be harder and harder to get visas to come from outside [for the World Cup]”, Trump declared:
“We’re working on it very closely to make sure the right people come into our country.”
Trump had previously claimed: “It’s the most successful World Cup they [Fifa] have ever had,” before touting the number of tickets sold for the tournament.
Fifa President Defends Visa Controversies
In defending the actions of the US, Trump also mentioned how complimentary Fifa president Gianni Infantino had been about the host nation.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Infantino addressed the visa issues:
“It’s not easy when you have 300,000 accredited people, majority of which from outside of the US, to process them to vet them, you don’t know. Unfortunately, our world is a very aggressive world and security goes above everything and you need to respect the decisions which are taken and when I say to chill, I don’t mean to chill and do nothing.
“I mean to trust us, that we are working behind the scenes, we are trying to understand and there are things we can know, things we cannot know, things we are told, not told.
“We always try to make the situation as positive as possible and to find solutions. Sometimes we manage, other times not.
“I think it has already been successful to bring Iran to play in America. I don’t know who would have managed to do that, and of course, everyone here believes it’s the right thing to do but again, we don’t live on the moon; we live on planet earth, and you have to deal with different situations. We try to do our best and I hope we’ll have some good news.”

Liverpool Make Important Offer for Yan Diomande
Liverpool have reportedly made an important offer to sign a new forward in the summer transfer window, and he could explode under new manager Andoni Iraola.
It’s going to be an interesting window for the Reds, with their recruitment team having a lot of work to do ahead of the 2026-2027 season.
Liverpool may need to find replacements for Ibrahima Konate, Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson, who have all left the club on free transfers.
It was a disappointing 2025/2026 campaign from Liverpool, resulting in Arne Slot being relieved of his duties.
The Merseyside club did manage to qualify for the Champions League after finishing in fifth place in the Premier League, so they should have minimal issues attracting new players.
Liverpool are now entering a new era after it was confirmed that Iraola has been appointed as their new manager.

Liverpool Make Important Offer for Forward
According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have made RB Leipzig forward Yan Diomande their top priority for the summer transfer window.
The Reds are believed to be offering ‘important’ money to the tricky winger in order to get a deal over the line.
“He’s wanted by Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain. Both clubs are still in the mix. Liverpool are really pushing, Liverpool are really insisting to make it happen. For Liverpool, he’s a top, top priority. They are offering important money to the player to get it done. On the other side, Paris Saint-Germain are also keen but it depends on what happens with Barcola, with Goncalo Ramos and Kang-in Lee. There are players that have to leave at PSG, while at Liverpool they’ve already made space with Mo Salah leaving and more players.”
Reports have claimed that Leipzig could demand in the region of £130m in order to sell Diomande this summer. It might not be a straightforward deal for Liverpool to do.
Liverpool have already spent significantly in the last year or so, so it’s a big decision they need to make on Diomande.

Diomande Could Explode Under Iraola
Diomande certainly has a big task on his hands if he does make the move to Liverpool in the summer transfer window.
The Leipzig winger will likely be a direct replacement for Salah on the right-hand side of attack. There will be a lot of pressure to replicate what the Egyptian international has produced.
There is every chance that Diomande could explode under new manager Iraola.
The former Bournemouth boss has a knack for developing young talent, something he did superbly during his time with the Cherries.
Iraola likes his sides to be deadly in transition, situations that Diomande will thrive in.
