Police arrest suspected kidnappers, thieves, armed robbers in Oyo
Oyo State Police Command has revealed that it has arrested some suspects in connection with various offences including kidnapping, theft and armed robbery.
The command disclosed this in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade.
The statement said the suspects, identified as Musa Ajibola, Hassan Mohammadu and Umaru Hassan, were arrested at Latayo farm settlement at Ile-Ido.
The statement read, “Following such credible intelligence provided by members of the public, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, promptly directed a coordinated operation which led to the arrest of three suspects Musa Ajibola, Hassan Mohammadu and Umaru Hassan at Latayo Farm Settlement, Ile-Ido, all of whom have been directly linked to the kidnapping and subsequent release of the victim.
“Following credible intelligence received, regarding the criminal activities of one Ibrahim Adebisi who specialises in stealing motorcycles from where they are parked, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, promptly directed a coordinated operation.
“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and further disclosed that he operates by stealing motorcycles from Ilesa in Osun State and transporting them to the Ojoo area of Ibadan for sale.
“Acting on this revelation, the police team proceeded to the Ojoo axis, where one Hussein Haruna ‘M’, aged 23, was apprehended. He also confessed to being a receiver of stolen motorcycles.
“One of the occupants, Imoleayo Ibrahim ‘M’, was stopped and subjected to a search, during which a locally fabricated pistol was recovered from him, leading to his immediate arrest.
“Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed that the firearm was intended for use in robbery operations along the expressway and further disclosed that he works in concert with two accomplices identified as Ibrahim Najeem and Olamilekan who specialize in coordinating and executing such attacks.”

Two Kogi varsity students arrested over killing of Biochemistry undergraduate
Two students of Prince Abubakar Audu University, Ayingba, Kogi State, have been arrested following the killing of a 300-level Biochemistry student, David Ocholi Solomon, on campus.
A statement issued by the university spokesperson, Uredo Omale, affirmed that the suspects were apprehended within two hours of the incident and handed over to security agencies for further investigation and prosecution.
According to the statement, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Salisu Usman Ogbo, conveyed the development to the bereaved family in Lokoja on Saturday during a condolence visit.
Prof. Ogbo said, “The suspects were arrested by the internal security of the university, and they have been handed over to the law enforcement agency for further investigation and prosecution.”
He stated that he received news of the incident while attending the 35th Annual National Conference and Convention of the Nigerian Political Science Association (NPSA) at the University of Ibadan.
“This is deeply painful and distressing, as the news plunged the entire university community into mourning,” he stated.
He further explained that the university was cooperating with security agencies to ensure a thorough investigation and to identify all those involved, stressing that the institution maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards cultism, violence and criminality. He added that security measures within and around the campus had been strengthened, with further reforms expected in the coming days to prevent a recurrence.
Prof. Ogbo also commended Governor Usman Ododo, traditional rulers and security agencies for their support in sustaining peace within the university community.
Responding on behalf of the family, the father of the deceased, Mr Solomon Idachaba, expressed appreciation to the university management for the condolence visit and commended the swift arrest of the suspects, while urging authorities to ensure that justice is served.

Troops eliminate terrorists, rescue three kidnapped victims in Zamfara
Nigeria military of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have neutralised two terrorists, rescued three kidnapped victims and recovered arms and other items during separate operations in Zurmi and Shinkafi Local Government Areas of Zamfara State.
This was made known in a statement by Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division Nigerian Army / Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, on Saturday.
The military disclosed that the operations were carried out on June 12 as part of ongoing efforts to combat banditry and terrorism in the state.
According to the military, troops on a fighting patrol covering Birnin Saba, Yanbuki and Sabon Garin Daudawa in Zurmi LGA engaged a group of terrorists in Yanbuki District. During the exchange of fire, one terrorist was killed.
Items recovered from the scene included rifles, four magazines loaded with ammunition, two motorcycles, seven mobile phones, two MP3 players, a woodland camouflage trouser and an inner vest.
The troops later advanced to Sabon Garin Daudawa, where the terrorists reportedly abandoned their camp and fled before the soldiers arrived. The camp was subsequently cleared and destroyed.
In a separate operation along the Shinkafi-Moriki axis, troops ambushed suspected terrorists, killing one of them. Recovered items included an AK-47 rifle, five magazines, a Baofeng communication radio, two motorcycles and assorted charms.
The military also confirmed the rescue of three kidnapped victims during the operations. The victims are receiving care while efforts are being made to reunite them with their families.
The military reiterated its commitment to restoring peace and security in Zamfara State and the wider North-West region, urging members of the public to continue providing credible information to security agencies.

Female passenger dies as Benue Links bus plunges into stream
A female passenger lost her life in a fated road accident which occurred on the Ogiladzi–Abakwa Road at Ofyanghan, Adi-Etulo of Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State.
According to eyewitness accounts, a Benue Links bus travelling towards Jato-Aka plunged into a stream, leaving one female passenger dead and several others rescued.
The incident reportedly occurred between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at Ofyanghan.
Preliminary information indicates that the bus plunged into a nearby stream under circumstances that remain unclear.
Local sources said several passengers were rescued from the crashed bus.
The public have been advised to contact relatives travelling along the route or seek information from relevant authorities.
As of the time of this report, efforts to reach the spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command, DSP Udeme Edet and officials of the Benue Links Transport Company was not successful.
