Ibadan Summit: Hayatu-Deen pinpoints only way opposition can beat APC, Tinubu
A leading presidential aspirant on the platform of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, has called for a united opposition front as Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on the sidelines of the National Opposition Summit in Ibadan on Saturday, the development economist warned that the scale and complexity of Nigeria’s current challenges require a coordinated and collective response beyond the capacity of any single party or individual.
He stressed that unity among opposition forces is no longer optional, but imperative, if Nigerians are to be presented with a credible and viable alternative.
“Nigeria is at a defining moment,” Hayatu-Deen said. “The deepening insecurity, the crushing cost of living and the steady erosion of democratic space demand a collective response. This is not about personal ambition, it is about national rescue.”
Hayatu-Deen cautioned that continued fragmentation within the opposition would only entrench the status quo and prolong the hardship faced by millions of Nigerians.
He therefore urged political leaders to move beyond rhetoric and demonstrate a genuine commitment to collaboration, sacrifice and shared purpose.
At the summit, the former presidential aspirant held consultations with key opposition leaders, including Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, host of the gathering, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi.
He also engaged with the summit’s conveners, Professor Jerry Gana of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Kashim Imam, signaling growing momentum toward opposition alignment.
Hayatu-Deen further noted that the 2027 elections present a critical opportunity to reset Nigeria’s trajectory, but only if opposition leaders are willing to place national interest above partisan and personal considerations.
“Nigerians are looking for leadership that is empathetic, unifying and capable of delivering real change. That responsibility rests on all of us in the opposition to come together and rise to the occasion,” he added.
Reaffirming his commitment to the ADC, Hayatu-Deen pledged to work with party leaders, stakeholders and like-minded Nigerians to build a broad-based coalition focused on restoring security, stabilising the economy and rebuilding public trust in democratic institutions.

Amaechi lied, he couldn’t vote for Buhari in 2015 because of Wike – Oshiomhole
Contrary to claims by former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, that he made the late Muhammadu Buhari president, the lawmaker representing Edo North Senatorial District, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has said Amaechi did not even vote for Buhari in 2015.
Oshiomhole, who spoke on Sunday in an interview on The Mic On Podcast, said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain could not vote because he was “overwhelmed” by the former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.
According to the lawmaker, Amaechi, who served as the Director-General of Buhari’s campaign, instructed his supporters in Rivers State to boycott the election.
He said, “Amaechi lied that he made Buhari president. Amaechi was not able to vote for Buhari in 2015 because he unwisely directed the people of Rivers State to boycott the polls as he was overwhelmed by the forces of Wike.
“As Director-General of the campaign, he asked his people not to vote.”
Amaechi had, in an interview on Arise TV, claimed that it was he, and not Tinubu, who made Buhari president in 2015.

President Tinubu’s thinking totally different from Buhari – Adams Oshiomhole
Lawmaker representing Edo North Senatorial District, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has claimed that President Bola Tinubu and his predecessor, the late Muhammadu Buhari, both members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), differ significantly in their approach to policymaking.
Oshiomhole, in an interview on The Mic On Podcast on Sunday, criticized the immediate past administration, stating that Tinubu was unable to openly criticize Buhari’s government because he played a key role in bringing him to power.
The lawmaker recalled a statement he made during Tinubu’s presidential campaign in 2022, where he declared that the former Lagos State governor would not run on Buhari’s record.
He said: “I said during Tinubu’s campaign that Asiwaju would not run on the record of Buhari.
“Even though Buhari was still a sitting president then, I said Tinubu would run on his own person and record, not the record of Buhari, because Tinubu was not a player in Buhari’s government.
“Tinubu did not even have the opportunity to nominate anyone into Buhari’s government. President Tinubu has a sophisticated mind. He had to speak as a statesman; he cannot disown his predecessor, but I can do so.”

2027: Obi has no reputation – Oshiomhole dismisses NDC’s chance of winning election
Senator Adams Oshiomhole has the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Peter Obi does not have what it takes to win the 2027 election.
In an interview with Mic On Podcast on Sunday, the lawmaker claimed that Peter Obi lacks reputation, citing his alleged inability to manage and resolve party crisis.
Oshiomhole said the former governor of Anambra State cannot be taken by his own words, pointing out how he (Obi) failed to keep his promise of staying put in the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA.
“Peter Obi has no reputation, you cannot take him by his words. First he said he was not going to leave APGA when Ojukwu handed the party to him and the party produced him as a governor.
“After that Obi joined a party because he wanted to be a vice president but he was defeated, in stead of staying back to strategize, Obi left and went to Labour Party because he doesn’t want to do primaries.
“Labour Party handed over the ticket to him, on a platter of gold. According to him, he got eight million votes. Common sense will prescribe that you manage that platform, invest in it and deal with all eternal challenges, but he wanted where food is ready and left the Labour Party.
“He wanted to ADC and they forcefully took over the leadership of the party but when they said there will be a primary election and because he doesn’t want to go through the first stage of election, he went to join NDC,” Oshiomhole said.
