Clarence Seedorf Makes Arsenal Claim After PSG 5-4 Bayern Munich

Published

Clarence Seedorf made a huge claim about Arsenal after watching Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich play out one of the highest-scoring games in Champions League history on Tuesday evening.

The European giants met at the Parc des Princes for the first leg of their Champions League semi-final tie. The match had the makings of a classic, and it did not disappoint as PSG won 5-4.

Bayern took the lead in the 17th minute when Harry Kane converted from the penalty spot. But PSG came roaring back and held a 5-2 lead with 30 minutes of the match remaining. Bayern scored two unanswered goals in the remaining half-an-hour to set up a mouth-watering second leg at the Allianz Arena.

Arsenal will take on Atletico Madrid in the other semi-final. The Gunners have been mightily impressive in Europe’s premier cup competition and are hoping 2026 is the year they can end their wait for a Champions League title.

After watching the nine-goal thriller at the Parc des Princes, Seedorf is now backing Arsenal to lift the trophy at the Budapest Arena at the end of May.

The Amazon Prime Video pundit, who won the Champions League on four occasions during his playing career, said after the match:

“Ask the goalkeepers if they’re happy. They are not happy, a clean sheet was always sacred for goalkeeper.

“We have seen a team like Arsenal making that difference this year, having so many clean sheets and coming all the way. So if I had to point out one team now, that would be capable to actually bring it home because of that capacity, actually it’s Arsenal.”

He added, per the Standard: “Tell me one sport you can win without a proper defence? I don’t think it exists.

“Looking at the characteristic of the team, Arsenal is capable of doing this. Atletico Madrid are also capable of doing the things I am saying and they have a good attack eventually.

“Probably less in volume, Arsenal have more difficult in scoring goals than these two teams but they just need one because they know how to defend a zero eventually and that can make a difference.”

Thierry Henry Defends Mikel Arteta

Mikel Arteta has been criticised for his style of play, which focuses on defence and is perhaps over-reliant on set-pieces going forward. Thierry Henry has defended the Spaniard, saying that people have to accept the way he sets his team up.

He said, per the Metro: “Atletico lost at The Emirates, I think it was 4-0 in the league phase, which doesn’t tell you a lot but it tells you it’s a game where we created, actually.

“But it will be different. The win, Arsenal against Newcastle, in terms of how we played wasn’t outstanding but it’s way better to go into that game with a win against Newcastle.

“So let’s see what’s going to happen tomorrow. It’s not so much what I want to see, people are expecting or wanting Arsenal to play a certain way now, they didn’t the whole year. Why do you want them now to just go forward and start to create?

“They play a certain way, Mikel Arteta plays a certain way, we’re strong on set-pieces, solid, we don’t create a lot. I would just like to see a win, that will do for me and bring something to The Emirates.

“You have to be pragmatic sometimes. You cannot always be Bayern Munich or Paris Saint-Germain, we play a different way. I think people have to accept the fact that Mikel Arteta goes about the game like that and hopefully we can win.”

Tottenham Want To Sign Liverpool Man Starring At The World Cup

Roberto De Zerbi has already got to work on bolstering his backline at Tottenham, with three new signings already in place, and now he is looking to make changes further up the pitch.

Tottenham want to make a statement signing for the Italian and they have already seen a £75million bid for central midfielder Sandro Tonali knocked back by Newcastle United.

Spurs are also in the hunt for West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes, while even further forward they remain in talks with Manchester City over a move to sign Savinho this summer.

And another name has surfaced as a potential forward signing, with Tottenham linked with a move to sign Cody Gakpo from Liverpool.

The 27-year-old was almost ever-present for Liverpool in the Premier League last season, only missing two matches due to injury and named in the starting XI by Arne Slot for 32 of his 36 appearances. He scored seven goals and delivered five assists for teammates, averaging a goal involvement every third match.

Named by Ronald Koeman in his Netherlands squad for the 2026 World Cup in America, Canada and Mexico, Gakpo has enjoyed a good start to the tournament, scoring twice and laying on an assist in the 5-1 win over Sweden in their second group game.

His future at Anfield is up in the air, with some reports suggesting that the Reds were open to offers for him this summer. Liverpool signed the Dutch forward in the 2023 January transfer window for a fee between £35million and £45million and will look to recoup that and even make a profit on him should they sanction a sale.

He only extended his contract in the north west last summer, understood to be worth £250,000-a-week, and has four years left on his deal, meaning Liverpool hold all the cards when it comes to negotiations over a potential transfer exit.

More good displays at the World Cup will only help the Reds in adding figures to his price tag too.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed there is interest from Spurs in Gakpo, but it may take time to striker a deal, given the situation with the World Cup.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, he said: “There is interest from Tottenham, there are clubs trying to understand if there is a way to strike a deal for Cody Gakpo this summer but as yet Liverpool are yet to give a green light to the exit, they are still very happy with Cody Gakpo.

“This is going to be a moment where Liverpool have to make a decision, I don’t think it’s going to be during the World Cup, I don’t think Gakpo is going to Tottenham today or tomorrow, but for sure there is interest.”

Liverpool Instantly Reject Transfer Offer For ‘Incredible’ Star

Liverpool have turned down an offer from Inter Milan for Curtis Jones, according to Fabrizio Romano, as talks continue over a possible deal for the midfielder.

It comes as the 25-year-old enters the final year under contract at Anfield, with uncertainty persisting over the possibility of a stay at the club.

Andoni Iraola’s arrival means a new look at how Liverpool will play, with an emphasis placed on energy and intensity with his pressing philosophy.

The forward ranks remain the most important to crank up the tempo for the Merseyside outfit, but the midfield could follow shortly after, as links persist over a deal for Alex Scott.

That also means some outgoings, with Jones among those who could be sacrificed to help raise some funds.

As rumours continue over Jones and a possible deal to join Inter Milan, Fabrizio Romano reports that a first offer has been turned down by Liverpool.

He claims that a €25 million (£21.7 million) package was proposed by the Serie A club, but it was instantly rejected by the Reds, with the Nerazzuri needing to consider their position again.

Romano adds that Liverpool value Jones higher than the offer that was made, and unless Inter propose another bid with more money on the table, then a move won’t progress.

It means, as things stand, there is still a waiting game for the Anfield outfit to play, with an exit seemingly on the cards, but not unless they get favourable terms.

While Jones is in the final year of his contract, which will impact his overall valuation, he has been described as “incredible”, and Liverpool will be keen to maximise his value and recoup as much money as possible.

As it stands, it’s unclear what price point Liverpool would be open to a sale for Jones, but an exit is possible due to his current contract situation.

Transfermarkt has the star worth €35 million (£30.4 million), showing the potential gap in valuation between the two sides in negotiations for his signature.

Liverpool Join Rivals In Race For £100k-a-week World Cup Star

Liverpool have entered the race to land a midfielder this summer, and will be joined by some rivals in the hunt for his signature.

That could all change, of course, if a new contract is on the table for the midfielder. As it stands, there is no sense that there will be a new deal.

However, if his place in the team changes, there is always a chance of a U-turn. Liverpool appear in no rush to confirm an exit, and will hold out for a bigger fee, which could take the move in a few different directions.

Alexi Lalas Finally Gets His Revenge on Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Published

Never mind the drama on the pitch, one of the biggest talking points during the opening weeks of the 2026 World Cup has been the on-screen relationship between Alexi Lalas and his fellow FOX Sports pundits Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thierry Henry.

Lalas, who earned 96 caps for the United States between 1991-1998, has been accused of rubbing Zlatan and Henry up the wrong way during the opening stages of this summer’s showpiece international tournament.

The outspoken Lalas shocked both pundits – along with viewers – on day two of the World Cup by describing British presenter James Corden as a “full kit w***er”.

Days later, Henry was left wide-eyed as Zlatan put Lalas in his place following suggestions France were ‘arrogant’ during the first half of their 3-1 win over Senegal.

And a couple of days after that incident, Ibrahimovic replied “who?” when host Rebecca Lowe announced Lalas couldn’t be with them. The former Barcelona and Manchester United star then said to camera: “America, you are welcome”.

However, the trio were reunited on Sunday ahead of the Group H clash between Spain and Saudi Arabia – and one humorous incident has gone viral on social media.

Zlatan turned to presenter Rebecca Lowe, who was wearing a black dress, and burned Lalas by saying: “Rebecca, you’re dressed up like you’re going to a funeral. Alexi is alive, don’t worry.”

But Lalas came back with a response that left Henry in stitches. The former defender said:

“Easy, big guy. You look like you should be welcoming people to Fantasy Island. Look at you.”

As the joke finally sank in, Henry turned to Zlatan and echoed “Fantasy Island” before clapping his hands and laughing. Lalas then said: “I got him to laugh! There we go.” Watch the viral clip below:

Fantasy Island is an old television series, aired in the USA during the late 1970s and early 1980s. It featured two main characters, Mr. Roarke and Tattoo, wearing white suits.

“Lalas cooked with that reference,” one person wrote on X (Twitter), while another commented: “Damn, Lalas was quick.”

It seems Lalas may have won over some football fans with his quick-witted response to Zlatan.

The pundits watched on as Spain, one of the pre-tournament favourites, recorded an emphatic 4-0 win over Saudi Arabia at the Atlanta Stadium.

They then watched Belgium play out a goalless draw against Iran at the Los Angeles Stadium.

“The first half, I almost fell asleep,” Zlatan said about the Group G fixture, before adding: “Second half, I fell asleep.”
