Major Twist Emerges on Micky Van de Ven’s Future at Tottenham

Published

on

A twist has emerged over the future of Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven ahead of the summer transfer window, according to GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Ben Jacobs.

Tottenham have boosted their chances of staying in the Premier League in recent weeks under Roberto De Zerbi, after taking seven points from the last nine available in the top flight.

Successive away victories against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Aston Villa have dragged Spurs out of the relegation zone, but it still looks to be a head-to-head battle between themselves and West Ham United to see who suffers relegation to the Championship.

Nottingham Forest’s win at Chelsea on Monday means they are now six points clear of the drop zone with three games to go, with Vitor Pereira’s men registering their third straight victory at Stamford Bridge.

Tottenham are one point above their London neighbours, and host Leeds United on Monday night after West Ham welcome title-chasing Arsenal to the London Stadium on Sunday.

The fight could go down to the wire, but the north London outfit are in a much better position than they were even prior to last weekend’s fixtures.

Van de Ven Has Been Linked With Tottenham Exit

TEAMtalk reported last month that Van de Ven had told Tottenham he wanted to leave regardless of relegation, but GMS understands that isn’t the case at all.

Issuing a new update on the future of the Netherlands international, Jacobs told GIVEMESPORT that the 25-year-old is actually ready to commit his future to Spurs if they preserve their Premier League status.

He said: “You have a profile like Micky Van de ven that Spurs really want to fight to keep if they go down. That’s going to be very difficult, but I tell you something, if Tottenham stay up, my information is that Micky Van de Ven is extremely open signing a new deal.

“Now he’s very happy with Roberto De Zerbi as manager, and De Zerbi coming in has enhanced the chances of Tottenham staying up, that Van de Ven signs a new deal, and [Cristian] Romero still goes.”

Reports also emerged this week that Manchester United would be ready to pay £60m to sign Van de Ven in the summer if he was available.

Huge Boost for Tottenham

Many Tottenham supporters would have accepted that it was likely Van de Ven would be on his way if Spurs went down to the Championship, and potentially even if they stayed up, given they will know his desire to be playing Champions League football at this stage of his career.

But it would be a huge boost for De Zerbi and the club if Van de Ven was willing to not only stay next season if Premier League football is on the menu again, but also commit his future to the north London outfit.

Like many of his teammates, the Dutchman hasn’t been at his best for much of the season, but there is no doubting the quality the speedy centre-back has when he is at his best.

Van de Ven has the ability to play a big part in Tottenham’s resurgence under De Zerbi, but first he needs to play his part in helping them remain in the top flight.

Tottenham Want to Sign England Star James Trafford After Tonali and Fernandes

Published

Tottenham Hotspur may have agreed to sign Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali in deals worth £185m, but they’re not done strengthening their squad yet.

The north London club have been incredibly active in the transfer window so far, completing moves to bring in Andy Robertson, Marco Senesi, Martin Dubravka, and Jan Paul van Hecke, while they have agreed to pay £85m for West Ham’s Fernandes and £100m for Newcastle’s Tonali to strengthen their midfield.

But after also agreeing a £50m deal to allow Luka Vuskovic to depart this summer, Roberto De Zerbi is looking at other areas of the pitch that he wants to strengthen, as more exits are anticipated.

According to The Independent’s Miguel Delaney, Tottenham are showing a strong interest in Man City and England goalkeeper James Trafford this summer.

Trafford, who has been described as ‘world-class’, moved to Man City last summer from Burnley but quickly found himself as the number two after the club completed a deal for Gianluigi Donnarumma in the same window. That has left Trafford disappointed, and he is now keen to leave to establish himself as a number one elsewhere.

Tottenham are expecting Guglielmo Vicario to leave permanently during the window, while Antonin Kinsky has signed a new long-term contract with the promise of competing for a place as the number one goalkeeper.

But Spurs are now eyeing a move for the 23-year-old to bring some ‘authority’ to the position, with Dubravka well aware that he has been signed as a back-up option from Burnley.

Trafford and Kinsky would compete for the number one role, with Spurs ready to bring in a new goalkeeper if the right option become available.

Kinsky’s future at the club looked to be dead and buried when Igor Tudor hooked him in the opening minutes of the defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, but he battled back to claim his place in the side for the end-of-season run-in and made some huge saves to keep them in the Premier League.

Now he looks set to be the number one, but it’s no surprise that there are some doubts over whether he is good enough, and Trafford would provide a more than reasonable and safe alternative in his position.

If the fee is reasonable, then bringing in a 6ft 5 goalkeeper who is very good with the ball at his feet too won’t be looked at as a bad thing, and would give the manager real options to choose from.

Alexi Lalas’ Lionel Messi Tweet Goes Viral After Folarin Balogun Red Card

Former United States international Alexi Lalas has posted a tweet, which has since gone viral, involving Argentina’s Lionel Messi after Folarin Balogun was sent off in the USMNT’s 2-0 win over Bosnia-Herzegovina on Wednesday.

Balogun was controversially shown a straight red card, following a VAR review, for a foul on defender Tarik Muharemovic.

A VAR expert has since cast a strong verdict over the decision, explaining why this was “not a red card offence”. It’s also alleged that a VAR protocol was broken with the review that led to Balogun’s dismissal.

USMNT head coach Mauricio Pochettino described the incident as a “normal action in football that happened by accident”. The Argentine added: “It’s never intentional. That is why for me it’s never a red card.”

Pochettino will now be without Balogun, USA’s top scorer at this summer’s World Cup with three goals, for the last 16 clash against Belgium. There’s also a risk that FIFA will choose to extend the forward’s punishment if the USMNT progress further in the tournament.

Outspoken FOX Sports pundit Alexi Lalas, who represented his country on 96 occasions between 1991-1998, posted a tweet with a clip of a similar incident involving Messi during Argentina’s opening World Cup match against Algeria, alongside the caption: “‘Sup”.

Messi escaped punishment for a foul on Algeria defender Aissa Mandi, although some fans and pundits alike were convinced a red card should have been issued to the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner, who currently leads the race for the World Cup Golden Boot award with France’s Kylian Mbappe on six goals.

On Balogun’s red card, Lalas said on FOX Sports: “That is not a red card. I understand that in the moment it looks bad, and when you see it on video it looks bad. But you have to have a feel and understanding of what’s going on. I thought it was a crap call.” He added:

“It should be said that if his name was Messi, as we have seen earlier in the tournament, he would still be on the field and he would still be able to play in Seattle on Monday.”

Taylor Twellman, another former US international, followed suit, asking FIFA why Messi’s foul wasn’t reviewed by VAR.

The reason why Balogun was sent off but Messi was not is because the USMNT star’s challenge was deemed a “serious foul”. Messi’s challenge on Mandi was not perceived in the same way, despite the similarities of the two incidents.

Man Utd Eyeing Move to Sign Lille Star Matias Fernandez-Pardo

Manchester United are not only looking to bolster their midfield options this summer, with a new left-winger also being looked at for the transfer window.

Jadon Sancho has officially left after his contract expired, while Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund have departed permanently, leaving the club short of options in attack for the new season. Marcus Rashford is now an option to return to the first-team fold after Barcelona opted against making his loan permanent, but there are still options being looked at.

One of those is understood to be West Ham star Crysencio Summerville, but the club are also looking at alternatives, including one Ligue 1 sensation.

According to Sky Sports, Lille star Matias Fernandez-Pardo has emerged as a potential target for Man Utd as they look to bolster their forward options.

Fernandez-Pardo, who has been described as ‘one of the most promising forwards in Europe’, enjoyed a fine breakout season in Ligue 1 in the 2025/26 season as he scored eight goals and registered six assists in all competitions.

The 21-year-old is capable of playing on both wings and also as a number ten, and Man Utd have identified the youngster as a potential option to come in and strengthen their forward line, as they prepare to enter the Champions League following their third-placed finish in the Premier League.

While there has been no formal contact or approach yet, United are alert to market opportunities at either left-wing or left-back, with a belief that Patrick Dorgu is capable of playing in both positions if needed.

Fernandez-Pardo has also attracted the attention of clubs like Newcastle and Aston Villa this summer, but Lille are understood to be holding out for a big fee for their star forward as they look to keep hold of him for at least another campaign.

Fernandez-Pardo Could Be Wildcard Signing

Carrick has made it abundantly clear that if it were up to him a new left-winger would be coming into the squad this summer.

The potential return of Rashford has potentially lessened that need for an immediate starter to come in, but he can’t and won’t play every game, while it’s fair to say that Dorgu and Matheus Cunha are both at their best in different roles.

Adding Fernandez-Pardo to the squad would provide quality depth and competition for the attacking positions, and his versatility means he’d be a welcome addition at Old Trafford for the right price too.
