Atletico Madrid Near £39m Deal for Wolves Midfielder Joao Gomes

Published

on

A Champions League club are now close to signing Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes in a deal that could be worth in the region of £39 million, according to GIVEMESPORT correspondent Ben Jacobs.

Wolves’ relegation from the Premier League was confirmed last month, and as a result, we could see a host of their stars head for the exit door in the summer transfer window.

The likes of Gomes won’t want to be playing championship football, and he certainly won’t be the only one heading into the 2026/2027 season.

A reset in the summer transfer window could be what Wolves need after such a disappointing season, which saw them relegated from the Premier League early.

According to GIVEMESPORT correspondent Jacobs, Atletico Madrid are now close to a deal to sign Wolves midfielder Gomes ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Spanish club is set to pay a fee in the region of £39 million, with parties in advanced talks to secure his signature.

It’s a deal that could potentially impact Manchester United as they are showing an interest in Atalanta midfielder Ederson.

Atletico also have verbal terms in place to sign Ederson, which could open the door for United to secure his signature, with the Spanish outfit now closing in on Gomes.

£39m Could Fund Wolves Window

Wolves should not be forced to spend too much money in the summer transfer window in order to build a squad capable of being promoted back to the Premier League.

The £39 million received for Gomes could go a long way in funding their whole window, especially if they manage to keep a strong core of players from this season.

Although Wolves supporters will likely want to see a host of their players head through the exit door, it is important that there isn’t too much upheaval.

There will be certain players who will be desperate for moves away from the club, and the Midlands outfit shouldn’t be standing in their way as they need players to be committed.

Tottenham Desperate To Complete First Summer Signing After Liverpool Decision

Published

Tottenham Hotspur might just have been forced to move a bit quicker in the transfer market after what happened at Liverpool on Saturday.

There was an element of surprise when Liverpool announced that Arne Slot had been relieved of his duties as manager at Anfield.

The Dutchman had guided the Reds to the Premier League title in his first season in charge, but followed it up this year with a disappointing fifth-place finish.

Liverpool make approach to bring in Andoni Iraola

And despite reports suggesting he had the backing of owners Fenway Sports Group ahead of the 2026/27 season, he was sacked, with the club citing that “change is necessary in order for the club to keep moving forward” in a long statement on his departure.

Slot is expected to be replaced at Anfield by outgoing Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola, with the former Cherries manager the overwhelming favourite to take over in the Anfield dugout.

GIVEMESPORT understands that Liverpool have already made an approach to Iraola, who is the standout candidate to replace Slot and talks are expected to move quickly.

And that move to bring in Iraola could lead Spurs to hasten one transfer move.

Tottenham have had an agreement in principle in place to sign Marcos Senesi, following he conclusion of his contract at the Vitality Stadium, for some time, with journalist Rudy Galetti even stating earlier this week that it was a “done deal”.

However, a deal to take him to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has not yet been confirmed by Spurs and there may be some nervousness in the fanbase now about getting the transfer over the line.

Konate exit could force Liverpool into the transfer market

Liverpool were one of the clubs linked with potentially hijacking the transfer this summer, given question marks over Ibrahima Konate’s future at the club. It has since been confirmed that he will be leaving, meaning the Reds will be in the market for another centre-back in this window.

And if Iraola is inserted as the new manager of Liverpool in the coming days, as expected, given their previous working relationship, the Reds may yet try to make a late move to hijack the Tottenham deal for Senesi.

Senesi is a free agent after leaving Bournemouth and can put pen-to-paper anywhere now, with his agent playing a key role in the 29-year-old’s future.

Exact UK Start Time Revealed

WWE will stage its first European Premium Live Event of 2026 on Sunday evening as Clash in Italy takes place at the Inalpi Arena in Turin.

The show marks the first time that a WWE PLE has ever taken place in Italy and fans are set to be treated to a stacked night of action. The card includes no less than three matches that could be main events in their own right, with both men’s world championships scheduled to be on the line.

The start time of Clash in Italy has now been confirmed, and it’s great news for fans in the UK, who will be able to catch the full event at a far more reasonable hour than usual.

WWE Clash in Italy to Open With Major Championship Match

Cody Rhodes vs Gunther

As is the norm for most major WWE events these days, the card features just five matches, but there are high stakes attached to every bout.

Owing to the company’s deal to broadcast the first two matches of the card on ESPN in the USA, it has already been confirmed that the WWE Championship match between Cody Rhodes and Gunther will open the show.

In addition, ESPN will air the WWE Women’s Championship clash that pits Rhea Ripley against Jade Gargill in a rematch of their WrestleMania 42 showdown.

With the ESPN portion of Clash in Italy lasting just one hour, the show is sure to get off to a fast start, so it won’t be one to tune in late for.

Oba Femi vs Brock Lesnar 2 Happens at WWE Clash in Italy

Oba Femi vs Brock Lesnar 2

Brock Lesnar had everyone fooled after losing to Oba Femi at WrestleMania 42 last month. After losing cleanly to ‘The Ruler’ in a short match, Brock stunned fans at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas as he removed his gloves and boots, seemingly signalling his retirement from WWE.

However, it didn’t take Lesnar long to make his return as the 48-year-old interrupted the ‘Oba Femi Open Challenge’ on Raw, setting up a major rematch at Clash in Italy.

Brock is still expected to retire at some point this year, but it is not expected that Sunday’s event will mark his final appearance with the company.

Roman Reigns vs Jacob Fatu Scheduled For Clash in Italy

Clash in Italy is likely to be headlined by the Tribal Combat (No Holds Barred) Match between Roman Reigns and Jacob Fatu for the World Heavyweight Championship, assuming that the challenger is fit to compete.

Fatu was reportedly injured during a WWE live event in Liverpool on Thursday. However, the company remains hopeful that the ‘Samoan Werewolf’ will be able to appear as advertised.

At time of writing, the match is still being promoted via all of WWE’s official channels. There were also rumours that Sol Ruca may not challenge Becky Lynch for the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship on the card due to injury, although that bout is also expected to take place as scheduled,

The Exact UK Start Time For WWE Clash in Italy Confirmed

For much of this year, WWE fans have been used to having to stay up late to watch the company’s PLEs live in the UK, but that won’t be the case at Clash in Italy.

The event will begin at 7pm UK time (2pm ET/11am PT in the US), with Rhodes vs Gunther set to make their entrances shortly afterwards.

Don’t miss a second of WWE’s biggest event since WrestleMania 42, with plenty of drama expected in Turin. WWE Clash in Italy is exclusively available in the UK via Netflix.

Man City Get Green Light to Sign Anderson After Man Utd Call

It has looked, for some time, like a straight shootout between the two Manchester clubs for Elliot Anderson’s signature in the summer transfer window.

But Manchester United‘s transfer dealings so far – with the window not actually open for another two weeks yet – may point to their rivals City getting a free run at the Nottingham Forest midfielder after all.

It seems highly unlikely that we will hear anything with regard to the 23-year-old’s future for another month, with the midfielder enjoying a short break before meeting up with his England teammates for the World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico next week.

There had been a growing feeling that City were the frontrunners to sign Anderson, with the bookmakers having them at 4/11 to sign him, with United at 4/1.

City have long been confident of getting a deal over the line, but GIVEMESPORT have always reported that Anderson was United’s number one priority in the transfer window this summer.

United are in the market for two new central midfielders, with Casemiro leaving the club and the Red Devils open to selling Manuel Ugarte, but it now does not look like Anderson will be one of them.

United have reached an agreement with Atalanta to sign Brazilian midfielder Ederson this summer in a deal worth just under £39million. He will be midfielder number one joining and there are strong reports that Sandro Tonali could be the second.

Manchester United interest in Carlos Baleba has cooled, but while it looked like United had been put off by the price tag for Tonali and the lack of value in the deal, they could now get a transfer over the line.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claimed last week that United delegates jetting out to Italy for talks over the Ederson deal would have met up with Tonali’s representatives too to discuss terms.

A separate report from Italy last week claimed that United were actually close to an agreement to sign the ‘elite’ Tonali, with another saying new permanent manager Michael Carrick instructed club chiefs to sign the Italian international ahead of Ederson as part of their major midfield rebuild.

There are also links with Mateus Fernandes, who could now be available on a cut-price deal following West Ham’s relegation to the Championship.

GIVEMESPORT reported on suggestions that Manchester United had pulled out of a move to sign Anderson earlier this week and it may now be coming true, with rivals City getting the green light to conclude a £100m deal with Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis.
