The viral Manchester United fan, who hasn’t cut his hair in 581 days, has issued an instant reaction to the Red Devils’ 0-0 draw with Sunderland on Saturday afternoon. The goalless result means Frank Ilett – better known by his online alias ‘The United Strand’ – will now have to wait until next season before his club can win five matches in a row.
After coming close to finally booking a trip to the barbers earlier this season, the 29-year-old watched United beat Manchester City, Arsenal, Fulham, and Tottenham, only for the run to end with a draw against relegation candidates West Ham in February. Since then, there has been a period of relative silence from him.
Pressure has also been growing for him to abandon the promise altogether, with many at Old Trafford criticising him for profiting on social media from the club’s struggles. Michael Carrick and his players had grown tired of being asked about the stunt as well, but that still hasn’t stopped Ilett from continuing to grow out his hair.

It would appear even Ilett is getting frustrated by his challenge, with his post to his Instagram story at full-time this weekend being very short and sweet as he faces the reality of another few months with an afro. He wrote (see below):
“Going to be a hot summer!”
He also posted at halftime (see below):
