LP, APC clash in Abia as opposition accuses Gov Otti of underpaying workers
The All Progressive Congress, APC, has written to Governor Alex Otti of Abia State, requesting him to improve the living conditions of workers and pensioners in the State.
In the said letter, the APC claimed that some civil servants in the State were receiving far below the approved N70,000 national minimum wage benchmark, as monthly salaries.
The letter, which was signed by Uche Aguoru, the Publicity Secretary of the APC, Abia State chapter, also urged the Governor to address the unpaid gratuity of pensioners, even as it criticised the delay in the implementation of allowance increase promised the members of the National Youths Service Corps, NYSC, who are serving in the State.
The party said:
“Also very disappointing was the widely published announcement made by your administration over a year ago, promising to increase the monthly allowance of NYSC members serving in the State to N50,000.”
But responding to the APC letter, the leadership of the Labour Party, LP, in Abia State, accused the broom party of spreading desperate and blatant lies against Governor Otti’s administration concerning the welfare of civil servants and pensioners.
The LP, which spoke through its Publicity Secretary in the State, Iroegbu Emenike, said the days when pensioners died in queues for their pensions were over in the State.
The LP alleged that members of the present APC in the State were part of the people that allegedly set the State back for almost 30 years before Governor Alex Otti took over, adding that the APC lacked the face to write such an open letter to Governor Otti.
LP maintained that workers and retirees are receiving their salaries and monthly pensions, respectively.
On the delay in implementing the NYSC members’s monthly allowance promises, LP berated the APC, saying that the broom party failed to “understand that that pronouncements by a Governor are followed by administrative procedures and policies before full implementation.”

2027: ADC raises alarm over removal of billboard in Ibadan
Gubernatorial candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, ahead of 2027 general elections in Oyo State, Chief Adegboyega Adegoke has raised an alarm over the removal of one of his billboards in Ibadan.
Adegoke made the claim in a statement issued by his media office on Saturday.
He alleged that Oyo State Government illegally removed his billboard at Idi-Ape junction in Ibadan, the State capital.
He also alleged that his banner, which contained his own picture and the ADC presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, was removed and replaced by a banner which has the pictures of Governor Seyi Makinde, APM Presidential candidate and the APM Governorship Candidate in Oyo State, Mr Bimbo Adekambi.
He described the action as illegal.
Adegoke claimed that the current administration in the state was jittery of the popularity of Atiku.
“Such illegal act will not be tolerated and it cannot diminish the growing popularity of Oloye Adegoke and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar in Ibadan and the entire Oyo State.
“Is this how we want to continue to play politics in Oyo state, behaving as if we are in a banana republic?
“Gov Makinde should not be jittery. He should be ready to face the electorate. As far as Oloye Adegoke and Alhaji Atiku are concerned, they are sure of victory come 2027,” he said.

The Chairman of the Osun State chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, Dr Tosin Odeyemi, has resigned from the party and been appointed acting state chairman of the newly registered Democratic Leadership Alliance, DLA.
Odeyemi’s resignation was contained in a letter dated July 16, 2026, and addressed to the National Chairman of the NNPP.
In the letter, he formally informed the party of his decision to leave and requested that his name and personal details be removed from its membership register.
The former NNPP chairman did not, however, disclose the reason for his resignation in the letter.
Odeyemi, who is regarded as an ally of former Kano State Governor Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, publicly unveiled his new political platform on Saturday and confirmed that he had accepted a leadership role within the Democratic Leadership Alliance.
His appointment as the pioneer Acting State Chairman of the DLA in Osun State was conveyed in a letter dated July 17, 2026, and signed by the party’s National Chairman, Samuel Memeh.
According to the appointment letter, “the decision followed the approval of the party’s National Executive Committee, which entrusted Odeyemi with the responsibility of building and strengthening the party’s structure across Osun State.”
The letter stated that his duties include “establishing and maintaining party structures, upholding the party’s constitution and ideology, and reporting the activities of the Osun chapter directly to the National Working Committee.”
Speaking after his appointment, Odeyemi expressed appreciation to the DLA leadership for the confidence reposed in him.
“I thank the National Chairman, the National Executive Committee and the National Working Committee for entrusting me with this responsibility.
“I accept this appointment with humility and a strong sense of responsibility. My immediate priority is to unite genuine members, promote discipline within the party and position the DLA as a credible alternative for residents of Osun seeking purposeful leadership,” he said.
Odeyemi also assured the national leadership that the affairs of the Osun chapter would be conducted transparently, saying, “We will run the party with transparency and commitment. I call on members and stakeholders to support this new political platform.”
