Liverpool star interested in offer as AC Milan prepare proposal to sign long-serving star

Published

on

Liverpool star Joe Gomez is said to be ‘particularly interested’ in what AC Milan could offer him as the Serie A giants eye a summer move for the defender.

That is according to a report from the Daily Mail, with the outlet also crediting Turkish club Besiktas with an interest in the ex-Charlton Athletic player.

Gomez has been with Liverpool since 2015 but only has one year remaining on his current contract. He is the longest-serving player left in the Reds squad.

Much of his time at the club has been blighted by injury but he has rarely come in for major criticism when he has been available.

Injuries have continued to hamper his minutes this season with just six Premier League starts as the Reds look to seal a place in the Champions League for next campaign in their final two games.

AC Milan have previously expressed an interest in Gomez, who is said to be open to a proposal from the Italian giants.

As things stand, Liverpool only have two centre-backs contracted beyond the end of next season.

Alongside Gomez, Virgil van Dijk is also out of contract in 2027 while Ibrahima Konate’s deal runs out this summer and no agreement has been reached on fresh terms.

Giovanni Leoni, who they signed from Parma for £26m last summer, has spent the season out with an ACL injury. Liverpool signed Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes for £55m in January with the young defender to join up with the squad this summer.

At the age of 28, Gomez still has plenty of time on his side but his persistent injury problems could see the Reds opt to sell him with just one year left on his deal.

Joe Gomez has already addressed his Liverpool future

Speaking in recent days, Gomez was questioned on his future at Anfield and did not provide any certainty on where he would be playing next season.

“I think anything can happen. I don’t know is the honest answer,” Gomez said.

“I’ve only got a year left so I don’t know, but whatever is meant to be will be, I guess.

“But I’m so grateful to have had this time here at this club. I’ll always be grateful to have had 11 years at a place like this.

“All I can do is be thankful and we’ll see.”

AC Milan made an attempt to sign Gomez last summer but the deal collapsed after Marc Guehi’s proposed move to Anfield from Crystal Palace also fell through.

Gomez has made 272 appearances for Liverpool, providing 12 assists while he is still waiting for his first goal for the club.

Man Utd Must Snub Summerville After Signing ‘One of England’s Best Prospects’

Published

Crysencio Summerville has been one of Manchester United‘s top transfer targets but it appears they no longer need the West Ham United winger.

Fabrizio Romano revealed that United are not willing to step up their interest in Summerville due to Marcus Rashford’s uncertain situation. The English forward spent last season on loan at Barcelona and had been expected to leave Old Trafford permanently.

Rashford aside, the Red Devils are conducting transfer business ahead of a return to the UEFA Champions League. Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos have arrived to help with a midfield rebuild.

Man Utd Seal ‘First-Team Ready’ Thompson

Michael Carrick

United’s latest signing is 18-year-old Tynan Thompson, who has joined the club from Tottenham Hotspur in a deal worth up to £8 million. The Standard reports that an initial payment of £4m has been made with the package including £4m in add-ons.

Thompson is an exciting prospect who earned a place in Spurs’ first-team matchday squad three times last season. He is a pacey winger who managed seven goals in the UEFA Youth League last season.

Such is United’s trust in the England U18 international that they have opted to announce his signing. When a youth player joins the club, they aren’t often presented as a major arrival, which speaks volumes of their belief that Thompson could be a first-team star sooner rather than later.

In fact, United insider SullyTalkz reports that Thompson is set to be involved in pre-season games with Carrick’s senior squad. ‘One of England’s best attacking prospects, ‘ he is likely to be used as a left wing option next season.

That might rule out a move for Summerville given the club believes they have found themselves a youngster ready for first-team football. They reportedly saw off competition from other Premier League clubs to seal his signature.

AS Roma are set to make a third bid for the West Ham winger and he could cost around £40m. That’s money that can be spent elsewhere, including at left-back.

Thompson’s Arrival Gives Carrick a Perfect Plan

The plan moving forward should be for Thompson to serve as backup to Matheus Cunha and Rashford on the left flank. While the latter’s wages are an issue, there’s no denying he’s one of the best attacking talents in England when at his best.

If Carrick can get Rashford playing to the best of his ability, he could have an attack boasting plenty of firepower next season. United needed a more reliable backup for Benjamin Sesko, and the Englishman could operate as a number nine if required.

Thompson’s arrival allows Carrick and his transfer chiefs to focus solely on completing their midfield rebuild. It could also give them the chance to spend big on a new left-back with Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall still on their shortlist.

England, Liverpool, and Newcastle legend Kevin Keegan has died at the age of 75. The sad news of his passing came to light on Monday afternoon, with the retired footballer having been diagnosed with cancer earlier this year.

In a statement, his family said: “It is with immense sadness that we announce that Kevin Keegan has passed away. The former Three Lions player and manager had been battling illness and was surrounded by his wife and daughters in his final moments, according to Sky News.

During his career, he also played for the likes of Southampton, Scunthorpe United. Meanwhile, his managerial journey took him to stops such as Fulham, Manchester City, and the Magpies again – a team he could never stay too far away from.

Keegan’s family statement continued:

“Kevin, a double Ballon D’or winner, was a much loved husband, father and grandfather. The family would like to thank Kevin’s incredible medical team for all their support. This is a hugely difficult time, and they are requesting space and privacy.”

Among those to pay tribute, Newcastle have also released a statement paying tribute to Keegan – affectionately known as ‘King Kev’ at St James’ Park. It reads: “We are devastated to learn of the passing of Kevin Keegan, one of the most iconic, influential and deeply loved figures in our club’s history.

“Kevin was more than a legendary footballer and manager. He was the beating heart of Newcastle United for generations of supporters. As a player, he brought world-class talent, ambition and belief to St. James’ Park, helping to transform perceptions of what Newcastle United could be.

“As a manager, he ignited our city. Kevin gave supporters hope and pride, and led a team whose style, spirit and passion captured the imagination of football fans around the world. He was so much more than an entertainer.”

The beautiful tribute continued: “Above all that, Kevin forged an extraordinary bond with Newcastle, built on the roots of his father, Joe. He understood our people. He embraced the North East with a passion that was genuine and unwavering, and in return, he earned his rightful place in the hearts of millions.

“Kevin’s impact will not be measured by appearances or results. It will live on in the memories he created with club and country, the dreams he inspired wherever he went, and the generations of supporters around the world who fell in love with football because of him.

“At this profoundly sad time, we send our love and deepest sympathy to Kevin’s wife Jean, his family, friends and all who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him.

“Today, we mourn the loss of a true giant of our history, and at the appropriate moment, we will carefully consider how we shape a lasting tribute to Kevin’s remarkable life and legacy. Rest in Peace, King Kev.”

Southampton, meanwhile, will remember him for “bringing great joy to fans at The Dell,” as other clubs, teammates, and those within football pay tributes to the icon.

Keegan’s Incredible Legacy in Football will Remain Immortal

Keegan was considered one of the best players of his generation and enjoyed a stellar playing career, making almost 750 club appearances, lifting the First Division trophy four times with Liverpool to become one of their all-time greats and winning the Ballon d’Or back-to-back in 1978 and 1979 while playing for Hamburg in the Bundesliga.

His first and most renowned managerial success occurred at St James’ Park. Inheriting a struggling second-tier side, he brought an influx of passion and energy that rescued the club from relegation in 1992, before then guiding them to the Premier League a year later, and then overseeing the Newcastle team that became known as ‘The Entertainers’ as they achieved consecutive second-place top-flight finishes in 1995 and 1996.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic ‘Hated’ Four Players During his Career

Published

on

By

The love-hate relationship between Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Alexi Lalas has been one of the biggest off-pitch talking points of the 2026 World Cup. Partnered with Thierry Henry for Fox Sports’ coverage of football’s most prestigious competition, cracks in the dynamic began to emerge when the legendary Sweden striker openly dubbed his colleague ‘ignorant’.

Since then, the thin line between banter and bashing has often blurred, but it has made for excellent viewing with Fox Sports’ coverage often gaining traction on social media throughout the World Cup.

But when it comes to disliking workmates, Zlatan has form. With an ego almost as famous as his football, it’s pretty easy for someone to end up on the wrong side of the former Manchester United front-man. One case in point being Edinson Cavani, who threatened the Swede’s position as PSG’s main source of goals after joining the French club in 2013.

Cavani is one of four teammates the iconic forward reportedly failed to get along with during his decorated career.

Ibrahimovic’s Issues With Cavani at PSG

Cavani

Ibrahimovic and Cavani are both regarded as PSG legends and, despite the Swede’s problems with the former Napoli forward, they still enjoyed plenty of success together. The pair shared the pitch 107 times, combined for 25 goals and lifted three Ligue 1 titles during their time in the same team.

However, Ibrahimovic’s former LA Galaxy teammate, Michael Ciani, offered an insight into the AC Milan legend’s hatred for Cavani and three other teammates during his career. Speaking to RMC Sport in 2020, he said:

If you are close to Cavani, Ibra does not like it. Either you are with Ibra, or you are against him. He told me that everything was fine with Laurent Blanc at PSG. The only person he did not get along with was Cavani. He told me that he only hated three or four people in his career… and one of them was Cavani.

Ibrahimovic departed PSG for Manchester United in July 2016 when his contract came to an end. Cavani almost followed a similar route, eventually joining the Red Devils two years after the former 122-cap Sweden international had left the Premier League giants.

Ibrahimovic’s Problems with Van der Vaart, Lukaku and Onyewu

MixCollage-03-Sep-2024-07-55-PM-5724

Although Cavani was the only player specifically named as one of ‘the four’, the Uruguayan wasn’t the only one of Ibrahimovic’s former teammates to incur the fierce Swede’s wrath. Back in 2004, he faced former Ajax teammate Rafael van der Vaart during an international friendly between Sweden and the Netherlands.

A number of Dutch players crowded Ibrahimovic as he tried to force his way into the penalty area, and he reacted by lashing out, leaving van der Vaart in a heap on the turf. The former Tottenham attacking midfielder suffered an ankle injury and was forced into a spell on the sidelines.

Van der Vaart claimed Ibrahimovic had hurt him deliberately, but the former Sweden captain rejected that accusation and warned him that, if he blamed him again, he would break both of his legs and this time do it on purpose.

Romelu Lukaku, who spent one season alongside Ibrahimovic at Manchester United, was later caught up in a heated confrontation with the forward during a Milan derby in 2021. The Belgian had effectively replaced Zlatan at Old Trafford before Cavani eventually arrived.

Ibrahimovic’s most explosive clash with a teammate came during his time with former Milan defender Oguchi Onyewu. The pair wanted to ‘tear each other limb to limb’ after a training-ground fight turned physical, with punches and knees thrown. The Swede later described the incident as ‘life and death’, saying:

“The next time he got the ball in training; I rushed towards him and jumped up with my feet and studs out in front. But he saw me and leapt out of the way. I headbutted him, and we flew at each other. We wanted to tear each other limb from limb. It was brutal. We were rolling around, punching and kneeing each other. We were crazy and furious — it was like life and death.

“I was stopped by my teammates, and I suppose that was a good thing. It could have turned out nasty. All the time, I was thinking: ‘S***, my chest hurts,’ so we had it checked out. I’d broken a rib in the fight. It was not the first time I’d had a dispute with a team-mate.”
