Ogun 2027 election: Accord party presents Okewole Olaniyi as its gubernatorial candidate
The Accord Party in Ogun State has announced Okewole Olaniyi as the party’s gubernatorial candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
The party’s chairman, Oke Rotimi Michael, who also doubles as chairman of the electoral committee, made the announcement during the 2026 primary election for the governorship and State House of Assembly elections, held on Tuesday at its secretariat in Abeokuta.
Other members of the electoral committee include the secretary, Mr. Ajetunmobi Lateef, Mrs. Feyisetan Babatunde, Mrs. Rasheedat Shittu and Mr. Caleb Adetoro, who served as members of the committee.
Michael disclosed that the party had agreed to adopt the consensus approach in selecting its candidates.
He said, “We have voted, presented and I am here to declare, as the chairman of the 2026 primary election for the governorship and House of Assembly elections of Accord Ogun State.
“For the primary election of the State Assembly in Ogun State, held at the party’s secretariat here in Abeokuta, the following aspirants emerged winners, and I will start from the bottom to the top.
“Mr. Salami Monsuru emerged winner for Ado-Odo/Ota 2 State Constituency, Mr. Jinadu Oyeniyi for Sagamu 1 State Constituency, and Mrs. Abulraheem Lateefat for Abeokuta North State Constituency, and this has been signed and authenticated.
“Also, for the gubernatorial candidate, we have the winner of the party, Okewole Olaniyi.”
The party chairman admonished all elected candidates to remain focused and make residents feel the impact of the party, stressing that what they are doing is for the future.
Michael maintained that the party belongs to all and not just a set of politicians, reiterating its commitment to bringing about the much-needed development in the state.
“We have a lot of things to do to make our state great. This is just the beginning and we are taking the first step. We must make the people feel the impact of the party.
“I assure you that Accord is here to bring the much-needed development. Let’s bear it in mind and go out to tell people that this time around, it’s not selfishness as usual.
“Let’s go out and preach to people, tell them we want development and not retrogression,” he added.
In his acceptance speech, Olaniyi, who was represented by the Director-General of his campaign organisation, Waheed Azeez, appreciated the party and promised to work strategically to bring about the needed change.
“We are making an attempt to effect a total overhaul of the status quo politically. We believe that what we are witnessing in the state is not the best, and the Accord Party is poised to change it strategically and bring about something positive,” he stated.

Cardinal Onaiyekan: Resign if you have no solution to Nigeria’s challenges – APM tells Tinubu
The Allied People’s Movement has advised President Bola Tinubu to resign or withdraw from the presidential race if he has no solutions to worsening economic and security challenges confronting Nigeria.
A statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Yusuf, the party condemned what it described as attacks by the presidency on the Archbishop Emeritus of Abuja Catholic Diocese, John Cardinal Onaiyekan.
According to the opposition, the criticism directed at the respected Catholic cleric over his comments on the country’s economic situation reflected intolerance of dissent and an unwillingness by the Federal Government to address the concerns of ordinary Nigerians.
The APM described the attacks on Onaiyekan as unacceptable, stressing that religious leaders should be respected for speaking on issues affecting the nation.
“Since President Tinubu has demonstrated through his reliance on excuses that he has no solutions, he should withdraw from the presidential race and allow younger hands with workable solutions to manage the affairs of our nation.
“The Allied People’s Movement strongly condemns the presidency’s attack on the Archbishop Emeritus of Abuja, John Cardinal Onaiyekan, over his comments regarding the country’s worsening economic situation under President Bola Tinubu’s administration,” the statement partly read.
The party further stated that rather than engaging with concerns raised by respected citizens and faith leaders, the government had chosen to resort to personal attacks.

You got 16 votes, couldn’t change your poverty-stricken community – Davido attacks Bashir Ahmad
Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known by his stage name Davido, has lambasted Bashir Ahmad, a former presidential media aide, over his remarks on the Osun State governorship election.
DAILY POST reports that the exchange began after Davido took to X on Thursday to celebrate President Bola Tinubu’s telephone conversation with Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.
In the post, Davido said he was present during the phone conversation, adding that he “witnessed history.”
Reacting to the post, Bashir Ahmad said he was bookmarking Davido’s post, expressing confidence that the singer would return to X to lament the outcome of the August 15 governorship election.
“This tweet is bookmarked. It will serve as a reference for future events. I know you will come back here to lament if the August 15 results don’t go your way,” Bashir wrote.
However, Davido responded with another remark, mocking Bashir’s performance in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election.
“You got 16 votes, bro, in the primaries. STFU,” the singer wrote.
In another post, Davido accused the former aide of failing to change the lives of people in his community despite serving for eight years in the administration of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
“You measure success by one award. I measure it by sold-out arenas, billions of streams, global influence, and people singing my songs across continents.
“You had government backing and still couldn’t convince enough people to back you in your small constituency. You’re a small boy who came into politics by accident.
“You spent 8yrs with the ex-president and couldn’t make a change in your poverty-stricken community.
“We all have different trophies, Bashir. I’ll keep inspiring the young ones and generations to come while you wait for the next government job to get crumbs,” Davido wrote.

Osun guber: Tinubu should immediately resign, not EFCC chairman over govt account freezing — SDP’s Adebayo
The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Adewole Adebayo, has asked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to resign over the freezing of the Osun State Government’s account domiciled with First Bank.
He made the call while speaking with journalists after an event in Abuja on Thursday.
Recall that the nation was thrown into shock over the freezing of the Osun State Government’s account by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) a few days before the state’s governorship election slated for August 15, 2026.
The Commission confirmed the action, explaining that it detected suspicious transactions in the Osun State Government’s account.
However, in a statement issued by the president’s spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, on Thursday, Tinubu directed the EFCC to vacate the court order freezing the Osun State Government’s account.
The development has led to calls in some quarters for the resignation of the EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede.
Reacting, Adebayo said it is President Tinubu, not Olukoyede, who should resign because “the buck stops” with the president.
According to him, the Commission, like other security agencies, is a difficult place to work.
“Well, the person who should resign is President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. I don’t have enough evidence to suggest that the EFCC chairman should resign. The only person who is at fault here is the President himself because the EFCC is a very difficult place to work,” he said.
