Marcus Rashford vs Anthony Gordon: Stats Compared in 2025/26
In a fascinating early development ahead of the 2026 summer transfer window, it appears as though Anthony Gordon is already close to securing a major move away from Newcastle United. Reports suggest he could soon complete an £70m move to Barcelona ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
While this would be a great move for the Englishman, one of his international teammates may be a little concerned by the news. After all, Barca already have a left-winger on their books in Marcus Rashford.
The 28-year-old has spent the season in Spain on loan from Manchester United, but this suggests he’s not done enough to convince Hansi Flick that he’d be worth the reported £26m to get a permanent transfer across the line.
Adding to the intrigue, both Gordon and Rashford are set to battle it out for the starting left-winger position under Thomas Tuchel at this summer’s World Cup. With all that in mind, here’s how the duo’s stats compare from the past season.

Simple Stats in 2025/26
It makes sense to start with a quick glance at their club performances in 2025/26. Both played a similar number of minutes and games, so it’s fair to compare how they got on.
Notably, Rashford had a more productive season. Although he scored three fewer goals, he had 14 assists, meaning he directly contributed to 28 goals, which is six more than the 22 Gordon managed in all competitions.
Rashford also helped deliver a league title as Barcelona secured La Liga thanks to his eight goals and nine assists in 32 outings. The Englishman also bagged an impressive nine-goal contribution as his side made it to the Champions League semi-finals.
However, Gordon outshone Rahsford in that competition, with a remarkable 10 goals in the European competition, as well as a further two assists, before Newcastle were knocked out by Barcelona at the Last 16 stage. The 25-year-old wasn’t at his best in the Premier League as he scored just six times, with the Magpies finishing 12th.
With that in mind, it’s likely his displays in the Champions League are what really caught Barcelona’s attention. It wouldn’t have hurt that he scored against them in September – although Rashford hit a brace in the very same game.

Detailed Club Stats in the League For 2025/26
One fair way to get an idea of how the duo have performed this season is to look at more detailed stats in the league per 90 minutes. In La Liga, Rashford appears to have been a more impactful player. He averaged more shots per 90, with a better shooting accuracy, which is reflected in his aforementioned superior goal tally.
The Barca star was also more creative, with 2.4 chances created per game – compared to Gordon’s 1.3 – and had a better crossing and passing accuracy. That said, the Newcastle star was more progressive with his passing, making 6.8 forward passes per 90, compared to 5.4, which may explain why he was marginally less accurate – although both men appear to be reliable on the ball due to their high technical level.
Positively for Gordon, he was a better dribbler, with a take-on success rate of 48.48 per cent, which is far better than Rashford’s 33.33 per cent. And he also lost the ball and was caught offside far less often. Perhaps most notably, the Newcastle star offers a little more off the ball, with more duels won per 90.

Career Stats and Final Conclusion
Finally, it’s worth a look at how the pair compared across their entire careers. Of course, Rashford is almost four years older, so it’s unsurprising that he has played more, scored more, assisted more, and won more. That said, there’s every reason to think that Gordon could match the 28-year-old’s tally when he reaches the same age.
For example, he’s played 30 fewer Champions League games but is already just seven goals behind Rashford, while he could also expect to enjoy more success if he were playing for a better team. After all, Gordon has played for Everton and Newcastle so far in his career, while Rashford has been at Man Utd and more recently Barcelona – teams which tend to dominate more and have a greater shot at trophies.
That said, one mark against Gordon’s name is that he has scored just two goals for England and has not registered an assist in 17 games. In comparison, Rashford has 25 goal contributions in his 70 caps for the Three Lions.
Overall, Rashford has clearly had a superior career and appears to have had a better season at club level in 2025/26. However, he is 28 years old and in his prime, whereas Gordon should soon be coming into it (still aged just 25). What’s more, the younger Englishman is known for his work rate – and this is reflected by the fact that he won more duels than Rashford in the league per 90.
An ability to press and work hard off the ball may well explain why Barcelona appear keen on the Newcastle star. Gordon is also younger, so he appears to have more upside in the long-run. That said, the finances are extremely high on the move, with a £70m fee touted, and massive reported wages of £300,000-a-week. Seeing as Rashford earns closer to £230,000-per-week, and may even take a pay cut to secure a move for just £26m, it feels somewhat strange that Barcelona don’t want to get that deal done.
It feels as if the Spanish giants are keen on signing Gordon for what he could be, but – judging from the stats – they’d perhaps be wise to not overlook what they already have in Rashford.

Man City Make Decision on Signing £100m Chelsea Star
Manchester City are targeting midfield reinforcements this summer but they will not be making a move for a current Chelsea star, Sky Sports News has reported.
It is set to be a summer of change at the Etihad Stadium with Pep Guardiola leaving the club after 10 years in charge. Bernardo Silva and John Stones are also departing.
Enzo Maresca is expected to take charge of City ahead of the 2026/27 campaign, having previously spent time as an assistant coach with the FA Cup winners.
City won six Premier League titles in 10 years under Guardiola but this season was the first time since the Spaniard’s arrival they had gone consecutive campaigns without being crowned champions.
Man City don’t want Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez
City are eager to strengthen their options in midfield and Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson is their top target. The Etihad Stadium side have been named as favourites to sign the England international, with rivals Manchester United also keen on the midfielder.
Anderson is expected to cost upwards of £100million. Forest believe Declan Rice’s £105million move to Arsenal and Moises Caicedo’s £115million switch to Chelsea have set a benchmark.
One player City will not be pursuing a deal for, however, is Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez.
Sky Sports News have reported that Anderson is the club’s priority and there is now no intention to sign Fernandez, after earlier reports linking them with a move for the player.
Fernandez is valued at £100million by Chelsea having joined for £107million in 2023. The Argentine midfielder still has six years left on his contract at Stamford Bridge.
Enzo Fernandez knows Enzo Maresca well
Fernandez played under incoming City boss Maresca when the pair were together at Chelsea. During the 2024/25 campaign, Maresca hailed Fernandez’s leadership qualities and described him as ‘fantastic‘.
The former Benfica player impressed interim Chelsea boss Calum McFarlane too. Fernandez scored the winner for Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final against Leeds United.
After that game, McFarlane was visceral in his praise of the player. He said: “He’s a winner – he’s got so much talent, he’s got so much fire. He’s massive for this group and the best thing about Enzo is that he can do a bit of everything, but when it gets tough, you see the fight in him.”
Fernandez was dropped for two games by ex-Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior in April after saying he would welcome the chance to live in Madrid.
He later apologised for those remarks, it was reported the player and his agent were seeking improved terms with Chelsea.

Tennis Fans Concerned For Rafael Nadal After Recent Photo of Him and Roger Federer
Tennis fans have taken to social media to voice their concerns for former superstar Rafael Nadal.
The Spaniard, now 39, posted a picture of himself and fellow tennis legend, Roger Federer, together in Madrid. The picture quickly got fans talking about Nadal’s changes in physique since his retirement from tennis back in 2024.
Nadal is widely considered one of the greatest tennis players of all time, with a glittering career consisting of 22 Grand Slam titles during one of the most competitive eras of the sport. Amongst those is a stunning 14 victories at the French Open with him being crowned the ‘King of Clay.’
He is one of only three players to have completed the career Golden Slam in men’s singles, and was also once the youngest man to complete the career Grand Slam at the age of just 24.
Since retiring, Nadal has focused on expanding his legacy through managing the Rafa Nadal Academy in Mallorca, mentoring the next generation of tennis players. He is also noted to be a keen padel and golf player too.
In the picture posted alongside Federer, Nadal captioned it: “Look who I found in Madrid!”

Fans were quick to notice the loss of muscle since his retirement.
One fan said: “Wth happened to Rafa? Is he ill or something?”
Roger Federer Named His Toughest Tennis Opponent of All Time
Roger Federer has played against the best of the best when it comes to tennis, but one man stands out for him as the toughest opponent of his career.
Another voiced their concerns, saying: “Are you alright, Rafa? You look pretty weak. Hope you are doing great.”
One fan noted the muscle loss compared to when he was playing by mentioning the power and strength Nadal was known for during his career: “Is it me, or you’ve lost muscles. The Nadal muscles.”
Other fans, however, rushed to Rafa’s defence and said: “When someone retires from being a professional athlete, their body no longer looks like a professional athlete’s body because they are not spending all their time being a professional athlete. This isn’t complicated.”
Part of Nadal’s loss of muscle mass may be due to the foot injury he has been suffering from for many years. He recently revealed he was diagnosed with Muller-Weiss Syndrome, a rare degenerative foot condition which causes the collapse of the tarsal navicular bone, causing it to deform over time.
This may be affecting Nadal’s ability to maintain shape as he is not able to push his body in training. It may also be beneficial to carry less muscle as it puts less weight and stress on his foot.

Man Utd Officials Jet Out To Italy to Complete Second Transfer
Manchester United certainly have plenty of irons in the fire when it comes to midfielder signings in the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils have been linked with a number of high-profile stars and that’s before the summer window has even opened, with new permanent manager eyeing up two central midfielder signings before looking at the rest of his squad depth.
And it looks like they have settled on their first signing of the summer already in Atalanta’s Ederson.
United have been in advanced talks with the Brazilian for a number of days now and it emerged on Wednesda that a fee of just under €45million (£39million) was close to being agreed between the two clubs and that a deal could be completed quickly before the World Cup kicks off because personal terms have already been agreed with the player over a five-year contract at Old Trafford.
United ready to move on to next name on transfer shortlist
GIVEMESPORT reported on Monday that United officials had jetted out to Italy to finalise talks with Atalanta over the move, but it seems they may not only have been there for Ederson.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United chiefs will have been talking to Sandro Tonali’s representatives about a transfer too.
Newcastle United midfielder Tonali is another name on the Man Utd shortlist of midfielders, although there was a feeling that the transfer fee and wages demands might put United off concluding a deal.
The rumours have not gone away, however, and Romano said: “Man United basically what they did is fly to Italy with the delegation to start conversations on several topics, don’t forget that, for example, the agents of Tonali are in Italy, and there are more things they can discuss, for example, exits for the summer transfer window.
“So, Man United had several meetings, we know they are always very active in the Italian market.”
As reported on Wednesday by CalcioMercato, United were ready to ‘go all in’ to sign Tonali, with the outlet describing the 26-year-old as being ‘on his way’ to joining the club.
Elliot Anderson has been United’s number one priority
United could make the £86million move to sign Tonali if they pull out of talks to sign their number one target Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest, who is understood to be commanding a £100million fee this summer.
The Mirror reported on Wednesday that United were ready to complete a u-turn and pull the plug on their plans to sign Anderson, which would leave them with the money to spend on Ederson and Tonali, with GMS sources understanding United have placed a £140million to £150million figure on improving their midfield with two new signings.
Newcastle will have to sell one or two high-profile players this summer, with Anthony Gordon already on his way out with a deal agreed to take him to Barcelona.
