Police recover 329 rustled cattle after gun battle with bandits in Zamfara
The Zamfara State Police Command has recovered 329 rustled cattle following a fierce gun battle with armed bandits in Gummi Local Government Area of the state.
The development was contained in a post shared on X on Saturday by security analyst Zagazola Makama.
According to the post, the operation was carried out by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) in collaboration with military personnel.
The joint security team was said to have acted on credible intelligence about the movement of armed bandits in Gambanda Forest on June 20 at about 2:30 am.
“The criminals were forced to abandon the rustled livestock due to superior firepower and coordinated response from the security operatives,” the source said.
During the operation, the team successfully recovered 329 cattle and 175 sheep earlier rustled by the bandits.
“One AK-47 rifle and 15 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition were also recovered at the scene,” Makama added.

Delta govt convicts 23 traffic offenders, acquits three others
A Mobile Court in Delta State has convicted twenty-three persons for traffic offences and ordered them to pay a fine commensurate with their respective offences, just as it discharged and acquitted three others.
The Delta State Police Command disclosed this in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe.
The Police Image maker said conviction follows the statewide enforcement of traffic regulations by the Delta State Police Command.
He said,”Twenty-six(26 vehicles were arrested for various traffic-related offences and subsequently charged before the Mobile Court provided by the Delta State Government for immediate adjudication.”
According to SP Edafe, “The enforcement exercise, which is being conducted in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police and the commitment of the Command to promoting road safety, public order, and compliance with extant laws, is aimed at addressing traffic violations that endanger lives and compromise the orderly use of the roads.
“At the conclusion of the court proceedings, twenty-three (23) offenders were convicted and ordered to pay fines commensurate with their respective offences, while three (3) others were discharged and acquitted.
He explained that, “The outcome reflects the Command’s determination to ensure strict compliance with traffic regulations through lawful and transparent enforcement measures.”
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reiterated the command’s resolve to sustain the exercise across the State and warned that violators of traffic laws would continue to face appropriate legal sanctions.
He urged motorists to ensure that their vehicles are properly registered and documented and to comply with all traffic regulations at all times.

Five killed, eight rescued in Ibadan accident
Five bodies have been recovered from a scene of an accident involving multiple vehicles in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
DAILY POST gathered that eight people were also rescued from the scene.
Our correspondent learnt that the incident occurred Friday evening around Satguru Mahraji Ji village along the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway.
DAILY POST gathered that the accident involved six trucks, two Toyota Hilux vans and two cars.
It was learnt that the one of the trucks collided with a truck parked on the road, leading to a collision which claimed five people.
Those rescued have been rushed to hospital for medical attention.
Chairman, Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident.
Akinwande explained that the accident was as a result of break failure.
He said, “Upon arrival, we discovered that the accident involved six trucks (gas tankers and trailer trucks) and two cars, resulting in a fire outbreak.
“Five persons recovered and eight rescued, handed over to the team of FRSC led by SRC Adegbite from Toll-Gate, Ibadan for further medical attention in the nearest hospital.
“The incident was a result of break failure.”

Police detain popular Kano TikToker over boyfriend’s death
Police in Kano State have detained a popular TikTok personality, Fati Cele, following the death of her boyfriend, Isma’il Makaye, at her residence in circumstances that are currently under investigation.
Fati Cele, a native of Borno State, resides in a rented apartment in the Danbare area of Kano and commands a sizeable following on TikTok, where she has more than 32,000 followers.
A close associate of the deceased alleged that the TikTok star emerged from her house shouting that there was a fire, prompting neighbours to rush to the scene.
“When people entered the house, they found Isma’il with burn injuries and traces of blood on his body,” the source claimed, adding that efforts were made to save him by rushing him to Nassarawa Hospital.
The source further disclosed that officers attached to the Dorayi Babba Police Division subsequently took Cele into custody as part of an ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Friends of the deceased and acquaintances of the TikTok personality told reporters in Kano that the lovebirds had experienced relationship challenges in the past and had reportedly separated before recently reconciling.
Makaye, a cosmetics trader who lived in the Hotoro Tishama area of Kano, was later buried at Unguwa Uku Yan Awaki after his remains were released for funeral rites, according to family associates.
However, police authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the matter as of the time of filing this report.
