This Creative Ankara Design Is Everything We Love About the Handkerchief Trend

Published

on

Some trends become popular because they’re easy to wear. Others stand out because they inspire fresh ideas. This Ankara look falls into the second category. At a time when handkerchief skirts are everywhere, this design shows just how creative the trend can be. The uneven hem adds beautiful movement to the dress, creating a flowing effect with every step. Instead of looking ordinary, the skirt brings a bold and eye-catching touch that immediately draws attention.

The Ankara print also helps make the outfit special. The rich black and gold pattern gives the dress a strong visual appeal, while the way the fabric is arranged helps highlight the design from top to bottom. Every part of the outfit feels carefully planned, making the look stylish without feeling too busy.

What makes this outfit work so well is the balance between drama and elegance. The fitted waist creates shape, while the flowing skirt adds volume and movement. The halter neckline and ruffle details add a soft touch, making the entire look feel polished and modern.

Beyond the trend itself, this outfit is a great example of how Ankara fashion continues to evolve. It takes a popular style and gives it a fresh twist through African prints and creative design. The result is a look that feels fashionable, unique, and full of personality.

This is the kind of outfit that reminds us that fashion is not just about following trends. It’s about finding new ways to wear them and making them feel exciting again. And this Ankara handkerchief dress does exactly that.

The United Kingdom has announced the appointment of Peter Vowles as its new British High Commissioner to Nigeria, marking the beginning of a new chapter in UK–Nigeria diplomatic relations. Vowles will succeed Richard Montgomery CMG and is expected to officially assume office in September 2026.

Reacting to the announcement on X, Vowles expressed his enthusiasm about the new role, stating that he is “absolutely delighted” to be appointed British High Commissioner to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Vowles brings to the position an extensive diplomatic and development career spanning more than two decades across Africa, Asia, and other regions. His appointment reflects a wealth of experience in international development, governance, and diplomacy, making him one of the United Kingdom’s most seasoned foreign service officials.

Before his appointment to Nigeria, Vowles served as His Majesty’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe from 2023. Before that, he was Transformation Director at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) between 2022 and 2023. He also served as HM Ambassador to Myanmar from 2021 to 2022, overseeing the UK’s diplomatic engagement during a critical period in the country’s history.

Throughout his career at the FCDO, Vowles has held several senior leadership positions, including Transformation Director, Director for Asia, Caribbean and Overseas Territories, and Head of Programme Delivery. His experience also includes significant development work in Africa, where he served as the Department for International Development (DFID) Country Director in Kenya and Deputy DFID Country Director in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

His relationship with Africa dates back to the early 1990s. Between 1992 and 1993, he worked in Zimbabwe as a teacher with the Ministry of Education, Sport and Culture. He later returned to the country as a Policy and Programme Manager with Students Partnership Worldwide, serving from 1996 to 1999.

Beyond Africa, Vowles has worked extensively in Bangladesh, India, and Afghanistan, leading initiatives focused on health, governance, international development, and global partnerships. These experiences have helped shape his reputation as a diplomat with deep expertise in development cooperation and international relations.

As he prepares to take up his post in September 2026, Vowles is expected to play a key role in strengthening the long-standing relationship between the United Kingdom and Nigeria, with a focus on diplomacy, trade, development cooperation, and shared strategic interests.

His appointment comes at a time when both countries continue to deepen bilateral engagement across economic, security, and cultural sectors, positioning him to build on existing partnerships and explore new opportunities for collaboration.

This Ankara Look Is Too Good to Stay Off Your Mood Board

Ankara has remained a fashion favorite for generations because it offers something few fabrics can, endless room for creativity. Beyond its vibrant colors, it is the patterns, motifs, and artistic details that allow designers to tell stories, create visual interest, and turn fabric into wearable art. When those patterns are thoughtfully placed, an Ankara outfit becomes more than just clothing; it becomes a statement.

This look is a perfect example of that artistry in action. Instead of the usual embellishments, the design allows the Ankara pattern to shape the entire visual experience. The leaf-inspired motifs are carefully positioned across the neckline, skirt, and edge, creating a sense of flow that naturally guides the eye through the outfit. Each part feels connected, making the look appear intentional from every angle.

The deep navy blouse plays an equally important role. Its structured shape creates a clean foundation that balances the boldness of the print, while the soft bell sleeves introduce elegance. Together, they create a silhouette that feels refined yet striking.

Even more captivating is the way the leaf motifs appear almost three-dimensional. They create texture, depth, and a sense of craftsmanship that elevates the outfit beyond a traditional Ankara look.

For anyone with a wedding, engagement celebration, owambe, or special event on the calendar, this look offers a masterclass in making an entrance without sacrificing elegance.

If your goal is to stand out while still looking polished and timeless, this is the kind of inspiration worth saving for your next occasion.

Zendaya and Tom Holland have once again captured the spotlight, making their first red-carpet appearance together as husband and wife at the Spider-Man: Brand New Day photo call in Madrid.

The appearance marked a significant moment for the couple, who have become one of Hollywood’s most recognizable yet intensely private pairs. It was also their first public red-carpet outing together since October 2024, drawing attention from fans eager to see the duo reunite during the promotional campaign for the latest Spider-Man installment.

In a 2024 interview with British Vogue, Zendaya reflected on the dramatic changes that came with Holland’s rise to global fame after the pair met while filming Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2016.

One day you’re a kid, and you’re at the pub with your friends, and then the next day you’re Spider-Man,” she said, noting how quickly Holland’s life changed following his casting as the beloved Marvel superhero.

We were both very, very young, but my career was already kind of going, and his changed overnight,” she added. “He handled it really beautifully.”

At the Madrid event, both stars appeared to subtly embrace the Spider-Man theme through their fashion choices. Holland opted for sharp black tailoring by Jacquemus, paired with a striking red shirt that echoed the superhero’s signature color scheme.

Zendaya, meanwhile, wore a black Christian Cowan mini dress complemented by Christian Louboutin heels, whose iconic red soles provided another nod to Spider-Man’s trademark palette. Her look also featured an asymmetrical fringe detail, a design element that drew comparisons to the movement and silhouette of spider legs.

The appearance also showcased Zendaya’s continued mastery of “method dressing,” a red-carpet trend she helped popularize alongside longtime stylist Law Roach by incorporating subtle references to the projects she is promoting into her wardrobe choices.

The couple’s public appearances are expected to increase in the coming months as they embark on a busy promotional schedule. In addition to Spider-Man: Brand New Day, both stars are set to appear in Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated epic The Odyssey, ensuring they will remain at the center of Hollywood’s attention.

For a pair known for carefully guarding their private lives, the dual press tours promise to offer fans rare glimpses of one of the entertainment industry’s most talked-about partnerships—both on and off screen.
