15 Best Brazilian Footballers Right Now [Ranked]
Brazil is arguably the most football-obsessed nation on earth. While financial, infrastructural, and environmental factors prevent the widespread participation of 11-a-side amateur football up and down South America’s most populated nation, Brazilian natives are forced to find creative ways to enjoy the beautiful game.
The Selecao have won the FIFA World Cup on five occasions – more than any other nation – and has developed a plethora of world-class talents who’ve dominated the South American, European, and the international game across history, including the legendary Pele, the step-over king Ronaldo Nazario, and the former Ballon d’Or winner Kaka.
Despite not winning a World Cup since 2002, there’s no shortage of current superstars in the Brazilian national team – including a few Ballon d’Or front-runners. Here are the 15 best Selecao stars in the world right now.

Ederson
Fenerbahce
Goalkeepers haven’t always been allowed to play with the creativity and freedom synonymous with Brazilian outfield players. But as more emphasis has been placed on the goalkeeper’s involvement in build-up play in recent years, it’s no surprise to see a Brazilian among the very best at distributing the ball through opposition forward lines into midfield.
Ederson’s composure, passing, and, let’s not forget, elite shot-stopping skills were pivotal in the six Premier League titles Manchester City won during the the Brazilian’s time playing for Pep Guardiola‘s side, but he has often been overshadowed by his Liverpool counterpart, Alisson Becker. Despite that, there is no doubting the former Benfica’s deserved place on this list.

Rayan
Bournemouth
After starring for Vasco da Gama, Rayan made the switch to England, where he made waves at the unlikely destination of Bournemouth. A key figure for the Selecao’s youth teams, with whom he won an U-20 South American Championship, the rangy winger made a step up to the senior team in 2026 and has seen his value skyrocket as a result.
Rayan was thrust into the spotlight at the 2026 World Cup when he had to deputise for the injured Raphinha, but he accepted the responsibility with minimal fuss and demonstrated his value as an incisive winger.

Igor Thiago
Bournemouth
Something of a late bloomer, Igor Thiago’s sensational form in the Premier League propelled him straight into Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil squad for the 2026 World Cup. The towering Brentford striker scored 25 goals in all competitions in 2025/26, including 22 in what is widely considered the best league in the world.
While he is not necessarily a starter for Brazil and perhaps something of a system player, Thiago has shown his capacity for scoring with goals for the national team in friendly matches against Croatia and Panama.

Neymar Jr
Santos
Neymar has not necessarily one of the top-performing Brazilians during the last few seasons. The era-defining winger disappointed some of his supporters by opting for an early move away from elite-level football, to join Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hilal in what turned out to be a disastrous move. But there are few, or perhaps only Argentina’s Lionel Messi, active footballers who are capable of manipulating defenders, controlling the ball, and producing moments of wonder in the way that Neymar is capable of.
Neymar at the World Cup: Brazil Star’s Stats, Record & Complete History
How has the former Barcelona and PSG attacker fared at the World Cup over the years?
Injuries have, unfortunately, hampered the twilight period of his illustrious career but now back at boyhood club Santos, the winger appears to be finding his groove again, which is evidenced by the fact that he has been back in the Brazil fold, even being named in the 2026 World Cup squad.

Ederson S.
Atalanta
While he has had to be patient due to the late-career resurgence of Casemiro, Ederson S. is nicely primed to step into the defensive midfield role for Brazil, having honed his craft over a number of seasons with Atalanta.
Next Rodri: Man Utd Want £60.5m Midfield Star After Ederson
Manchester United are in the market for midfielders, with a former Manchester City academy player in their sights.
Dubbed by various media outlets as ‘the next Rodri’, Ederson is an all-action midfielder with impressive tactical awareness and such athleticism combined with intelligence is the sort of thing that winning teams are built on. His career for Brazil will undoubtedly blossom in the coming years if his impressive form at club level is any indicator.

Casemiro
Free Agent
Few world-class players have had to put up with the level of criticism and scrutiny that Casemiro has, but he continues to make his detractors eat their words. In 2024, former Liverpool and England defender Jamie Carragher infamously told the Brazilian midfielder to “leave the football before the football leaves you”, effectively telling the then-32-year-old to retire.
However, since then, Casemiro was key to Manchester United’s third-place Premier League finish in 2025/26 and remains a crucial cog in Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil team, scoring an important goal and earning a player-of-the-match award in the 2026 World Cup knockout stage game against Japan. His career will likely wind down quickly from here on, but at this moment, he remains one of his country’s best players.

Endrick
Real Madrid
Much is still being learned about the most exciting teenage talent coming out of Brazil, Endrick. The striker’s posture, physical appearance, and eye for goal have drawn comparisons to none other than the country’s legendary goalscorer, Pele. Those are some big shoes to fill. So far, Endrick, who has been tipped for greatness since his early teens, has made – despite a lack of minutes – a seamless transition into men’s professional football.
Who is Real Madrid Sensation Endrick
Endrick has emerged as one of Brazilian football’s best ever talents, securing a move to La Liga giants Real Madrid.
Now 19, the talented teen showed flashes of quality in his debut season at Real Madrid, but went on loan in Ligue 1 to Lyon in search of regular minutes. While in France, Endrick’s form earned him a call-up to the Brazil squad for the 2026 World Cup and, though he is not a nailed-on starter, he has made an impact. The striker recorded an impressive three goals in his opening five Brazil appearances – but has failed to kick on since. Whether or not Endrick is a player who will go down in the legend books remains to be seen, but Brazilian natives have incredibly high expectations of the 19-year-old.

Gabriel Martinelli
Arsenal
It can be easy to forget that Gabriel Martinelli, who already has over 60 Arsenal goals to his name in all competitions, is still only 25. The Brazil and Gunners forwards’ electric pace, strength, and ruthless ability inside the opposition’s penalty box has made him one of the most feared attackers in the Premier League.
Martinelli, whose direct approach feels slightly reminiscent of a young Cristiano Ronaldo, feels destined for a long career at the top level. The young forward hasn’t had a sustained run of games for the national team yet, but did earn a call-up to the national team for Copa America. Injuries once again somewhat disrupted recent seasons, but he will be eager to build on a title-winning campaign in 2026/27.

Matheus Cunha
Manchester United
Having shone for Atletico Madrid and Wolves, Matheus Cunha took his game up another level when he joined Manchester United ahead of the 2025/26 season, chipping in with his fair share of goals for the Red Devils are they mounted a credible campaign. His form for United coincided with an increased responsibility for Brazil and his performances at the 2026 World Cup have helped to cement his place in the team.
Cunha’s personality – as expressed through his penchant for skill and elaborate ‘Samba Surfer’ goal celebration – is exactly what you’d expect from a top class Brazilian player and it has been encouraged by both Michael Carrick and Carlo Ancelotti.

Bruno Guimaraes
Newcastle United
Bruno Guimaraes has been among the top performing midfielders in the Premier League over the last couple of seasons. Newcastle United’s man has great positional awareness, is strong defensively and accomplished on the ball, which is why Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola was so desperate to add the Brazilian to his midfield.
Bruno Guimaraes ‘Could Have His Head Turned’ at Newcastle
Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes’ future is uncertain, and failure to qualify for the Champions League could test his loyalty.
He remained on Tyneside, however, and has continued to prove why a litany of Premier League clubs are sniffing around his signature amid his employers’ PSR concerns. Particularly across the year of 2024, Guimaraes has established himself as Brazil’s predominant holding midfielder and he has remained there ever since, providing athleticism to complement Casemiro’s experience.

Tottenham Handed Boost To Complete Tonali Transfer
Tottenham have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Sandro Tonali this summer.
Spurs have had a busy start to the summer transfer window, signing three new defenders and bringing in a goalkeeper already and they are not done there.
Head coach Roberto De Zerbi has moved his transfer business further up the pitch, with Tottenham in talks to sign both Tonali and West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes.
Tottenham have already had an offer in the region of £75million rejected by Newcastle for the Italian and the Lilywhites are preparing to go back in with a new offer for the 26-year-old.
Spurs have already agreed terms with Tonali
Reports have suggested that personal terms will not be an issue, with Tottenham reportedly already agreeing to a £200,000-a-week contract with Tonali.
However, the biggest problem – aside from agreeing a fee with Newcastle – appeared to be the competition Spurs would face in trying to complete a deal.
Manchester City have also been linked with a move for Tonali, although their initial focus was on getting a deal over the line to sign Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest.
That transfer finally looks set to go through, after City agreed on a £116million move to sign Anderson, with add-ons taking that figure past the British transfer record Liverpool paid Newcastle for Alexander Isak last summer.

With question marks over the long-term future of Rodri at the Etihad Stadium, City, under new manager Enzo Maresca, will be looking for added reinforcements and Tonali is seen as the perfect candidate, despite the similarly large price tag on his shoulders compared with Anderson.
City are keen to have conversations with Newcastle over a move to sign Tonali, with an offer in the region of £95million being readied by the Citizens, according to Spanish publication Marca.
Man City plot alternative transfer move
However, City may well have turned their attentions elsewhere, due to Spurs’ long-standing pursuit of Tonali.
According to the Athletic, City are now looking at making a move to sign Ayyoub Bouaddi, the 18-year-old Moroccan who has been shining at the 2026 World Cup in America, Canada and Mexico so far this summer.
The Athletic report states that “Sandro Tonali is of interest but he has an offer from Tottenham – which is another factor influencing the interest in Bouaddi”.
Spurs will be keen to get Tonali to sign on the dotted ine and continue the transfer revolution going on under De Zerbi.

Iran Slam ‘One of Donald Trump’s Key Allies’ For Comments After Their World Cup Exit
Iran have posted a statement hitting out at US Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin for his comments after their World Cup exit.
Iran’s time at this year’s tournament in North America came to an end last weekend in dramatic fashion. After draws against Belgium and New Zealand, Team Melli knew a victory over Egypt in their final group match on Saturday would see them progress to the last 32.
Amir Ghalenoei’s side thought they had scored a last-gasp winner at Seattle Stadium when Shoja Khalilzadeh found the back of the net. The goal was chalked off for the tightest of offside calls, though, meaning they had to settle for a draw.
Despite that disappointment, Iran still had a chance of progressing as one of the eight best-performing third-placed sides. However, they were knocked out of the competition after Austria’s 96th minute equaliser against Algeria.
‘One of Donald Trump’s Key Allies’ Celebrates Iran’s World Cup Exit
Iran’s football team has faced multiple hardships during this summer’s World Cup amid the war between the two countries.
While Iran were allowed to play their matches in the United States, they were not allowed to stay in the country for a prolonged period and were forced to travel to and from Mexico in between games.
Iran lodged an official complaint to FIFA due to their travel issues, with head coach Amir Ghalenoei describing themselves as ‘the most oppressed’ team at the World Cup, while captain Mehdi Terami also hit out at FIFA and the United States for the hardships they were forced to endure.
Mullin, described as ‘one of Donald Trump’s key allies, has now expressed his relief at Iran’s group stage elimination in a World Cup briefing at the government’s Special Event Coordination Centre on Monday. He told reporters, per the Telegraph:
“I’m just glad they’re [Iran] done, and they’re not coming back. I was so happy when we were able to pull their visas and said they could leave the US soil, and I might’ve sung a song or two or maybe even danced a happy dance. I’m very happy they’re going back because there wasn’t a single team that we dealt with more than them.”

Iran Hit Out at Mullin
Iran have not reacted well to Mullin’s comments. An official for the FFIRI said: “Iranians are used to the mistreatment and lies of US officials, so no one in Iran is surprised by these hostile remarks.
“These remarks once again demonstrate that U.S. officials have no commitment to international law or the principles expected of a host nation capable of organising a global sporting event.
“The fact that he openly celebrates Iran’s elimination says far more about him than it does about our team. It reflects a level of pettiness that cannot even tolerate the presence of a football team competing on the world’s biggest stage.
“After our match against New Zealand, our head coach [Amir Ghalenoei] said that the United States did not want Iran to remain in this tournament because of the inhumane and unprofessional treatment our team experienced. These latest comments only reinforce that belief.”

Cristian Orozco Set to Undergo Man Utd Medical
Manchester United are pushing to sign multiple midfielders in the summer transfer window, and one has now travelled to Manchester in order to undergo a medical ahead of a move.
The Red Devils are in the market for midfielders, and they have reached a full agreement to sign Atalanta star Ederson in the summer transfer window.
It appears that the Brazilian international isn’t the only midfielder who is going to be arriving through the door at Old Trafford before the window closes in September.
The Manchester club are heavily focusing on reinforcements in the middle of the park after Casemiro left the club earlier this summer.
An injury to Manuel Ugarte isn’t going to impact their plans, according to David Ornstein, with Mateus Fernandes their immediate priority.

Midfielder Heads to Man Utd for Medical
According to a report from The Athletic, young midfielder Cristian Orozco has travelled to Manchester to undergo a medical at Manchester United ahead of his move from Fortaleza CF.
The 17-year-old will officially become a United player when he turns 18 next month, with a deal agreed back in September.
The youngster turns 18 in July, and he’s represented Colombia at under-17 level, playing his domestic football in the Colombian top flight.
Orozco is unlikely to come in and become a first-team signing for United at the moment, considering his age. There’s no doubt they’re likely to sign another midfielder this summer.
It looks set to be a busy few weeks for United as they look to get multiple deals over the line.

Man Utd Leading Fernandes Race
Manchester United are reportedly leading the race to sign West Ham midfielder Fernandes despite strong interest from Tottenham.
Both clubs are in the race to secure the signature of Fernandes, and the Portuguese midfielder is seemingly keen on a move to either club.
Alongside strengthening the first team, United are also looking to improve their academy as they aim to head back in the right direction after a difficult few years.
There was a vast improvement in the second half of last season, but there’s no doubt they still need to go to the next level.
Fernandes would certainly help improve their starting XI, giving them fresh options ahead of a season in the Champions League.
