The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Enugu Zonal Directorate, has arraigned one Chukwuebuka Ogbonna before Justice Vincent C. Ezeugwu of the Enugu State High Court.

Ogbonna was arraigned on a four-count charge bordering on stealing by conversion to the tune of N15, 400, 000.

The court said that the offence is contrary to Section 342 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap 30, Enugu State and punishable under Section 353 (1) of the same Law.

Meanwhile, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read to him.

In view of his plea, counsel to the EFCC, Rotimi Ajobiewe, prayed the court for a trial date and for the defendant to be remanded at the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service, NCoS, in Enugu.

The matter was thereafter adjourned to July 16, 2026 for hearing of bail application and the defendant was remanded at the Commission’s facility.

The defendant was arrested, following claims of a petitioner that he paid him N15.4m,  sometime in October 2023,   to assist him in importing three cars.

On receipt of the money, the defendant promised to deliver the cars on or before December 25, 2023, but failed to do so.

He neither delivered the cars nor returned the money to the petitioner.

Magistrate Court No. 2 in Kano has commenced hearing in the case filed by the Kano State Government against TikToker Fatima Abdullahi, popularly known as Fati Cele, over the alleged murder of her boyfriend, Isma’il Sidi, also known as Isma’il Buzu.

During proceedings before Chief Magistrate Auwal Yusuf Sulaiman on Thursday, the charge was read to the defendant, who pleaded not guilty.

The prosecution counsel, Barrister Muhammad Aliyu Umar, asked the court to adjourn the matter for further hearing. However, counsel to the defendant applied for bail, arguing that Fatima was suffering from injuries sustained from burns to her hands, legs and face and required medical attention.

Opposing the application, the prosecution argued that the magistrate court lacked jurisdiction to grant bail in the case.

“The court does not have the jurisdiction to grant bail in this matter, and there are medical personnel available to attend to her at the correctional facility,” the prosecution counsel told the court.

The court adjourned the case until July 20, 2026, for further consideration and ordered that the defendant remain in custody while receiving appropriate medical care.

According to the police investigation, Fatima and the deceased allegedly had a violent altercation on the day of the incident, during which she was accused of striking him with an object, causing severe bleeding.

Investigators further alleged that she set the house on fire in an attempt to destroy evidence and obstruct the investigation.

The Delta State Police Command has arrested a commercial motorcyclist, Kelvin Ogaga, for allegedly kidnapping a three-year-old girl entrusted to his care.

It was learnt that the suspect, Ogaga, collected N500,000 as ransom from the child’s family to release the toddler.

The Delta Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed the arrest in a video shared on Thursday.

According to Edafe, the suspect had been hired by the child’s parents to take her to and from school for a monthly fee of N10,000.

He reportedly carried out the assignment for about three weeks before abducting the girl instead of taking her to school.

The suspect, to avoid suspicion, switched off his personal phone but used a different phone number to contact the family and initially demanded a ransom of N2 million.

Despite threats that the child would be killed if the police were informed, the family reported the incident to the authorities.

The ransom demand was later reduced to N500,000, which the family paid before the child was released unharmed.

Following an intelligence-led investigation, police arrested the suspect and recovered part of the ransom money.

While being questioned, Ogaga confessed to the crime, claiming he was persuaded by a friend identified as ‘Omo’ to engage in the crime due to financial hardship.

He also alleged that his girlfriend was aware of the kidnapping plan.

Edafe said efforts were ongoing to arrest other suspects connected to the crime.

The police spokesperson advised parents and guardians to thoroughly verify the backgrounds of people entrusted with the care and transportation of their children.

“The good part is that the child is safe, the suspect has been arrested, and part of the ransom money has been recovered,” Edafe stated.
