Man Utd Have ‘Agreement’ to Buy ‘excellent’ Andrey Santos
Manchester United are said to have struck a deal to snatch a Chelsea talent, and their midfield business may not be over yet. The Red Devils have been searching for a replacement for Casemiro, who left the club this summer, and Michael Carrick wants that second midfielder to add to the agreement to sign Ederson. Ederson was effectively snapped up early in the summer, but the deal hasn’t quite gone through due to United requesting a second medical.
Carrick has been looking for a holding or a hybrid midfielder, and the latter seems to be his preference given United chased – and ultimately failed to land – West Ham star Mateus Fernandes. And the Red Devils may have now found their man.
Man Utd agree Andrey Santos deal
According to David Ornstein, United have now agreed a deal to sign Chelsea midfielder Andrey Santos. He posted on X: “EXCL: Manchester United reach agreement with Chelsea to sign Andrey Santos. Deal for 22yo #CFC midfielder worth £48m + £2m easily achievable add-ons & 10% sell-on clause. Permission given to undergo #MUFC medical; personal terms in place”
The report adds that United have won the race despite interest from ‘multiple suitors’ this summer. Chelsea are said to value Santos, but the Brazilian wants to be a more regular starter, and he is more likely to find them at United.
Santos is of a similar profile to Fernandes in that he can play as a number 6 or a number 8, and even as a combination of the both. He can do the defensive work and carry the ball into attacking areas, and he is every bit the modern hybrid midfielder.
Santos an ‘excellent’ and versatile midfielder
Former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca praised Santo’s versatility early last season, when he said after one win: “Andrey was excellent. His position is the position he played today. With us most of the time he has been playing a little bit higher, in the pocket. In that [deeper] position we have Moi, so we try to find solutions for Andrey. We are aware his position is the one he played today.”
While United may now be on their way to signing two midfielders, The Athletic report suggests the Red Devils will sign a third, who is likely to be a more experienced figure, given they are on track to sign two younger players. Casemiro’s presence and experience has been vital for United over the last couple of years, in particular, and it needs to be properly replaced ahead of a Champions League campaign.

Man Utd Eyeing Move to Sign Sunderland Star Brian Brobbey
Manchester United are prioritising a move to bolster their midfield this summer, but now they are eyeing a striker signing, according to Football Insider.
The Red Devils missed out on top targets Elliot Anderson and Matheus Fernandes after being gazumped by Man City and Tottenham Hotspur, respectively, but INEOS have responded by sealing agreements to sign Brazilian pair Ederson and Chelsea star Andrey Santos.
Now the club are looking at other positions that need strengthening, and that has seen them take a look at a potential addition in attack to provide competition and depth for Benjamin Sesko.
Man Utd Eye Surprise Move for Brian Brobbey
According to a report, Man Utd are eyeing up a move to sign Sunderland striker Brian Brobbey this summer after his impressive campaign.
Brobbey, who Roy Keane has described as a ‘top striker’, established himself as the starting striker at the Stadium of Light following his move from Ajax last summer, and scored seven goals in 31 appearances in the Premier League, which earned him a place in the Netherlands squad at the World Cup. His form continued there, as he scored three goals in three appearances, before the team were eliminated at the Round of 32 on penalties against Morocco.
United are understood to have been impressed by his performances, and are reportedly considering a move for the 24-year-old to move to Old Trafford.
Sunderland are adamant they don’t want to part ways with their star forward, having secured Europa League football for the 2026/27 season, and they remain confident that they will be able to keep hold of him despite the interest.
The Red Devils are understood to have a number of options on their shortlist, including Brobbey, but the Black Cats are planning to make it incredibly difficult for him to leave, which could see this become a non-starter of a saga.

Striker Needed at Man Utd
Man Utd’s current striker options consist of Sesko and Joshua Zirkzee, with Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, Marcus Rashford, and youngster Chido Obi all capable of filling in if necessary.
But Zirkzee looks more likely to leave than stay this summer, as does Rashford, and Chido would likely benefit more from a loan away to play regularly at this stage of his development. That means a natural number nine signing would make sense, and Brobbey would fit in well.
But Sunderland have shown they are no pushovers with the saga concerning Granit Xhaka and Chelsea this summer, so Man Utd must be firm if they want to get this deal done. The chances are, that if a striker does arrive this summer, it won’t be Brobbey.

Christian Pulisic Issues Statement Amid Backlash After USMNT World Cup Exit
Christian Pulisic has broken his silence after being heavily criticised by several former United States stars following the USMNT’s 2026 World Cup elimination.
The USA impressed during the group stages, finishing top of Group D, before securing a 2-0 win over Bosnia & Herzegovina in the Round of 32.
Their World Cup leading goalscorer Folarin Balogun was controversially cleared to play in the last 16 against Belgium, despite being sent off in the previous round, after US President Donald Trump personally intervened.
However, Balogun was powerless to prevent the USMNT slumping to a heavy 4-1 defeat at the Seattle Stadium.
Pulisic Slammed by Former US Soccer Stars
Pulisic, the team’s star man, has received the most criticism of any USMTN player in the aftermath of the defeat. The AC Milan forward was on the pitch for 59 underwhelming minutes before being substituted moments after Belgium had taken a 3-1 lead.
“You wanted some of the big time players to step up in big moments, and I’ve got to be honest, I was a bit disappointed in Christian Pulisic,” Carli Lloyd, capped 316 times by the USWNT, said on FOX Sports. “I think, whether he wants to be the star of this team or not, we didn’t see enough from him in this particular game and really the whole World Cup.”
And after Pulisic said “now I get time to rest” in an interview after spraining his ankle during the defeat, Lloyd wrote on X (Twitter): “You rest when your playing career is over. Period.”
Meanwhile, former USA goalkeeper Tim Howard said he could give “very direct answers” if asked about Pulisic’s status as a top-level footballer.
And Landon Donovan, the USMNT’s second-most capped player with 157 appearances between 2000-2014, stuck the boot in further by delivering a brutal takedown of Pulisic’s conduct off the pitch.
“This is an opportunity to help and to change your life forever,” Donovan said. “One of the biggest problems – I speak to people who are at U.S. Soccer. I speak to his sponsors. I speak to his teammates. I speak to the staff and the coaches. People are fed up with the way things are handled around him. And it’s not necessarily him, but it’s his agents, his family, his hangers-on, the people who are influencing. People are fed up with it.
“They treat people poorly. They do things poorly. It’s always a ‘no’ whenever you wanna ask, ‘Can we do an interview?’ It’s always a, ‘No, you can’t get near him.’ He doesn’t say ‘hi’ to the commentators who do all the games all the time when they walk by. All the other guys come over and shake hands and say, ‘Hello.’”
“There’s just this sense about him that you can’t get near him. And I actually don’t think it’s from him. I think it’s from I think it’s from the people around him.”
Donovan added that Pulisic now needs to “man up”. Watch the clip below:

Pulisic Releases Statement
Amid the backlash – which, in the eyes of some, has been a little extreme – Pulisic has issued a statement on Instagram, thanking fans for their support during the tournament and admitting “it simply wasn’t good enough from us in the end”.
“Tough to find the words,” he wrote. “I want to start by saying thank you to everyone who believed. The support carried us all the way through.
“It simply wasn’t good enough from us in the end and I wanted to deliver so much more.
“I still feel blessed to be a part of this team. The memories this summer will last a lifetime. It’s just the start for us and for this sport in America.”
Pulisic, 27, is currently the USMNT’s fifth all-time leading scorer with 33 goals. Only Clint Dempsey (57 goals), Landon Donovan (57 goals), Jozy Altidore (42 goals) and Eric Wynalda (34 goals) have more.

New Footage Showing Mo Salah’s Actions After Argentina 3-2 Egypt Emerges
Mohamed Salah’s Egypt side were knocked out of the 2026 World Cup in highly controversial circumstances on Tuesday evening.
The Pharaohs led 2-0 going into the final 15 minutes of the match, but they could not hold on as Argentina scored three late goals to send them out of the competition.
Egypt were not happy at all with some of the refereeing decisions made during the match. Egypt had a goal controversially ruled out in the second half, while they also thought Enzo Fernandez’s winner should have been disallowed and their side awarded a penalty for a foul on Salah in the build-up.
The African side couldn’t contain their emotions after they exited the competition. Mostafa Ziko said the tournament was ‘rigged’ for Argentina to win the World Cup, while manager Hossam Hassan echoed those thoughts and vowed to boycott the rest of the tournament.
Egypt have since made an official complaint to FIFA and released an extraordinary statement slamming the officials.
Mohamed Salah’s Actions At Full-Time
Salah, understandably, was crestfallen at his side’s defeat. At 34 years old, it is very likely that this summer’s competition was his last appearance at a World Cup.
New footage has now emerged showing the Liverpool legend’s actions after the final whistle. While Egypt’s coaching staff were losing their heads and his teammates were making their complaints known to the officials, Salah kept a level head and showed real class.
After shaking hands with Manchester United’s Lisandro Martinez, Salah made his way to the officials. Several of his teammates were complaining to the officials, but Salah put an end to that as he ushered them away.
Egypt’s captain, who has been capped 121 times by his country, then shook hands with the officials before walking away.
His actions have gone down well on Reddit. One fan said: “He’s one of the classiest people in sports, both on and off the pitch, respect to him,” while another commented: “Mo Salah continues to be one of the classiest guys in global sports.”
A third wrote: “It’s refreshing to see captains actually acting like the leaders they’re supposed to be,” while a fourth said: “Good lad, sometimes you lose and you need to take it on the chin. Proper sportsmanship.”

Ian Wright: Enzo Fernandez’s Winner Should’ve Been Disallowed
Ian Wright was adamant that Fernandez’s winner should have been disallowed and Egypt awarded a penalty. He said on ITV Sport:
“That’s what happening with VAR now, they’re pulling it back f you’re going to pull it back for Argentina on the edge of the box to disallow a goal, you have to pull it back for this one with Mo Salah.”
Wright added: “He’s been caught. Whatever we say, it might be minimal, he’s been caught and then they go up the other end.”
Argentina will face Switzerland in the last eight of the competition. Their match will take place at Kansas City Stadium on July 11.
Egypt, meanwhile, have returned home following their exit. Salah will now turn his attention to addressing his future. He left Liverpool this summer, and it is currently unclear where he will play his football next season.
