The Benue State Police Command has apprehended seven more suspects, including an 80-year-old man and four traditional rulers, over the murder of the state Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN, Alhaji Ardo Risku Mohammed.

Those arrested are Sylvester Ajonye, 80; Chief Morgan Ejaga, 43; Chief Moses Anteyi, 45; Chief John Ogli, 58; Chief Yawuhu Adaji, 49; Aba Alexander Uloko, 59; and Fidelis Iduma, 45.

The command confirmed the development in a statement issued on Saturday by its spokesperson, DSP Udeme Edet.

According to the statement, the latest arrests followed weeks of intelligence-driven operations, detailed investigations and coordinated tactical efforts by police operatives pursuing those linked to the killings.

“The Benue State Police Command has arrested an additional seven suspects in connection with the killing of the State Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, Alhaji Ardo Risku Mohammed, and Yakubu Isah.

“Following sustained intelligence gathering, painstaking investigation and continuous tactical operations, an additional seven suspects have been arrested in connection with the case.

“The arrests were made during intelligence-led operations by operatives of the Command in continuation of the investigation,” the statement said.

Benue Commissioner of Police, CP Cletus Nwadiogbu, praised the investigating and tactical teams for their commitment and professionalism, saying their operations have continued to produce encouraging results.

He stressed that the investigation remains active and assured that anyone found to have participated directly or indirectly in the killings would be tracked down and brought before the law.

The police commissioner also urged residents to remain peaceful and continue providing useful and timely information that could assist security agencies in concluding the investigation.

He reaffirmed the command’s resolve to secure justice for the victims while sustaining peace and public safety across Benue State.

Alhaji Ardo Risku Mohammed and his associate, Yakubu Isah, were murdered on June 26, 2026, after attending a peace meeting in Ohinmini Local Government Area.

The two men were reportedly ambushed by gunmen near Okpokwu in Otukpo Local Government Area while returning from the meeting.

Armed men suspected to be kidnappers on Thursday, shot one Al-haqq Shobakin in the chest and abducted two other residents in Kobape area of Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.

DAILY POST gathered that the incident happened at about 7 p.m.

Shobakin had gone to open the gate for one Olayinka Obadimu, who was going out. They were attacked by the kidnappers at the gate.

Obadimu on sighting the kidnappers drove off with speed while they were shooting and Shobakin was shot in the process.

The kidnappers then proceeded into the house were they abducted Kelvin Moyegun and Kehinde Rufai.

DAILY POST learnt that Shobakin is currently in the ICU receiving medical care at a private hospital in Abeokuta.

Confirming the incident on Friday, the Police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said operatives of the command had already been deployed to rescue the victims and arrest the hoodlums.

He said, “I can confirm that there was an abduction, and one person is currently in the hospital receiving medical care. 

“The command has deployed its operatives to rescue those who were abducted and also arrest the perpetrators.”

The Niger State Police Command has prosecuted several motorists after intercepting 82 vehicles during an ongoing statewide enforcement against unregistered vehicles, defaced number plates and illegal tinted glass.

The crackdown, which began on June 20, 2026, is part of the Inspector-General of Police’s directive to tighten security and curb crimes committed with vehicles whose identities are concealed.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said the operation targeted vehicles operating without registration number plates, with obscured or defaced plates, and those fitted with tinted glass in violation of the law.

He said while some motorists were cleared after screening, those found to have breached the law were investigated and arraigned before courts of competent jurisdiction.

According to the police, criminals often exploit unregistered vehicles, concealed number plates and tinted glass to evade detection while carrying out kidnappings, robberies and other crimes, making the enforcement critical to public safety.

Commissioner of Police, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, said the exercise was not meant to harass law-abiding residents but to strengthen intelligence gathering, improve vehicle identification and enhance the state’s security architecture.

He urged vehicle owners to ensure their vehicles are properly registered and display visible number plates at all times, warning that the enforcement would be sustained across the state.

The police also encouraged members of the public to report complaints or observations through the Command’s emergency lines for prompt intervention.
