Troops arrest four suspected illegal miners, recover equipment in Nasarawa
Troops of Operation MESA have arrested four suspected illegal miners and recovered several mining equipment during a raid on an illegal mining site in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
The operation was disclosed on Tuesday in a post shared on X by security analyst Zagazola Makama, who said the raid was carried out by troops of the 177 Guards Battalion deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Tattara.
According to the post, the operation took place at about 3:00 p.m. on Monday following credible intelligence on illegal mining activities at Saniyan Gitata in Karu LGA.
The troops reportedly stormed the site and arrested four suspects who were allegedly involved in unlawful mining operations.
“Items recovered during the raid included an industrial generator, three motorcycles, six shovels, three digging tools, 17 rubber basins, seven jerrycans, two mobile phones and an electric cable believed to have been used for the illegal mining activities,” Makama wrote.
Zagazola said the suspects and the recovered items are currently in military custody while investigations continue. They are expected to face legal action after the investigation is concluded.

Troops, DSS arrest four suspected terrorist collaborators in Kogi
Troops of the 12 Brigade and operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested four people suspected to be collaborating with terrorist groups in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The operation was disclosed in a post shared on X on Tuesday by security analyst, Zagazola Makama.
According to the post, the suspects were arrested during a joint operation carried out by troops stationed at the Kabba Patrol Base and DSS operatives.
Makama said the operation took place at about 12:11 p.m. on Monday at Light Hotel along the Odumo-Kabba Road following credible intelligence linking the suspects to activities connected with terrorist elements.
“The four suspects were arrested without incident and have since been handed over to the DSS for further investigation and possible prosecution,” Makama added.
According to the report, the operation is part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to dismantle terrorist support networks and improve security across Kogi State and neighbouring areas.

Bauchi police begin probe into death of man during alleged police interrogation in Misau
The Bauchi State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into the death of a 20-year-old man, Abdullahi Adamu, following allegations that he was assaulted by police operatives during interrogation in Misau Local Government Area.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, said the Command has become aware of reports circulating on social media, alleging that officers attached to a police outpost under the Misau Division assaulted the victim while questioning him over a case under investigation.
According to the statement, Abdullahi Adamu, a resident of Sebore Village in Hardawa District, was initially admitted to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Misau, before being referred to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, where he died while receiving treatment on Sunday, July 12, 2026.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, said the Command views issues of professionalism, respect for human rights, and due process with utmost seriousness.
“The Command takes issues of professionalism, respect for human rights, and due process very seriously,” the commissioner said.
He added that he had ordered an immediate and comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“The Command is committed to ensuring that justice is served and that appropriate disciplinary and legal actions will be taken against any personnel found culpable in accordance with the provisions of the law,” Aliyu stated.
The police commissioner also expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and prayed for the repose of his soul.
The Command appealed to members of the public with useful information that could assist the investigation to come forward.

Rivers: Troops recover assault rifle, ammunition in Obiakpor
Troops of Operation UDO KA have reportedly recovered an assault rifle and ammunition during a targeted raid on a suspected cultists’ hideout in Obiakpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Security expert, Zagazola Makama disclosed this in a report he posted on his official X handle on Tuesday.
Quoting intelligence sources, Makama said the operation was conducted at about on July 13 in Ogbogoro community by troops of 34 Artillery Brigade following actionable intelligence.
He said the sources revealed that a suspected cult member who had earlier been arrested led the troops to the hideout.
The security operatives recovered one Beretta AR-70 assault rifle and 45 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition.
The sources, according to Makama added that efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend other members of the criminal gang who fled the area.
