A staff of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC, has been electrocuted while repairing a fault on an electricity pole opposite the Federal Polytechnic Satellite Campus in Ado Ekiti, over the weekend.

This is the second incident in the area since 2012, when a staff under the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN, Samuel Isaac was electrocuted while also on duty.

According to report, the incident occurred opposite the Federal Polytechnic Satellite Campus, where the BEDC staff was working to restore power to residents in the area following a disruption.

According to eyewitnesses, the man was on top of the electric pole when he suddenly became weak and appeared disoriented.

His fellow BEDC staff were the first to assist him before operatives of the Ekiti State Fire and Emergency Service arrived to help bring him down from the pole Geographic Reference

He was thereafter rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

Hospital sources confirmed that he later died while receiving treatment.

More than 60 suspected bandits, including a notorious kingpin identified as Idi Abasu Aiki, were reportedly killed during an intelligence-led security operation in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State, following what authorities described as a planned reprisal attack on communities in the area.

The development was reported by security analyst Zagazola Makama.

According to the report, the operation was carried out by operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS, with support from members of the Katsina State Community Vigilantes and specially trained local hunters.

Makama reported that the operation targeted more than 200 armed bandits allegedly led by Idi Abasu Aiki, who was said to be linked to several attacks across Katsina and Zamfara States.

According Makama, the gunmen stormed Guga village in Bakori Local Government Area with the alleged intention of attacking communities accused of supporting local security groups involved in protecting nearby villages.

“Over 200 armed bandits led by kingpin Idi Abasu Aiki stormed Guga village in Bakori LGA of Katsina State. Assisted by several bandits from the Ado Aleru band in Zamfara State, the bandits were out to attack communities they believed had been supporting Community Watch Corps protecting the surrounding villages,” Makama said.

The report stated that the planned attack was allegedly intended as retaliation for an earlier confrontation in Dawan Laila village, where local hunters reportedly inflicted heavy losses on the armed group.

“Unknown to the bandits, the DSS had water-tight intelligence plans. The over 200 armed bandits literally walked into a trap. Over 60 of them, including Idi Abasu Aiki and 14 of their top commanders, didn’t come out of that trap alive,” Makama added.

Makama further reported that four members of the Katsina State Community Vigilantes and local hunters supporting the operation were also killed during the confrontation.

According to the report, security operatives later conducted clearance operations in the area, recovering weapons and other items abandoned during the operation.

Troops of the Joint Task Force North-East, Operation HADIN KAI, have arrested a 21-year-old suspected terrorist collaborator during a covert intelligence-led operation in Magumeri town, Borno State.

A security expert, Zagazola Makama, made this known in a statement posted on X.

Zagazola said the suspect, identified as Abur Mallam Shuaibu, was apprehended at about 3:00 p.m. on July 30 by troops of the 109 Special Forces Battalion in conjunction with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, CJTF.

According to him, the operation followed credible intelligence indicating that the suspect had infiltrated Magumeri town to attend a 40-day prayer ceremony held for his late father.

He added that during preliminary interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to being involved in cattle rustling, attacks on motorists along the Magumeri–Gubio road, and the imposition of illegal levies on communities within the area.

“The suspect also admitted that the activities of his group forced many residents to flee their homes for fear of being killed if they failed to pay the imposed levies.

“He would be handed over to the Joint Intelligence Fusion Centre, JIFC, for further investigation and necessary action,” Zagazola said.
