British sprinter Amy Hunt has welcomed the new camera guidelines for female athletics coverage, and believes that in order to feel comfortable when competing, females shouldn’t have to change their clothes.

New guidelines were recently released, with a focus on using more respectful camera angles when covering live female athletics events. The advice was given to broadcasters after being collated by the European Broadcasting Union and female athletes.

Hunt has given her thoughts on the new changes and how much of a step forward it is for both the athletes and broadcasters. Much has been made about the issue over the years, which makes this news all the more positive.

Rule Changes in Athletics Coverage

Among the new guidelines, broadcasters will now avoid low camera angles underneath athletes in events such as the high jump and pole vault. Furthermore, lingering shots on bodies and excessive slow-motion replays are among the issues that are now looking to be removed from the events.

The new guidance could be in action by as early as the 10th of August as the BBC broadcasts the European Athletics Championships, which take place in Birmingham.

EBU Sport executive director Glen Kilane shared her thoughts on the problems, saying: “The sexualisation of women athletes through selective camera angles and editing choices continues to be a significant concern across many sports broadcasts.”

Hunt, who is a British sprinter and helped win silver in the relay race at the 2024 summer Olympics, provided her thoughts on the new suggestions, and how it is a huge step forward for the athletes.

She said: “I think when we were in London or maybe Doha, we had cameras in the blocks that female athletes flagged as potentially an issue.

Furthermore, she also felt that it’s important to ensure the athletes are as comfortable as possible, and aren’t having to worry about things like clothing or being sexualised.

She concluded: “It’s definitely a really welcome change to be able to just focus on the sport. We shouldn’t have to change what we are wearing in order to feel comfortable. I want to feel fast and powerful, I don’t want to feel like I’m in any way inhibited by my clothing.”

Liverpool have entered the race to sign France World Cup star Manu Kone this summer, and are looking to pip Man Utd to his signature, according to Football Insider.

Kone, who has been described as ‘phenomenal’, enjoyed a superb World Cup campaign with France as Les Bleus finished fourth, with the AS Roma star a key part of Didier Deschamps’ midfield options.

Man Utd are understood to be showing a big interest in the 25-year-old, with Roma open to a sale this summer, but Liverpool are now set to enter the race for his signature.

Iraola is understood to want to strengthen his midfield options, and after watching Kone regularly during the World Cup this summer, Liverpool are now prepared to step up their interest to try and beat a host of rivals to a deal.

The France star still has three years remaining on his contract in Italy, but it’s understood that Roma would be willing to sell for around £50m due to their financial situation currently.

Midfield star Dominik Szoboszlai has signed a new contract at Anfield in recent days, but there are question marks over the future of Curtis Jones and Alexis Mac Allister ahead of the new season, and that could open up a spot for Kone to slot into Iraola’s side.

Liverpool Need to Get a Move On

After appointing Iraola as manager, the expectation was that Liverpool would act quickly and ruthlessly in the transfer market. But so far, the club have hijacked a move to sign Munoz from Osasuna, and that’s it.

The squad is razor-thin already, and with more exits already happening since the end of the season, there are several positions in the squad that need addressing, including central midfield.

If Liverpool want to be competitive again next season, having had a disappointing campaign last time out, they need to get a move on in the transfer market, and a deal for Kone would be the perfect start to that.

Fabrizio Romano has explained why Manchester United haven’t rivalled AS Roma in the race for West Ham United winger Crysencio Summerville.

The Dutch attacker has been on Michael Carrick’s shortlist as a possible option to bolster the left side of his attack. West Ham’s relegation has led to several high-profile first-team members heading for the exit door and he’s likely to be one of them.

Roma have made a concrete move for the 24-year-old after submitting an offer to sign the former Leeds United star. United haven’t stepped up their interest and there’s a good reason why.

Man Utd Not Stepping Up Summerville Interest

Romano delved into Summerville’s situation and gave an update on United’s stance over a move for the player. He said on his YouTube channel:

“Roma sent a bid for Crysencio Summerville. Why Manchester United can’t move? Aston Villa are calling as well. Roma are working hard to close the deal. Why are May United not advancing? Because, as I told you in my videos every day, Crysencio Summerville was one of the options on the list at United only if, if and when, (Marcus) Rashford leaves. At the moment, that’s not the case. This is why May United are yet to move for Summerville.”

Marcus Rashford’s future is uncertain after spending last season on loan at Barcelona. The Catalans opted against triggering a £26 million buy option in the agreement with United and instead signed Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United for £70m.

This means Rashford is set to return to Old Trafford and report for pre-season with his boyhood club as things stand. He has been busy representing England at the World Cup and had been expected to leave the Red Devils permanently.

Romano has also confirmed that Roma are set to submit a third bid for Summerville after West Ham rejected a second offer worth in excess of €45 million (£38m). It appears United don’t intend to enter a bidding war, with Rashford’s future still undetermined.

Carrick Must Choose Rashford over Summerville

Summerville enjoyed a fine season despite West Ham’s relegation, managing five goals and four assists in 31 games. He also caught the eye for the Netherlands during the World Cup and at just 24 he could be a long-term solution for United.

That said, Rashford starred for Barca which is why many are surprised the Spanish giants didn’t opt to sign him permanently. He bagged 14 goals and as many assists in 49 games across competitions.

Michael Carrick seems prepared to work with Rashford and might believe he can get him playing to his best after a tumultuous spell under predecessor Ruben Amorim. The pair know each other well, and the club could decide to keep the 28-year-old for his versatility and prevent spending money on a replacement.
