Security operatives launch rescue mission for abducted victim in Benue
Security operatives have launched a rescue operation for one of three siblings abducted by gunmen in Benue State while transporting their mother’s corpse from Abuja for burial.
The kidnappers released two of the siblings on Saturday night and abandoned the corpse of their late mother, while one victim is still in captivity.
The siblings were reportedly travelling to Iklenyi community in Okpokwu Local Government Area for the burial when they were abducted at about 4 am on Saturday.
The incident occurred between Omutele and Ankpechi along the Ogobia–Otukpo Road in Oglewu District of Ohimini Local Government Area.
Speaking with journalists on Sunday, a resident of the community who identified himself simply as Elijah said, “The kidnappers released two siblings and dumped the corpse on Saturday night so they could bury their mother. But one of them is still being held.”
The Chairman of Ohimini Local Government Area, Gabriel Adole, confirmed the development, saying the mother’s remains had been taken to Okpokwu for burial, while security personnel had moved into the forest in search of the remaining victim.
He explained that conventional police officers, soldiers and other security agencies were in the bush trying to rescue the victim.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, DSP Udeme Edet, said the command had yet to receive an official report of the incident from the Divisional Police Officer in Ohimini Local Government Area.

Ondo: Police nab interstate robbers, recover, beretta pistol
Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command, over the weekend, arrested three suspected interstate armed robbers.
The criminal syndicate who operate in ONdo and Lagos States, were nabbed during a stop and search operation by police operatives while they were travelling in a Mercedes-Benz ML 350 SUV.
During the searvch, one AK-47 rifle, one magazine loaded with 18 rounds of live ammunition, one English-made Beretta pistol loaded with four rounds of live ammunition, one UTC axe and one iron cutter were discovered in theior possession.
While briefing newsmen on the arrest of the suspect, the commissioner of police in Ondo, Felix Ohagwu identified the suspects as Promise Daniel, 34; Ifeanyi Umahi, 29; and Adaramoye Abayomi, 37.
According to Ohagwu, the arrest was made in connection with an armed robbery case initially reported on 14th June, 2026, at Iju Division, Ita-Ogbolu, Akure North Local Government Area of the state, adding that the suspects have been on the command’s watchlist.
He said, “The Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its sustained offensive against violent crimes with the arrest of three suspected members of a notorious interstate armed robbery syndicate allegedly responsible for a series of armed robbery operations across Ondo and Lagos States.
“Acting on credible intelligence and sustained surveillance, the operatives intercepted the suspects while they were travelling in a Mercedes-Benz ML 350 SUV, ash colour.
“During interrogation, the suspects made useful confessional statements regarding the ownership of the recovered weapons and other criminal activities.
“The information provided is currently assisting investigators in tracking down other fleeing members of the gang and uncovering the full extent of their operations.”

Thunderstorm kills six children, injures others in Adamawa
Thunderstorm has struck Dadiri Tirgali village in Ganye Local Government Area of Adamawa State, killing six children instantly and injuring two others.
DAILY POST gathered on Monday morning that the six deceased minors were struck by lightning while about eight children were working on a farm on Sunday, July 19, 2026.
The injured minors have reportedly been taken to a clinic for medical attention.
In a message on the incident, Christopher Nathaniel, the Adamawa State governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, said he received the news of the tragedy with deep sorrow.
He stated, “The loss of innocent young lives has thrown the entire Ganye Chiefdom and Adamawa State into mourning. On behalf of myself, my family, and the great people of the SDP, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the people of Dadiri Tirgali, His Royal Majesty, the Gangwari Ganye, and the entire people of Ganye Local Government Area.”
Ganye is famously called the food basket of Adamawa State because of how massively food crops, including yam tubers, are grown in the area.

Troops arrest five suspected militia members, recover firearm in Benue
Troops of Sector 1, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have arrested five suspected militia members and seized a firearm during a clearance operation in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State.
According to security sources, the operation was conducted around 8:00 a.m. on July 17 by personnel from the Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) in Otukpo and Oju.
The troops reportedly stormed suspected militia hideouts in the Otukpo-Nobi, Amichio and Amula Forest axis, where five suspects were apprehended.
Items recovered during the operation included a locally fabricated Dane gun and five rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition.
Following the raid, the troops demolished the identified militia camps to prevent the suspects and their associates from returning to use them as operational bases.
The arrested suspects remain in military custody for preliminary investigation, while security forces continue efforts to track down and arrest other members of the suspected criminal network operating in the area.
