Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have foiled an attempted mass abduction and rescued 27 kidnapped victims during separate operations in Sokoto and Zamfara states.
The development was contained in a post shared on X on Wednesday by security analyst, Bakatsine.

According to the post, the operations were carried out over the past two days as troops intensified efforts to tackle insecurity in the North West.

Bakatsine said the soldiers successfully prevented a planned mass abduction along the Gummi–Sokoto highway after responding swiftly to reports of the attack.

The troops reportedly engaged the suspected kidnappers in a gun battle, forcing them to flee the area before they could carry out the abduction.

During the operations, security personnel also rescued 27 people who had earlier been kidnapped in separate incidents across the two states.

The rescued victims have since been reunited with their families.

“Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued 27 kidnapped victims in separate operations across Sokoto and Zamfara States over the past two days. The operations also thwarted an attempted mass abduction along the Gummi-Sokoto highway, where troops responded swiftly, engaged the attackers and forced them to flee.

“Several livestock and motorcycles were also recovered during the operations, while all rescued victims have since been reunited with their families,” Bakatsine wrote.

Bakatsine further disclosed that the troops recovered several livestock and motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing criminals.

He praised the soldiers for their bravery and commitment in protecting lives and communities.

“Kudos to the troops for their courage, professionalism and continued sacrifices in keeping communities safe,” he wrote.

Troops of Sector 2, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have disrupted an alleged attempt by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists to extort money from residents in parts of Yobe State.
The military said the operation was launched after intelligence indicated that suspected insurgents were moving in two Volkswagen Golf cars and on motorcycles to collect illegal levies from communities.
In a statement issued in Maiduguri by the Acting Military Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Capt. Mohammed Goni, troops from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Bukarti, supported by the 27 Task Force Brigade, carried out a fighting patrol along the Paya Kafiya axis on July 19.

According to the statement, the troops intercepted the suspects and engaged them in a gun battle.

The military said one of the Volkswagen Golf vehicles used by the suspects was disabled during the encounter, while its driver was killed. Four other suspected terrorists reportedly escaped into nearby bushes after sustaining gunshot injuries, leaving the vehicle behind.

Capt. Goni said troops later conducted exploitation operations along the Paya Kafiya–Garin Gada route, where they recovered the abandoned vehicle and several items believed to be linked to the group’s operations.

The recovered items included 25 rounds of belted PKT ammunition, a loaded AK-47 magazine, 15 spent PKT ammunition links, assorted medications, nicotine products and mechanical tools suspected to have been used to support the insurgents’ activities.

The military said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to disrupt terrorist supply chains and cut off sources of funding for insurgent groups operating in the North-East.

At least 32 people have lost their lives, while more than 200 residents have been displaced following a series of violent clashes between farmers and herders in Udege, Nasarawa Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, over the past three months.

The conflict, which reportedly began on April 3, 2026, in Odeni Gida Electoral Ward, has continued to spread across several communities, including Angwan Mada, Apura Adagba, Udege Kasa, Akyewa, Angwan Ogiri, and neighbouring settlements.

The violence has also left many people injured or missing, while homes, farmlands, vehicles, motorcycles, food supplies and economic trees worth millions of naira have been destroyed.

The alarming figures were disclosed on Monday during plenary of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly by the member representing Udege/Loko Constituency, Hon. Onarigu Onah Kana, who raised the issue under a matter of urgent public importance.

According to the lawmaker, the persistent attacks have crippled farming activities, forcing residents to abandon their communities and seek refuge in makeshift camps.

“For over three months, the peace of Odeni Gida Electoral Ward has been shattered. 

“About 32 people have been killed, others remain missing or injured, while more than 200 residents have been displaced. Homes, farms and businesses have been destroyed, leaving our people in fear and hardship,” Kana told lawmakers.

He further lamented that many farmers can no longer access their farmlands due to insecurity, warning that the situation poses a serious threat to food production and livelihoods in the affected communities.

Kana also recalled recent incidents linked to the violence, including the killing of a resident in Akum on June 25 while returning from his farm and another fatal attack on a farmer in Agam village on July 9, warning that the crisis could spread further if urgent action is not taken.

The legislator urged the Assembly to condemn the attacks and called for the immediate deployment of security personnel to restore peace and protect lives and property.

He also appealed to the Nasarawa State Emergency Management Agency (NASEMA) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide urgent humanitarian assistance, including food, medical supplies and temporary shelter, to displaced residents.

In response, the Nasarawa State House of Assembly adopted resolutions urging Governor Abdullahi Sule to direct the Commissioner of Police to strengthen security operations by deploying additional personnel to Udege and other affected communities.

The Assembly also encouraged traditional rulers and community leaders to establish peace and reconciliation committees to address the root causes of the conflict, while calling on the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to reinforce security efforts in the troubled areas.

Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, described the renewed violence as unfortunate and stressed the need for coordinated action to prevent further loss of lives and property.

The speaker subsequently directed the Clerk of the House to communicate the Assembly’s resolutions to Governor Sule for immediate implementation, while appealing to residents to remain calm as efforts continue to restore lasting peace.
