Cameron Menzies has released a statement following a concerning on-stage incident during his World Matchplay Darts clash on Wednesday night.

The Scotsman lined up to face Ross Smith in the second round of this year’s tournament following his shock 10-7 victory over Luke Humphries on Monday.

The former world champion threatened to stage a dramatic comeback when he won four legs on the bounce after a poor start, finding himself 8-3 down after losing his first six legs with the throw.

Menzies then sealed the 10-7 victory in style as he reeled in the ‘Big Fish’ – hitting the maximum 170 checkout.

The 37-year-old described the victory as the ‘biggest moment of my darts career’ and was left speechless following the win.

“I don’t know how to explain that. I did believe in my heart that I could maybe cause an upset, but I would have to play it out of my skin,” Menzies said.

“I wouldn’t say I played it out of my skin, but I played really well. I did say before the game started, to beat Luke, I need to take every chance that he gives me.

“It’s not like Luke to give a lot of chances away, but obviously I’m going to take it. A lot went in. I was happy. I stole a few legs to win, but it’s made the best moment of my darts career.”

The win meant he faced Ross Smith in the next round, following his 10-6 win over the Netherlands’ Kevin Doets on the same night. However, an on-stage incident meant that the match never reached its conclusion.

Menzies had continued his form from Monday’s game as he took a 2-1 lead, but, during the fourth leg, he was rushed off the stage after falling ill.

He stumbled to the side of the stage and became unsteady on his feet, with Smith and the match officials coming to his aid as the broadcast cut away, and the match was paused.

The PDC later issued a statement explaining the situation further, saying: “Cameron Menzies was taken ill during his round two match against Ross Smith at the Betfred World Matchplay on Wednesday evening.

“We wish Cameron all the best and look forward to seeing him back in action soon.”

Menzies himself later posted on Facebook saying: “Thanks to everyone who’s checked in and sent messages. I’m okay.”

Breel Embolo was shown a controversial red card in their quarter-final tie, while some were left angered by decisions that went Argentina’s way in their comeback win vs England.

Muller has now added fuel to the fire by hinting that Messi’s presence on the pitch can sometimes influence referees’ decisions.

The 36-year-old brought up Germany’s quarter-final tie against Argentina at the 2010 World Cup. Germany won the game 4-0.

During the match, Muller was shown a yellow card after the ball struck his hand. The yellow meant he was suspended for Germany’s semi-final clash against Spain. Muller has suggested that he was only given a yellow card to help Messi and Argentina.

He said: “We were already leading against Argentina, and Lionel Messi was standing right next to me. The ball bounced off the ground and then struck my hand, which was in this position (next to his body).

Muller’s comments are going viral on social media. A clip showing the moment he was referring to has also emerged.

Despite his recent comments, Muller has huge respect for Messi and recently revealed he now thinks he is greater than Cristiano Ronaldo.

After Messi’s two goals against Austria in the group stage, Muller said, per Marca: “In the past – during the first ten years of both their careers – I was Team Cristiano, because I found his ambition, work ethic, and obsession with success to be the most impressive aspects.

“But now I am Team Messi… he brings more magic and beauty to the game. He combines efficiency with something more; he is a genius in every sense of the word. When the ball is at his feet, something special always happens.”

Muller now plays for Vancouver Whitecaps and played against Messi and Inter Miami in the MLS Cup Final last year.

An update has emerged following reports Argentina fans have ‘launched a petition’ to have the 2026 World Cup final replayed.

Argentina were beaten 1-0 at the New York New Jersey Stadium last Sunday, with Spain’s Ferran Torres scoring the only goal of the game in extra-time.

Spain were worthy winners, registering 65% possession on the day and nullifying the threat of Argentina’s legendary top scorer Lionel Messi.

Argentina registered two shots all match (zero on target), while Spain had 12 shots on target from a total of 20 attempts.

Extra-time may have been a different story had Enzo Fernandez not been sent off in second-half stoppage-time. The Chelsea midfielder, who has since released a statement, received a second yellow card for a foul on Pau Cubarsi, making Argentina’s task significantly harder.

Lionel Scaloni’s side defended resolutely and weren’t far away from taking the final to penalties, but Torres’ 106th-minute goal earned Spain their second World Cup title.

Update Over Argentina Fans’ ‘World Cup Final Petition’

Various outlets including beIN Sports and GOAL are reporting that Argentina fans have set up a petition, calling for the final to be replayed.

It’s claimed the petition, published on Change.org, had amassed more than 67,500 signatures. Reportedly started by a supporter named Gisela Sanchez, it’s claimed the petition questioned the performance of Slovenian referee Slavko Vincic during the final in New York.

The petition’s author reportedly claimed Vincic’s decisions directly affected the course of the match, with FIFA urged to review the match official’s performance, despite the fact no documented evidence was provided to support the accusation.

Spanish outlet Marca have reported the same information; however, they now say the story has taken an ‘unexpected turn’, with Argentine publication El Canciller questioning the truthfulness of the campaign, leading to the conclusion that this is a “fake news” story that’s spreading.

Indeed, a search of the petitions currently on Change.org brings up no results regarding the petition in question.

2026 World Cup Final Will Not be Replayed

Even if the petition in question was found, Change.org have no regulatory authority and cannot force FIFA to make the unprecedented decision of replaying the World Cup final, regardless of how many people sign it.

A match can only be replayed under exceptional circumstances established in football’s regulations or through a ruling by the relevant governing bodies.

There are no suggestions that anything untoward occurred in the 2026 World Cup final that would warrant FIFA to potentially consider a replay.

World football’s governing body have released a statement confirming no suspicious betting activity or indications of potential match manipulation were identified across any of the 104 matches played at this summer’s showpiece tournament.
