A dispute among commercial tricycle (keke NAPEP) operators at Angwan Kassa in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, turned deadly on Wednesday after a violent confrontation left a 29-year-old man dead.

The deceased, identified as Jessy Markus, was reportedly responsible for issuing the daily operational pass required by members of the commercial tricycle riders’ union before commencing daily operations.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident began when Markus stopped a commercial tricycle rider who allegedly failed to obtain the mandatory daily pass. He reportedly insisted that the rider purchase the pass before continuing his operations.

“The rider abandoned his tricycle at the scene and left, only to return later accompanied by his younger brother and several associates. Some members of the group were armed with knives,” the witness who identified himself as Sunday said.

What started as a heated argument quickly escalated into a violent confrontation during which Markus was allegedly stabbed in the neck.

The attack sparked panic across Angwan Kassa, forcing residents, traders, and fellow tricycle operators to flee the area as violence erupted.

“We received a distress call and immediately mobilized to the scene to assess the situation and prevent further escalation,” said a security operative who requested pen protection.

Police sources confirmed that two suspects, the tricycle rider and his younger brother were arrested and are currently in custody while investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the killing.

“Markus was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jalingo, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. His remains have since been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary,” the security source said.

Following the incident, armed security personnel, supported by a police Hilux patrol vehicle, were deployed to Angwan Kassa to maintain law and order and prevent any breakdown of peace.

As of the time of filing this report, the Taraba State Police Command had not issued an official public statement on the incident, while investigations remain ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the fatal attack.

A two-storey building under construction collapsed on Wednesday at Unguwar Rogo along Bauchi Road in Sokoto metropolis, with all 15 construction workers on site escaping unhurt.

According to a statement posted on Facebook by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Sokoto Operations Office, the agency received a distress call at about 2:23 p.m. and immediately deployed its Search and Rescue Team to the scene.

“Assessment at the scene revealed that 15 construction workers were present when the building collapsed. Fortunately, none of the workers was trapped or injured, and no casualty was recorded,” NEMA said.

The agency said its Search and Rescue Team joined other emergency responders in a coordinated operation to search for possible trapped victims, evacuate casualties if necessary, and secure the area against further risks.

The multi-agency response involved the Federal Fire Service, Sokoto State Fire Service, Sokoto State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Sokoto State Urban Planning and Development Authority, the State Association of Civil Engineers, as well as members of the community.

The spokesperson for the Sokoto State Police Command, DSP Ahmad Rufai, confirmed the incident, saying no lives were lost and no injuries were recorded.

“No life was lost and no injury was recorded in the incident,” Rufai said.

The owner of the building project, Alhaji Auwal Abubakar, described the collapse as unfortunate but expressed relief that everyone escaped unharmed.

“It is a painful incident, but I thank God that no life was lost,” he said.

NEMA added that relevant authorities have commenced investigations to determine the cause of the building collapse.

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested four suspects in connection with two separate cases of alleged culpable homicide recorded in Bauchi metropolis and Dandango community. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing suspects.

The Command disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Nafiu Habib, saying the cases have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution.

According to him, the first incident occurred on July 25, 2026, at Unguwan Kur in Bauchi metropolis.

The statement said, “a 45-year-old resident of the area reported to ‘D’ Division, Dutsen Tanshi, that 21-year-old Al-Amin Hamisu Gidado, allegedly acting in concert with another suspect identified as Yahaya Mu’azu, who is currently at large, stabbed 25-year-old Zahradeen Dan’Azumi Tanko in the back”.

The victim reportedly sustained multiple injuries and was rushed to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, where doctors confirmed him dead on arrival.

“The principal suspect, Al-Amin Hamisu Gidado, has been arrested and is in custody, while efforts are ongoing to track down the second suspect,” the statement added

In a separate incident, police said three suspects were arrested over the alleged killing of a 51-year-old man, Monday Chiroma, and the assault on another victim, Yelwa Bango, in Dandango area of Bauchi.

The incident was reported at E-Division, Yelwa, on July 21, 2026, after residents brought Chiroma’s lifeless body to the police station.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that on the night of July 20, a group of individuals allegedly attacked the two victims on suspicion that they were responsible for the alleged bewitching of one Jamila Anthony, a 20-year-old woman who later died while receiving treatment at a hospital in Gudun Hausawa, Bauchi”.

The police identified the suspects as Danjuma Anthony, Ayuba Anthony, also known as “Babaru”, Christopher Adamu, Peter Monday, also known as “Maimako,” Joshua Christopher, Babangida Monday, Ali Yakubu, Iliya Yakubu, also known as “Ashe”, Sati Monday and Bulus Monday, also known as “Gagau”.

The victims were taken to ATBUTH, Bauchi, where Monday Chiroma was confirmed dead, while Yelwa Bango was treated and admitted.

Police said operatives swiftly arrested Danjuma Anthony, Ayuba Anthony and Christopher Adamu.

“The suspects confessed to the offence during interrogation, while efforts are ongoing in collaboration with Danga security and members of the community to apprehend the remaining suspects who are currently at large,” the statement said.

Reacting to the incidents, the Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned both killings and cautioned residents against taking the law into their own hands.

“The Bauchi State Police Command strongly condemns these incidents and urges members of the public to shun violence and jungle justice. Citizens should report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station rather than resorting to self-help,” the Commissioner said.

Aliyu reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring justice for the victims and maintaining peace and public safety across the state.

The police added that investigations into both cases are continuing, while all arrested suspects will be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
