The Kano State Police Command has recovered 160 suspected stolen solar inverters worth about N59.2 million in Kano following intelligence provided by a community policing stakeholder.

The recovery was announced in a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who said the operation was one of two major breakthroughs recorded by the command within 48 hours through the efforts of officers from the Sharada Police Division and the Special Intervention Squad (SIS).

According to the statement, detectives attached to the Sharada Police Division acted on credible information on July 29 after receiving reports that a man was offering large quantities of solar inverters for sale at unusually low prices.

The police said the suspect, identified as 43-year-old Abdullahi Isah, was arrested, while a follow-up operation led officers to an uncompleted building at Haye Quarters along the Western Bypass Road in Kano, where the inverters were found.

Police said a total of 160 pieces of 6.5KW/48V solar inverters, valued at N59.2 million, were recovered from the building and are believed to have been stolen.

The command called on anyone who owns or recently lost solar inverters matching the description to report to the Sharada Police Division for identification and possible recovery.

“The items are reasonably suspected to have been stolen,” the statement said.

The police added that investigations are ongoing to determine where the items came from and identify other people who may be connected to the case.

The suspect would be charged to court after investigations are completed, the command said.

In another operation, the police arrested three suspects in connection with the theft of six fuel dispensing machines worth about N10.2 million from Jajire Filling Station in Aku Village along Maiduguri Road in Gaya Local Government Area.

According to the police, the robbery took place in the early hours of July 25 when armed men reportedly overpowered the station’s security guards, tied them up, locked them inside the security room and carted away the fuel dispensing machines.

After the incident was reported later that day, operatives of the Special Intervention Squad launched an investigation and arrested three suspects on July 29.

The suspects were identified as Bishir Abubakar, 60, of Gafai Ward in Katsina State; Shamsu Abdullahi, 30, of Kofar Kaura Ward in Katsina State; and Alhaji Shamsu Lawan, 56, of Filin Polo in Katsina State.

During interrogation, the police said the suspects confessed to buying the stolen fuel dispensing machines from one Usman Ibrahim of Kaduna State, who is currently on the run, for N5.2 million.

The command said efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect and recover the stolen machines, while the arrested suspects will also be charged to court after investigations are completed.

The Nigeria Police in Imo State has busted a criminal gang operating within the FUTO and Ihiagwa community axis in Owerri West LGA and arrested seven armed robbery suspects following an intelligence led operation. 

The operation also led to recovery of sundry arms and ammunition following a search of the criminals’ hideout.

A press statement issued through the desk of the Command’s Spokesperson, Henry Okoye, stated that the operation leading to the arrest of the suspects was in line with the Command’s sustained efforts to combat violent crime within the State.

Okoye hinted that the operation followed a report made on July 18, 2026, by a student of the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede who alleged that he was robbed at gunpoint along the FUTO- Ihiagwa road.

He asserted that operatives of the Command acting on the report, carried out strategic operation leading to the arrest of three suspects, Stanley Nwachukwu, Moses Okezie and Gabriel Confidence.

According to him, the suspects, after being transferred to the Anti Kidnapping Unit for further investigation, confessed to being members of the Vikings Confraternity and provided information that led to the arrest of four additional suspects identified as Emeka Oguike, Gideon Kadiri, Nnodim David and Kingsley Okwara.

“The arrests were part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating within the student community. Searches conducted during the operation led to the recovery of one cut-to-size English-made single-barrel gun, one locally made revolver pistol, one locally made single-barrel gun, and four rounds of live cartridges.” Okoye informed.

 The Command’s spokesperson added that an investigation is ongoing to apprehend other fleeing suspects.

Reacting to the arrest, the State Police Commissioner, CP Audu Garba Bosso, commended the operatives for their professionalism and reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to combating cultism, armed robbery, and other violent crimes.

 He urged members of the public to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information.

The Police in Ogun State has arrested a muder suspect in Ijebu North East Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The suspect simply identified as Shaibu, 22, was arrested following reports received concerning an assault at the Alimafo area which resulted in the death of Umaru Musa, 22 .

Confirming the arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect allegedly attacked the deceased following an earlier disagreement involving the deceased’s younger brother.

“Following coordinated efforts by Police personnel and members of the local community, the suspect was traced and arrested.

“The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and diligent prosecution,” he added.

Also, operatives of Iperu Division rescued an abducted victim identified as Sotonwa Oluwameyowa, 29, along Ogere Road, Orisunmibare, Iperu-Remo.

Babaseyi in a statement disclosed that the incident happened on Monday at about 8:15 p.m and upon receiving a distress call immediately mobilised with So-Safe Corps, Amotekun and commenced a coordinated search of the surrounding forest.

He noted that the pressure from the joint team forced the abductors to flee, leading to the rescue of the victim less than 24 hours after the abduction was reported.

“On 28th July, 2026, at about 1620hrs, the Ajuwon Division received a report of an alleged violent assault and unlawful possession of a firearm along Ifedayo Street, Ajuwon.

“Investigation revealed that Dolapo ‘M’ allegedly assaulted the complainant and subsequently retrieved a double-barrel gun from his residence before fleeing. A search of the residence led to the recovery of one double-barrel gun and ten live cartridges.

“The complainant was assisted in obtaining medical attention, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect.

“On 30th July, 2026, at about 0330hrs, the Ewekoro Division received an anonymous distress call concerning an ongoing invasion of a cattle ranch at Powerline, Itori.

“Detectives immediately responded and arrested Abubakar Bello ‘M’ and Jacob Bamidele ‘M’, while other members of the group fled. A white Ford bus, believed to have been used by the group, was recovered at the scene. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing accomplices.

“On 31st July, 2026, at about 1640hrs, Detectives attached to the Anti-Robbery and Patrol Team of Agbado Division acted on information from a vigilant resident concerning suspicious objects found on a perimeter wall.

“The team recovered two locally made pistols and one live cartridge abandoned on the fence. The firearms have been secured for further examination, while investigation continues to identify those responsible,” the statement added.
