Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have arrested three suspects allegedly involved in the murder of two policemen in Aluu, Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state.

The command said the officers were on stop-and-search duty in the Aluu area on June 29, 2026, when the assailants launched a commando-style attack, opened fire on them and carted away their AK-47 rifles.

According to a statement by the command’s spokesman, ASP Blessing Agabe, one of the officers had one of his legs amputated due to gunshot injuries sustained during the attack but eventually succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at the hospital.

The statement said the arrest of the suspects followed directives from the State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, for a swift investigation, the arrest of the perpetrators and the recovery of the stolen rifles and other firearms in their possession.

It said that, following the directive, operatives of the command’s Violence Crime Response Unit, through credible intelligence and sustained tactical operations, trailed the suspects to their hideout and arrested them.

The statement reads: “The Rivers State Police Command has recorded a significant breakthrough in the investigation into the gruesome murder of two police officers who were attacked while conducting a stop-and-search operation within the Aluu Division area on 29th June, 2026, in which one of the officers’ legs was fatally injured and later amputated.”

According to the statement, following the tragic incident, which claimed the lives of the two officers and resulted in the theft of their service AK-47 rifles, the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, Olugbenga Adepoju, immediately visited the division and directed that all operational and intelligence assets of the command be deployed to ensure the arrest of the perpetrators and the recovery of the stolen police firearms.

The statement listed the arrested suspects as Maduabuchi Emeka, alias “Doctor”, aged 34, a native of Egbata Community in Omoku, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of the state; Chinedu Owhor, 42, a native of Akabuka, also in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, but residing in Aluu Community; and Kamachi Joe, 28, a native of Egbata Community, also in ONE LGA.

The statement said the command had spread its dragnet to apprehend the fourth member of the gang, who is currently at large.

Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police commended the operatives for their professionalism, gallantry and dedication, saying the breakthrough demonstrated the command’s resolve to ensure that those who attack police officers or engage in violent crimes have no hiding place in the state.

The Kaduna State Police Command on Tuesday said it had neutralised notorious kidnappers, arrested 16 suspected kidnappers and three suspected gunrunners, and recovered 190 stolen solar inverters valued at N69 million during a series of operations carried out across the state in the last two weeks.

The command also recovered 10 lithium batteries worth approximately N9 million, 10 firearms of different calibres, 170 counterfeit US dollar notes, 83 packs of hard drugs, 32 stolen mobile phones, two plasma television sets, a stolen Toyota Sienna vehicle and more than 400 rustled cattle within the period under review.

Addressing journalists at the Command Headquarters in Kaduna, the state Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, said the operations underscored the command’s resolve to dismantle criminal networks threatening the peace and security of the state.

Muhammad said, “Within the two weeks under review, the Kaduna State Police Command neutralised notorious kidnappers, arrested 16 suspected kidnappers, six suspects found in possession of 170 pieces of counterfeit dollar notes, three suspected gunrunners, recovered 10 firearms of different calibres, 190 solar inverters worth N69 million, one stolen vehicle, 83 packs of hard drugs, 32 stolen phones, two plasma televisions and 410 cattle during various operations.”

The commissioner said one of the breakthroughs followed the arrest of a 20-year-old woman, Aisha Barau, in Ramin Kura Village while allegedly attempting to exchange counterfeit US dollar notes for naira.

According to him, the suspect confessed that the fake currency had been supplied by two men, Abdullahi Muhammad and Danbala Jibrin, leading to the arrest of other members of the syndicate.

“Further investigation led to the arrest of several other members of the syndicate. They will be prosecuted in accordance with the law,” he said.

Muhammad further disclosed that operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, acting on credible intelligence, tracked and arrested three suspected gunrunners in Jos, Plateau State.

The suspects, identified as Luka Samuel, John Paul and Musa Elisha, were arrested with two locally fabricated pistols.

He said the suspects confessed to supplying arms and ammunition to bandits operating in different parts of the North.

Furthermore, in another operation, police operatives, working with members of the Yan Sa Kai vigilante group after months of surveillance, arrested one Abdullahi Mohammed, popularly known as “Aala”, at Kargi Village in Ikara Local Government Area of Kano State.

The police commissioner said the suspect confessed to masterminding several kidnapping operations in Kuzuntu Village and other parts of Kano.

“He also admitted participating in the killing of two Yan Sa Kai members during an attack carried out last year,” Muhammad said, adding that an AK-47 rifle and five rounds of live ammunition were recovered from the suspect.

The command also recorded a breakthrough against vehicle theft after recovering a Toyota Sienna stolen from the premises of a Juma’at Mosque in Ungwan Rimi, Kaduna, among other arrests and item recoveries.

Muhammad appealed to residents to continue providing timely and credible intelligence, assuring that the command would sustain ongoing operations aimed at flushing out criminal elements and safeguarding lives and property across Kaduna State.

An Assistant Superintendent of Police, Bala Wakili, has been killed while engaging suspected bandits in a gun duel in Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

Wakili, who was attached to the Kebbe Police Division, reportedly lost his life during an operation to repel armed attackers who invaded two communities in the area.

According to Daily Trust, the suspected bandits stormed Girkau and Zugu villages at about 4 p.m on Monday and allegedly made away with an unspecified number of livestock.

A source in the area said, “The security operatives engaged the bandits in a fierce exchange of fire, but the attackers were in large numbers.

“They eventually overpowered the team, killed ASP Bala Wakili and set ablaze two patrol vehicles one belonging to the police and the other to the Sokoto Community Guard Corps.”
