Liverpool Eyeing Ibrahim Mbaye Alongside Barcola
Liverpool are showing an interest in PSG winger Ibrahim Mbaye, GMS understands. The 18-year-old Senegal international is expected to leave Paris this summer as he seeks more minutes.
PSG are expected to seek at least €50m, and potentially even higher in what is proving to be an inflated market.
Liverpool are yet to place an offer, but Mbaye is understood to be keen on a move to Anfield.
Bayer Leverkusen in Direct Talks to Sign Mbaye
Bayer Leverkusen are already in direct club-to-club talks for Mbaye with Nasser Al-Khelaifi and Fernando Carro both part of those discussions. The pair have an excellent relationship and progress has been made in talks.
Yet Mbaye is prepared to assess all options and would welcome a formal approach from Liverpool, according to sources familiar with his thinking.
The African ‘phenomenon’ made 23 appearances last season, scoring three times, but is part of a competitive squad that includes Desire Doue, while Bradley Barcola can also operate from the right.
And PSG are in the market for at least one more two-sided winger. Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche is set to join for around €50m, and PSG have not discounted adding another attacker after pulling out the race to sign Real Madrid-bound Yan Diomande. All this means Mbaye’s game time could be reduced.
Liverpool Still Want Barcola on Top of Mbaye
Liverpool are also exploring a move for Bradley Barcola and have held preliminary talks with PSG over a move.
The Reds are prepared to bid around €100m, but nothing will advance imminently unless PSG drop their €170m asking price.
It is possible PSG’s price may drop as August progresses, and once their own recruitment in wide areas is complete. Yet PSG insiders insist any Barcola sale should be more than the fees for Elliot Anderson (£116m) and Morgan Rogers (£117m) even though the French international won’t sign a new deal and only has two years left on his current contract.
PSG argue the fact Barcola had a strong World Cup with France, scoring three times and getting an assist, coupled with the fact he is a back-to-back Champions League winner, only add to his value.
Barcola wants to join Liverpool and although personal terms are not yet in place, they are not thought to be an issue. The biggest challenge will be agreeing a fee with PSG.

Newcastle Shake Hands to Sell Bruno Guimaraes to Arsenal for £75m Fixed Fee
Newcastle United have agreed to shake hands with Arsenal on a deal to sell Bruno Guimaraes for a record-breaking fee, according to Lee Ryder.
The Magpies have been adamant they did not want to sell their captain this summer after already losing Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali for a combined fee of £170m, as they moved to Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur respectively.
But Arsenal have been pushing to find an agreement for the Brazilian, and after further talks in Spain, a deal is now on the verge of being agreed.
Newcastle Close to Agreement With Arsenal
According to Chronicle Live, Guimaraes flew out to La Manga to link up with his current teammates for pre-season training, but held talks with new manager Matthias Jaissle and club chiefs to discuss his future.
The 28-year-old confirmed his desire to leave St James’ Park and move to the Premier League champions, with a deal until 2031 already agreed, and confirmed that he was not interested in discussing a new contract with the Magpies either.
Newcastle have now agreed to let him leave after talks with Arsenal reached a pivotal stage, and it’s now expected that they will shake hands on a deal worth a fixed-fee of £75m – making him the most expensive ever midfielder in his age bracket.
Chronicle Live understands that the entire £75m fee will be paid up front and with zero add-ons, making the deal much more beneficial to Newcastle as they look to replace their star man, with the new manager faced with a major rebuild.
A medical is expected to take place later this week, and Newcastle will now turn their attentions towards the future.

Arsenal Level Up Title-Winning Midfield
Arsenal won the Premier League as the best team in England last season, and they also reached the Champions League and Carabao Cup final. But by adding the former Lyon star to their midfield, they have managed to level up their squad.
Alongside Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi, plus Martin Odegaard, Eberechi Eze, Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly, the Gunners have got one of the deepest midfields around, and they have multiple different profiles for a number of scenarios.
Guimaraes will add leadership, ability and top-level experience to a team that is already winning, and Mikel Arteta has got his top target into the Emirates Stadium.

Remo President Slams ‘Bum’ Neymar After Santos Clash
Neymar has been labelled a “bum” as eyebrow-raising footage of the Brazilian’s behaviour following Santos’ 1-0 win over Remo goes viral on social media.
The 34-year-old, who confirmed his retirement from international duty last week, entered the fray as a second-half substitute in the Copa do Brasil Round of 16 second leg and provided the assist for the only goal of the tie, scored by Rony.
However, the situation turned ugly as the players returned to the dressing rooms after full-time.
Footage has emerged showing Neymar taunting Remo’s furious players, officials and several fans near the mixed zone.
According to Brazilian outlet Metropoles, Neymar shouted: “Eliminated! Eliminated!”
Those on the Remo side of the fence also made ‘obscene gestures’ to Neymar. Watch the footage below:
Neymar Slammed by Remo President Antonio Carlos Teixeira
Remo president Antonio Carlos Teixeira was livid with Neymar’s behaviour, telling reporters: “A great campaign [the one from Remo]. Now, feeling of being harmed, Santos doesn’t need that.
“And this bum Neymar, who is idolised by a bunch of children, who did his antics here, still came to provoke. So, we are guilty of idolising a bunch of bums like this guy.”
Football fans have been left saddened by the footage of Neymar, one of the great entertainers of his era, reduced to such childish antics.
One football fan wrote on Reddit: “It’s definitely one of the most embarrassing career endings I can recall. The fact that it’s not even quick but a slow spiral full of embarrassing little incidents like this, makes it even more embarrassing.”
Another said: “Just retire please…”
While a third fan added: “Don’t lower yourself to this.”
Reason For Neymar’s Behaviour Emerges
However, an explanation for Neymar’s post-match behaviour appears to have emerged.
Metropoles claim Neymar was “very harassed” by the fans inside Remo’s Mangueirao stadium. “It was possible to hear screams and curses directed at the player,” they add.
It seems Neymar, still receiving abuse from some people associated with Remo after the final whistle, snapped.
The former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain star worked hard to work himself into contention for Brazil’s 2026 World Cup squad before receiving the surprise call-up from Carlo Ancelotti.
However, the forward only played two matches, scoring his one goal of the tournament from the penalty spot in Brazil’s 2-1 defeat to Norway in the last 16.
Neymar was also involved in an altercation with Norway goalkeeper Orjan Nyland at the time, leading to fans accusing him of not focusing enough on saving Brazil from a humiliating World Cup exit.

Jamie Carragher Names Only Two Clubs That Can Win the Premier League
Jamie Carragher has already named the team he believes will win the 2026-27 Premier League title, and it’s not Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.
The Gunners finally got their hands on the iconic trophy for the first time in over 20 years last season, and will go into the new campaign as favourites. There has been a lot of change at the usual competitors, with Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea all starting the season with new managers.
But pre-season always comes with excitement for fans of several clubs, who start to believe their team is about to embark on a special season. Carragher thinks only two fan bases have reason to be confident, and Liverpool aren’t one of them.
Jamie Carragher Picks His Premier League Winners
Appearing on the Football Ramble podcast this week, the Liverpool and England icon was asked who he thinks are the favourites going into the new season. He’s adamant there are only two clubs in contention.
While he did admit there’s still work to be done in the transfer market, Carragher claimed only Arsenal and Man City can lift the trophy next May. “Where we are right now, and we know there’s still a month to go transfer-wise, I can only see Arsenal or City,” he said.
Enzo Maresca is tasked with the impossible job of replacing Pep Guardiola at the Etihad this season. Carragher is a big fan oof the Italian coach, as he stated:
“There’s a question because he [Maresca] is new to the role but I’m a fan of Maresca in terms of what he does on the pitch, in terms of what happened at Chelsea, in terms of watching him tactically and how he set up.
“The problems they caused Liverpool at times, when Liverpool won the league under Arne Slot, the two Chelsea games, I was looking at them and thinking, ‘This fella knows what he’s doing’, and I think he’s very capable at the level he’s coaching at.”
“If Rodri stays or goes that could be a huge factor,” the defender-turned-pundit claimed. When pressed to pick his outright winners, Carragher went with Man City, saying: “I think City. The reason I think City is that I think they were still close last year. I know Pep’s gone, I get that.
“When you’ve had the same manager for 10 years, the flip side of what people will say is that it’s hard to come after him. Just something a little bit new, a little bit fresh. I think if Rodri leaves for Real Madrid then I wouldn’t be saying that but in terms of where they are right now…”
Liverpool Ruled Out of the Premier League Title Race
When asked if Liverpool have a chance of regaining the title after a poor 2025-26 campaign, their former centre-back essentially ruled them out of contention. He said: “Right now I don’t think Liverpool are equipped to be thinking about a title.”
“Who knows what’s going to happen over the next month but I don’t think they’re close to that,” he added. Carragher has been publicly vocal about Bradley Barcola not being the right man to target.
He didn’t give Manchester United much of a chance. Speaking about Michael Carrick’s team, he said: “Manchester United won’t win the league.
“The thing I’ve probably liked about United this summer is it has felt like for years that they’re obsessed with this big name. And I worry a little bit about my own club, Liverpool, with that, with what we did last summer.”
