2027: Orji Kalu dismisses ‘weak opposition’, says Tinubu has no competition
Former Abia State Governor and Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, has declared that President Bola Tinubu faces no formidable challenge ahead of the 2027 presidential election, describing the opposition as too fragmented to mount a credible contest.
Kalu made the remarks on Wednesday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he argued that the inability of opposition parties to unite had significantly strengthened the ruling All Progressives Congress’ chances of retaining power.
“He has no competition. The opposition is very weak. He has no competition because you check what we did during the primaries, the number of people, our membership, things Tinubu has done all over Nigeria, the new roads he has created,” Kalu said.
He added that the political landscape would have been different if opposition parties had remained united.
“If they were together, we would start having some sleepless nights. Now they are not together,” he said.
The senator, however, acknowledged that the Tinubu administration had not done enough to publicise its achievements, noting that the President had shown little interest in promoting the activities of his government.
Kalu also claimed that Tinubu was contending with opposition from both within and outside government.
According to him, the President has “a lot of archenemies” working against his administration despite what he described as its progress in office.
Assessing the administration’s performance, the former governor said Tinubu had delivered on a substantial part of his mandate and expressed confidence that his approval rating would continue to improve.
“He has done 65 per cent well,” Kalu said, adding that the President could be approaching “70 per cent by September or October.”
He also predicted that voters in northern Nigeria would ultimately support Tinubu’s bid for a second term based on the administration’s performance.
Kalu’s comments come amid continued political realignments ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
A coalition initially championed under the African Democratic Congress in 2025 brought together several opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso. However, disagreements over the coalition’s leadership and structure later triggered fresh political alignments, leaving opposition parties divided ahead of the next general election.

Osun 2026: Report Tinubu to Trump too – Nigerians urge Davido
Nigerians have called on Afrobeat star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, to show greater interest in national political issues and also report President Bola Tinubu to the United States President, Donald Trump.
The call came after the singer said he would involve Trump if the forthcoming Osun State governorship election is rigged.
His remark has been greeted with various reactions from Nigerians who questioned why he appears more vocal when political issues involve his family and the Osun governorship contest than on broader national challenges affecting millions of young Nigerians.
DAILY POST reported that Davido had warned he would seek Trump’s intervention if anything goes wrong with the August 15 Osun State governorship election.
Reacting to the development, some X users asked Davido to extend his advocacy beyond the Osun election and speak more consistently on issues affecting the country.
According to them, the singer, who commands a large following among Nigerian youths and has previously used his platform to comment on political matters, could also use his influence to draw attention to national concerns.
They charged the singer to also speak about what critics describe as poor governance, economic hardship, insecurity, unemployment and other challenges confronting young Nigerians.
Here are some reactions gathered by DAILY POST
@Barnny_sommy, “Davido always comes over to fight when his family members are involved. For three years, he has remained quiet, while Nigerian citizens suffer, only for him to come out now disturbing us.”
@NC_Okonkwo, “Why didn’t you involve Biden when things went WRONG with the 2023 Presidential Election? The Osun Election will be rigged and nothing will happen. Na everybody go chop breakfast
@stevejioff, “Davido is a great guy but it’s disappointing he doesn’t speak about issues in the nation, especially those the youths face, until it’s about his family’s Osun election.”
@Mind_____Game, “Davido refused to involve Trump when children and women were kidnapped. Now for his own selfishness he is calling on Trump. Hypocrites
@Akpomamus186428, “It’s all about selfish interest. You have been in rapport with Tinubu despite his criminal history and failure in government. Now the snake is in your corner, you remember Trump.
@TheRealEmma22, “I strongly advise that you involve big daddy now, before @officialABAT rigs that election. The earlier you invite Donald Trump, the better for you. Bcoz we’re not dealing with a human being. Bola Tinubu is a demon that must be exorcised by every means necessary.”
