“I think the players who play in those competitions, the European players, we stand by our beliefs and what the right thing is for our game,” she said.

The immediate fallout would be felt most acutely in the women’s game, with the FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup due to begin on the 5th of September. That tournament features a strong European contingent including England, France, Italy, Portugal, Spain and hosts Poland.

Bronze framed her support for the boycott as being about more than short-term politics, insisting it is about protecting the sport’s legacy for generations to come.

“It’s for the future of the game and not just for me today and tomorrow. It’s for all the little girls or little boys who come after us to make sure that they’re in a good place when the game’s moving forward in decades to come, not just tomorrow.”

Her comments come despite FIFA U-turning on its private investment plans, with Infantino issuing an apology for his “errors.” UEFA nonetheless confirmed on Thursday that the boycott remains on the table.

Reaction To Enes Kanter Freedom’s WNBA Declaration

The post has since been amplified by high-profile figures including Riley Gaines and Benny Johnson, with the latter offering legal backing should the league attempt to block Freedom’s declaration.

Some observers on social media have framed the situation as a test of consistency, questioning whether the WNBA can defend its self-identification rules without applying them to Freedom too. Others have dismissed the declaration entirely, arguing it’s a bad-faith stunt designed to mock the league’s policies rather than genuinely test them.

The WNBA has not yet issued a response to Freedom’s declaration, and it remains to be seen whether the league will address the situation directly or attempt to clarify its eligibility criteria in light of the growing attention.

Crystal Palace look to have run out of patience with Brennan Johnson and are willing to send him to Everton in exchange for Dwight McNeil.

The Eagles appear ready to make it up to McNeil and want to use Johnson to secure his arrival. The 26-year-old could be keen on the switch given he’ll have the chance to play in the Europa League under new manager Pierre Sage.
