The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, presidential running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has hinted that most state governors seeking reelection would be disappointed.

Kwankwaso disclosed that most Nigerians won’t support some of these state governors seeking reelection in 2027.

The committee gave the assurance on Sunday after meeting with Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, at the Government House, Port Harcourt, for the second time in about two weeks.

It said all members would be treated equally and with respect under the ongoing reconciliation process, regardless of their previous political differences.

The chairman of the committee, Senator Magnus Abe, said the meeting was convened to enable the previously estranged political leaders to discuss modalities for achieving peace and reconciliation.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Abe said the committee had held several engagements to develop a framework for members of the political family to work together.

He said the explanation was necessary to enable Rivers people to understand the direction of the reconciliation efforts and what the development could mean for the state.

“I’m sure that Rivers people will be very curious to understand exactly what we have been talking about.

“So, I know that this will be very good news for all Rivers people who are interested in the unity, progress and prosperity of Rivers State.

“We are all in agreement and we have made very good progress.

“Our coming together signals a significant shift in the political atmosphere of the state and we believe that all well-meaning Rivers people will be very happy to see that finally, the peace that all Rivers people crave for is here,” he said.

The Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, South-South Zone, Dr Samuel Nwanosike, who was part of the delegation, thanked Governor Fubara for allowing the committee to meet with him and engage in discussions as brothers.

Nwanosike stated that both meetings held by the committee have been successful.

He added that the success of the meetings, “shows clearly to the people of Rivers State that the family is back; sincerely back and soon, they will see the working of the Rainbow Coalition.”

He also assured the people of the state that the Rainbow Coalition will deliver the dividends of democracy.

Also speaking, another stakeholder, Chief Ambrose Nwuzi, said members of the group who believe in Governor Fubara had agreed to embrace peace, stressing that there was no better alternative to reconciliation.

He described the disagreements of the past as a normal occurrence in any human society.

Other members of the delegation included the governorship candidate of the APC in Rivers State, Kingsley Ogundu Chinda, among others.

The committee was constituted by the Rainbow Coalition, led by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, after Governor Fubara announced his return to his former political family.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Jigawa State has expressed optimism that it will defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections and form the next government in the state.

The ADC State Chairman, Dr Sani Muhammad Gumel, stated this while addressing journalists, saying the APC’s control of government would not stop the opposition party from winning the election.
