According to him, President Tinubu could have secured victory for the APC if he had decided to pursue the election at all costs.

“If the President had wanted to win the Osun State election at all costs, I would have been there and we would have won it, and there’s nothing the governor can do,” he said.

DAILY POST reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, declared Governor Ademola Adeleke as winner of the August 15, 2026 election after defeating his closest rival, the All Progressives Congress, APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.

Osun decides: Adeleke wins keenly contested governorship election 

Adeleke won 19 Local Government Areas with 511,067 votes to defeat Oyebamiji who won 11 Local Government Areas with 444,815 votes.

​The APC alleged that violent incidents began on Sunday, following the declaration of Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord as winner of the governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

According to the party, “some of our members and supporters have reportedly been attacked in different parts of the state by Accord Party political thugs.”

The APC also alleged that some local government chairmen had attempted to force their way into council secretariats with the assistance of armed political groups, claiming that some of the groups carried guns, cutlasses and cudgels.

The party alleged that some individuals claiming to be members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers had attempted to take control of motor parks across the state with the assistance of thugs.

The statement listed alleged incidents in Oke-Fia, Osogbo, Amudaoba in Modakeke and Iba in Ifelodun Local Government Area, among other locations.

The APC claimed that a house belonging to one of its members, Akibu Olateju, was destroyed in Ilie, Ifelodun Local Government Area, while other members and supporters had also reported attacks in different parts of the state.

The party further alleged that four motorcycles belonging to its members were burnt in Modakeke after the election results were announced, while a shop belonging to a female APC member was also allegedly destroyed.

It also referred to a video circulating online which it alleged showed some individuals assaulting an APC female member in Modakeke.

“We condemn in its entirety the needless violent attacks of our members by the Accord Party hoodlums. Reprisals could threaten public peace and plunge the state into a wider crisis,” it stated.

The APC urged the Osun State Police Command to protect its members and supporters and investigate the alleged attacks, while also calling on Adeleke to caution those allegedly involved.

“Governor Adeleke should call his attack dogs who are unjustifiably attacking our members and supporters to order. The governor should manage his electoral victory in a manner that would prevent further disturbances,” it stated.

The Osun State Police Command had on Monday warned individuals and groups against any attempt to forcefully take over the affairs or premises of local government areas in the state.

The warning was issued on Monday by the Commissioner of Police, Election, CP Samuel Etaifo Erale, following reports of plans by some individuals or groups to occupy local government facilities.

There were reports that about 16 governors, who are members of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, were in Osun State to rally support for the party’s candidate.

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio and other top political leaders were also in the state a few days to the election, raising concerns over their intentions.

But ex-President Jonathan, in his reaction, warned that such political conduct demands national attention.

“While we commend the electoral process itself, there are developments surrounding the election and, more importantly, an emerging trend in political conduct during off-cycle elections that raises concerns.

“The growing practice whereby serving governors, senior political office holders, party leaders and other influential government functionaries, accompanied by large numbers of aides and heavy security details from outside a state, converge on states where elections are being conducted, raises an issue that demands national attention,” he said.

He also pointed out that similar political outings were recorded during the off-cycle elections in Ekiti and Ondo State, describing the trend as unusual.

“It is not a practice that should become normal in a democratic society”, Jonathan added.
