Arsenal star Max Dowman turned down approaches from admirers and has chosen to sign scholarship terms at the Emirates Stadium after being convinced that he is an important component of the north Londoners’ long-term project, GIVEMESPORT senior reporter Fabrizio Romano has revealed in his latest newsletter.
Gunners boss Mikel Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta, who convinced central defender William Saliba to commit his long-term future to the Premier League table-toppers last month, have been determined to tie the highly-rated teenager down to fresh terms after he has already broken into the first-team picture.
Dowman Turned Down Advances from Suitors to Stay
Arsenal gave Dowman assurances that he is highly-regarded behind the scenes and that he has a bright future in his current surroundings, according to Romano, which resulted in the wide forward choosing to snub the advances of suitors. When asked whether the north Londoners have exciting plans in place for him, the respected journalist wrote in his GMS newsletter sent to subscribers at lunchtime on Friday:
“Of course they do. He has signed a new deal as he believes in the long-term project. Arsenal love Dowman. All the directors and staff members love him. He appreciated Arsenal’s plans for the long-term and will be an important part of the project. That’s why he turned down other clubs’ approaches.”
Dowman signed scholarship terms with Arsenal on Thursday, having worked his way firmly into Arteta’s thoughts as the Spanish tactician goes in search of ending the wait to add to the trophy cabinet, while plans have already been put in place to reward the 15-year-old with a professional contract at the start of 2027 as a verbal agreement has been reached.
Although the England under-19 international is behind the likes of Bukayo Saka in the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium, the Gunners have no interest in allowing him to embark on a fresh challenge and have been eager to ensure that his long-term future will be in his current surroundings.
Dowman made his Premier League debut in August – when he came on as a second half substitute during Arsenal’s comfortable victory over newly-promoted Leeds United – and that allowed him to become the second-youngest player in the Premier League’s history, behind teammate Ethan Nwaneri.
