A Sydney-based football club has paid tribute to an “extremely talented” footballer who was killed during the Bondi Beach shooting over the weekend. At least 16 people, including one of the gunmen, are dead, while a further 40 remain in hospital with injuries following the mass shooting on Australia’s iconic coastline, where suspects opened fire during a Jewish festival.
The identities of those tragically killed in the terror attack are now beginning to emerge in the hours following the incident. One of the latest victims to be identified is 27-year-old French national Dan Elkayam, a beloved member of Rockdale Ilinden Football Club’s Premier League One side in southern Sydney.
The club took to social media to share a heartfelt statement after French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed Elkayam as one of the victims of the Chanukah party terrorist attack.
“It is with extreme shock and sadness to discover our Premier League 1 player – Dan Elkayam – was a victim of the horrendous, tragic and senseless events at Bondi Beach on Sunday 14th Dec 2025,” the club posted on Facebook. The statement continued (see the full post below):
“Dan was an integral member of our PL1 Squad in 2025 – who was an extremely talented and popular figure amongst teammates. Our deepest and sincerest condolences to Dan’s family, friends and all that knew him. He will be missed. May he Rest in Peace – Memory be Eternal.”
