Players With Most Premier League Player of the Month Awards
Winning the Premier League’s Player of the Month award is some achievement. To have shone for the entirety of the calendar month is certainly no easy feat, but some players have become accustomed to swooping up the individual gong.
Recognising the best adjudged English top-flight player for that month, the winner is chosen via a combination of a panel of experts, the captain of each Premier League club, and an online public vote, with the latter equating to just 10% of the final tally.
Interestingly, the Premier League Player of the Month award was only introduced two seasons after the division’s inception in 1992. Ever since, a new player has been handed the award every month.
It’s typically given to the sole standout performer for said month; but on the odd occasion – six to be precise – it has been shared between two players. Alan Shearer and Chris Sutton rubbed shoulders in 1994, while Liverpool duo Luis Suarez and Steven Gerrard were the latest to do so in April 2014.
But which of the league’s greatest players have reigned victorious the most? Which player is the only one to win it as two different nationalities? And which player has won it four times in one calendar year? Find out the answers to the trio of questions below.
Managers With the Most Premier League Manager of the Month Awards
Sir Alex Ferguson, Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola are among the managers that have won the award 10 times or more.
Two Player of the Month Awards
Number of players: 31
An eye-catching 31 players have been blessed with totting up more than one award. Old school players such as Dion Dublin, Tony Yeboah, and Gianfranco Zola have picked up a duo of awards, while more-recent stars including Trent Alexander-Arnold, Cole Palmer and Ilkay Gundogan also have two to their name.
Eden Hazard, one of the finest Belgians to appear in the league, surprisingly only picked up two during his stint at Chelsea despite terrorising defenders, week-in week-out. The world-class winger earned his first in October 2016 and then doubled his tally in September 2018. Involved in the best Premier League front-three debate alongside Raheem Sterling, both Daniel Sturridge and Suarez, formerly of Liverpool, also have two apiece.
Brentford’s Igor Thiago won his first and second Premier League Player of the Month awards in November 2025 and January 2026.

Three Player of the Month Awards
Number of players: 8
Spurs cult heroes Gareth Bale and Robbie Keane are among the Premier League players to have picked up a hat-trick of Player of the Month awards, as has Raheem Sterling – included in Liverpool’s all-time academy XI. Keane, more impressively, has won the award playing for a triumvirate of clubs, with wins coming at Coventry City, Leeds United and Tottenham.
Manchester United pairing Ruud van Nistelrooy and Dwight Yorke, both synonymous with scoring bucketloads of goals at Old Trafford, earned themselves three apiece, too. Ashley Young, currently at Ipswich Town, has also won it three times.
The seasoned winger-turned-defender joins the likes of Peter Odemwingie and Sadio Mane, who last won it in February 2012 and November 2019, respectively. Winning a trio of Player of the Month awards is a tall order, but these players made it look like second nature during their time in the Premier League.

Four Player of the Month Awards
Number of players: 9
A real mix of old and new has seen a quartet of awards, including Dennis Bergkamp, Paul Scholes, Marcus Rashford and Heung-min Son. Scholes could arguably be higher on the list given the talent he had at his disposal – but as we’ve learned, he was one of the world-class players to never be appreciated by their national side. And it seems that the same occurs at domestic level.
The same goes for Thierry Henry, who endured a breathtaking spell at Arsenal. Season upon season, the dazzling Frenchman was a thorn in many defences and, perhaps, deserved more than just four Player of the Month awards. Rashford and Son are still playing but now outside of English football, while Lampard, Bergkamp, and Shearer – all long retired – are going to continue sporting four awards until the end of time.

Five Player of the Month Awards
Number of players: 2
Rooney, who ranks high among Manchester United’s best-ever strikers, scored plenty of goals during his illustrious stint at the club and, as such, earns his rightful plaudits as the man who embodied everything the club stands for. With that came five Player of the Month awards, with his last coming in January 2010.
Joining him on this list is Van Persie – also known as the ‘Flying Dutchman’. The mercurial striker scored 144 goals in the English top division and, in return, was awarded on five separate occasions. Four of those came while at Arsenal, with just one coming during the 2012/13 season where he almost single-handedly won Manchester United the league title.

Six Player of the Month Awards

Bruno Fernandes now sits level with Steven Gerrard and Cristiano Ronaldo on six Premier League Player of the Month awards. A remarkable achievement considering he joined Man Utd in 2020 and the Red Devils have endured countless tough periods during that timeframe. The Portuguese maestro is worth his weight in gold to the north-west outfit.
Gerrard, ranked as one of England’s best-ever players, became one of Liverpool’s icons during his one-club stint on Merseyside and is thoroughly deserving of his six awards given how often he pulled them through the darkest of times.
Ronaldo is undeniably one of the greatest footballers of all time, and it’s no surprise that he is nearing the top of this list. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner earned four of his six awards in his first Manchester United stint but also bagged an extra two upon his sensational homecoming to Old Trafford. Two of the Premier League’s finest ever servants were whiskers away from joining the elite crew that boast seven awards.

Seven Player of the Month Awards
Number of players: 3
An accolade targeted at those who have an innate knack for putting the ball in the back of the net, it’s little surprise to see only three players have added a record-breaking seven to their CVs. A truly incredible feat that only a handful of players could ever dream of matching.
Sergio Aguero and Harry Kane, who plied their trade for Manchester City and Tottenham, respectively, both won the accolade on seven occasions. The former spearheaded City’s rise to prominence before seeking pastures new at Barcelona, while Kane was the north Londoners’ ever-reliable figure up top that did it all: scored goals, linked play and was subject to doing the dirty work, too.
The 25 Greatest Strikers in Premier League History (Ranked)
GIVEMESPORT ranks the 25 greatest strikers in Premier League history, from Luis Suarez and Thierry Henry to Wayne Rooney and Didier Drogba
Winning his first all the way back in October 2013 and picking up his last in January 2020, the Argentine, one of the Manchester-based club’s greatest-ever players, was a key player for Pep Guardiola as he notched a mouth-watering 260 goals in all competitions and so, it’s not surprising to see him top the list, alongside one of the league’s greatest ever centre forwards.
Of course, there is every chance that Kane – who joined Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023 as their marquee arrival – could return to his homeland and pull off into a league of his own with much more to give at the ripe age of 32. The England international was just 47 goals from Shearer’s all-time goalscoring record upon his departure and could be enticed to return, especially with more Player of the Month awards on offer.
Mohamed Salah’s seventh award, collected in February 2025, saw him join the aforementioned duo in the exclusive club. The Egyptian King, forever compared to Hazard, won his first in November 2017 before winning consecutively in February and March 2018. Salah was a key part of his side’s resurgence under Jurgen Klopp but is now poised to leave Anfield – and English football – at the end of the season.

Alexi Lalas Tips USMNT Star to Become ‘Greatest American Soccer Player in History’
US soccer cult hero Alexi Lalas is hoping that one member of the current United States national team can build on an already impressive club legacy with a convincing showing at the 2026 World Cup.
Lalas represented the United States at the 1994 and 1998 World Cups, as well as the 1992 and 1996 Olympics. After winning gold at the 1991 Pan American Games, Lalas won the 1995 US Cup, leading to him being named US Soccer Athlete of the Year. He finished his international career with 96 caps and is still well regarded by US football fans.
But as the United States looks to complete a memorable home campaign, Lalas has pinned his hopes on one standout individual who he believes can become the greatest American football player his country has ever produced.
Alexi Lalas’ Pick for Greatest American Soccer Player
In recent decades, the debate for America’s all-time greatest player has come down to two: Landon Donovan and Clint Dempsey. And whilst Dempsey’s personality and consistent success in the Premier League have won him many admirers, Lalas prefers the former Bayern Munich and Everton star.
“I think when it comes right down to it, in a World Cup game for the country, if you have Landon Donovan and Clint Dempsey standing there, I’m going to pick Landon Donovan,” said Lalas. “Now, in a bar fight or a street game, I’m going to pick Clint Dempsey.”
However, the recent success of Christian Pulisic has changed the FOX analyst’s opinion. Pulisic has hit double figures with goal contributions in each of his three seasons at AC Milan. And after his starring role in a 3-0 victory over Udinese last season, Lalas argued that Pulisic is the Rossoneri’s star player currently.
“I think you are looking at it certainly right now, and if you need any more proof, this game is it, that he is an elite player in Serie A. He is, I think, arguably the best player for AC Milan,” stated Lalas on his State of the Union podcast.
Having picked up major honours at Milan, Borussia Dortmund, and Chelsea, including the Champions League and the Club World Cup with the latter, Pulisic is the most decorated US footballer at European level. But he may need more international success to convince the US supporters.
15 Greatest USA Players in Football History [Ranked]
Including Landon Donovan, Clint Dempsey, and Christian Pulisic, the best USMNT players of all time have been ranked.
The Mount Rushmore of American Soccer
Donovan and Dempsey are worthy candidates, and are currently America’s joint all-time leading goalscorers on 57. Donovan also played a starring role in USMNT’s best modern run at a World Cup, making the quarterfinals in 2002. Dempsey, meanwhile, was the first American player to score at three different World Cups.
The United States goalkeepers, Tim Howard and Brad Friedel, also enjoyed highly successful careers in the Premier League and represented their country admirably on the global stage.
Donovan and Friedel’s teammate Claudio Reyna is also fondly remembered, having made the World Cup All Star Team in 2002, as well as finding success in the Premier League and the Bundesliga.
Alexi Lalas’ old teammates Cobi Jones, Jeff Agoos, and Marcelo Balboa can throw their hats in the ring for their international success alone. And Michael Bradley, America’s 151-cap man, followed an eerily similar path to Pulisic, travelling to the Bundesliga, then the Premier League, before winding up in Serie A at Roma.
But with almost a century of appearances and sustained successes in several of Europe’s top leagues, at just 27, Pulisic is still the man to beat. If the USA can add an unlikely World Cup winners’ medal to his cabinet, his legacy will surely be set in stone.

Daniel Cormier’s Emotional Reaction to Dustin Poirier’s Arrest
UFC legend Daniel Cormier has offered his reaction after his longtime friend Dustin Poirier was arrested for public drunkenness at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Sunday.
The 37-year-old former UFC interim lightweight champion Poirier was caught on police bodycam footage challenging a police officer to a fight and acting aggressively toward airport staff after seemingly having been removed from his flight due to being drunk.
If found guilty, ‘The Diamond’ could be jailed for up to a year and face a fine of up to $1,000.
Hard Not to Get Lost’ – Cormier’s Message to Struggling Dustin Poirier
Former two-division champion Cormier, who attended the same high school in Louisiana as Poirier, has now called for some empathy toward Poirier and said that the issues that Dustin is going through show the struggles that all professional athletes deal with as they adjust to retirement.
“I think that that showed how hard it is for fighters and athletes to retire,” Cormier said on his YouTube channel. “It’s hard to not get lost when you walk away from something that’s been so important and that truly becomes your identity.”
“I think we should have some empathy, people should be more careful to judge. Everybody loves Dustin. Dustin’s done some great things. We can’t forget the great work because of a mistake that he made. He’s not the only one. So many people struggle whenever that thing is gone,” Cormier said.
He pleaded with fans:
“Try to uplift the man. Try to uplift the person that’s struggling as opposed to joining the angry mob that is trying to pile onto Dustin Poirier right now.”
Dustin Poirier’s Tough Transition to Life After Fighting
Cormier admitted there were warning signs along the way that Poirier may struggle to adapt to life after fighting. In an earlier interview, the pair discussed the idea of retirement and Poirier said he didn’t know what to expect as he had been fighting since the age of 17.
“I’ve been doing this longer than I haven’t been doing this. I’ve been fighting longer than I haven’t been fighting,” Poirier said, adding that he was scared and that he didn’t know how a regular person went about life. Cormier tried to reassure him and said it would give him freedom to focus on other things.
Poirier addressed his arrest on his Instagram and said that he will get some help as he is having difficulties now that he is no longer fighting in the Octagon, having retired after losing to Max Holloway at UFC 318 last July.
Dustin Poirier Releases Honest and Vulnerable Statement After Bodycam Footage of Arrest Emerges
The Diamond took to Instagram after the police bodycam footage surfaced on social media of his recent arrest.
“I’m at the point where I need some help. Walking away from fighting hasn’t been easy on me and alcohol isn’t the answer,” Poirier said. “It has ruined my father’s life and I will not allow it to ruin mine. My family deserve me at 100%. I’m trying to do everything I can to get my mind right and take the right next steps.”
Poirier had a storied career in the UFC spanning more than 14 years and over 30 fights. During that time, he won multiple performance bonuses and fought some of the organisation’s biggest names, including Conor McGregor, Khabib Nurmagomedov and Justin Gaethje.
