Chelsea’s Alejandro Garnacho Makes Honest Admission About Man Utd Exit
Alejandro Garnacho has opened up on the turbulent end to his Manchester United career, admitting that his own behaviour played a part in his departure from Old Trafford, confessing that leaving hurt more than he let on at the time.
The Argentine winger joined Chelsea in a £40 million deal last summer, but the move has yet to deliver the fresh start he was hoping for. But before looking ahead, Garnacho chose to look back.
In an honest new interview, the former Man Utd star has opened up about his final months at Old Trafford, explaining how he wasn’t always on his best behaviour.
Garnacho Talks About Man Utd Issues
Speaking to the Premier League, via Goal, the 21-year-old was honest about the final months of his time in Manchester, a period that saw him frozen out by Ruben Amorim amid reports of disciplinary issues and a breakdown in their relationship. Social media posts from Garnacho and his brother only raised the tension, as did an eyebrow-raising photograph of the player wearing an Aston Villa shirt with Marcus Rashford’s name and number on the back, a rather provocative gesture given Rashford’s own situation with the club at the time.
On his final months at Old Trafford, Garnacho recalled:
“I remember in the last six months I was just not playing like before at Manchester United. I started to be on the bench, it’s not [such a] bad thing, I was only 20 years old, but in my mind it was like I had to play every game.
“In my mind, maybe it is also on me, I started to do some bad things. But yes, it was just this moment in life and sometimes you have to make decisions and I am really proud to be here and still in the Premier League at a club like this.”
Garnacho Admits He ‘Loved’ Man Utd
Despite the bitterness surrounding his exit, Garnacho insists he holds no grudges against United or anyone connected to the club:
“At United [I] have nothing wrong to say about the club or any team-mates, no-one. Just a moment [in] life changed. My life continued. So we have to keep looking forward.”
When asked directly whether leaving hurt him, he didn’t shy away from the question, replying:
“Yeah, maybe yes, because I loved that club, you know? They gave me the confidence from the start, from Spain, to bring me to the academy, then they bring me to the first team, so it was like four or five years, and amazing love from everyone, from the fans, the stadium, everything was really good. It’s just sometimes you have to change for the good of your life or the next steps. I only have good memories of Man Utd.”
3 Man Utd Stars Who Tried To Step in & Change Garnacho’s Behaviour Under Amorim
While Amorim quickly lost patience with Garnacho, three senior stars tried their best to advise the player, but he just would not listen.
The difficulty is that life at Chelsea hasn’t been straightforward either. Garnacho arrived at Stamford Bridge with considerable expectations and a contract running until 2032, but consistency has eluded him. He’s managed only one Premier League goal in 20 appearances this season, and the appointment of Liam Rosenior following Enzo Maresca’s departure in January has done little to improve his fortunes. Chelsea’s poor league form and elimination from the Champions League have only added to the sense that things have not clicked for both player and club.
Now just a rotational option, Garnacho finds himself at a crossroads at just 21. Reports have emerged suggesting River Plate coach Eduardo Coudet has personally contacted the player regarding a potential loan back home to Argentina, a move that would have never been on the table not so long ago, when he was widely considered the future of the United attack.
For a player who arrived at Stamford Bridge desperate to put a difficult chapter behind him, Garnacho would have hoped the hard part was over. Eight months on, Chelsea are still waiting for the winger they thought they were getting for £40 million, and by his own admissions, Garnacho is still waiting to feel like that player too.

Man Utd in Close Contact to Sign Bournemouth Star Marcos Senesi
Manchester United are in close contact with Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi’s agents ahead of his contract expiry in June, according to reports in Italy.
The Old Trafford side are believed to be among a host of Premier League clubs interested in the Argentina international, who helped Bournemouth secure a statement 2-1 win over Arsenal on Saturday.
Senesi is likely to become the next major name to leave Bournemouth this summer, following Antoine Semenyo’s move to Manchester City in January for £64m.
The Cherries parted ways with defenders Milos Kerkez, Dean Huijsen and Ilia Zabarnyi before the season, raking in a total of £147m in transfer fees.
According to Italian journalist Matteo Moretto, Senesi is nearing a decision over his future amid an impressive campaign at Bournemouth and is expected to choose his next club soon.
The Argentina international’s agents are reportedly in ‘close contact’ with Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester United, with other potential suitors seen as outsiders in the transfer race at present.
Senesi joined Bournemouth from Feyenoord in the summer of 2022 and has been an important player for the Cherries since, registering 122 appearances in all competitions and scoring six goals.
Andoni Iraola’s side have been in impressive form lately, avoiding defeat in their last 12 Premier League games, including wins over Tottenham, Liverpool and Arsenal during that run.
Manchester United have not ruled out adding to their centre-back options ahead of a potential return to the Champions League next season.
The Red Devils have been without injured Matthijs de Ligt since November, while Lisandro Martínez has also struggled with a calf setback recently.
United have extended Harry Maguire’s contract this week, tying the 33-year-old to a new agreement until June 2027, with an option for a further year.
Midfield Remains Priority for Man Utd
After spending almost £200m on reinforcements up front, United are expected to prioritise signings in midfield this summer.
The Old Trafford side are preparing for Casemiro’s departure at the end of his contract in June and are eyeing Premier League-proven players as potential successors.
Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson and Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali are both on the shortlist, as is West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes, seen as a potentially cost-effective option.
Manuel Ugarte’s exit could prompt United to bring in two new faces in the middle of the park, with the Uruguayan attracting interest from Italian clubs ahead of the summer.

Li Haotong Could Withdraw Due to Sickness
A top golfer may have to face an early withdrawal from The Masters due to illness. Reports say he struggled to leave the bathroom on Friday morning after feeling ‘weak and fuzzy.’
The golfer managed to complete 18 holes in round two despite warning reporters that he considered exiting the tournament as he’d been “living in the toilet.”
“I didn’t hit many balls on the driving range. I was feeling really bad. No energy, fuzzy, want to throw up something,” he said.
Even though he felt sick, he still rolled in a nine-foot putt on the 13th hole and hit a 150-yard approach to within inches on the 14th. The best part was his Houdini moment on 15. After missing the green, he made an amazing recovery through the trees to save a birdie.
Appearing in The Masters for the first time since 2019, and after several years struggling for form, Li Haotong has earned his way back via a stellar T4 finish at the 2025 Open Championship at Royal Portrush.
The Chinese golfer has shown an awful lot of resilience. For someone who has fought so hard to return to Augusta, quitting due to a stomach bug would be a last resort scenario.
While the likes of Scottie Scheffler, Jon Rahm, and Bryson DeChambeau came into the prestigious tournament as favourites, the world No.84 is considered to be a dark horse if his current form is anything to go by.
Li sits at 4-under-par (T7) heading into Saturday, trailing leader Rory McIlroy by eight strokes. He is scheduled to tee off at 6:06pm British time, alongside Kristoffer Reitan. The Norwegian debutante is also sitting at 4-under-par, setting up a fascinating ‘underdog’ duo as they chase down the lead held by McIlroy.
What Li Haotong Has Said About His Masters So Far
Li Haotong is known as the first Chinese golfer to break into the top 50 of the official World Golf Ranking when he peaked at 32 in January 2018.
“I think the best moment was the 15th hole, the par-5,” the unlikely contender said. “I got the wind wrong. It was a super tough chip over there and I got something, like, incredibly up and down.”
He then completed the run by narrowly missing a hole-in-one on the par-three 16th.
“Especially after those four birdies, somehow I felt quite nice. The Major makes me feel good,” he joked after.

Cole Palmer Named His Greatest English Player in Football History
Cole Palmer’s meteoric rise has been a sight to behold, and he’s followed in the footsteps of several past and present stars in the English game by firing on all cylinders for Chelsea and the England national team. Manchester City‘s decision to sell the exciting young attacker for an initial £40 million in the summer of 2023 looks more ridiculous each time he puts in a Man of the Match performance.
The 23-year-old has been a revelation ever since arriving at Stamford Bridge, becoming the Blues’ talisman and getting fans off their feet with stunning displays. This includes a Man of the Match outing in the Club World Cup final, in which he bagged a brace and an assist in the 3-0 triumph. He’s also been making waves on the international scene, managing to score for England in their Euro 2024 final loss to Spain.
Palmer is ascending towards the top of English football, but he has a long way to go in catching the legendary forward, whom he claims is the best English talent to grace the sport.
Palmer in No Doubt About England’s Best-Ever Player
Palmer participated in a Q&A with GOAL regarding his opinion on several footballing topics, including who is the best English player in history, and the Chelsea star responded:
Wayne Rooney lit up English football during a trophy-laden career which saw him fire Manchester United to five Premier League titles, earning a reputation as, quite possibly, the greatest British player in English top-flight history. The ex-England captain became the Red Devils’ all-time top scorer with 253 goals in 559 games and was just as prolific on international duty, with 53 goals in 120 caps.

The legendary striker was named the FA’s England Player of the Year on four occasions, an honour Palmer picked up last year for his extraordinary exploits for club and country, and he’s made it no secret he grew up supporting United and idolised Rooney (via Sky Sports):
“When I go back to the stadium (Old Trafford) it’s good because obviously, I used to go and watch matches there. Rooney (was my icon). I supported United and he was the best player.”
Rooney failed to win a major tournament with England, and that’s sometimes used against him in discussions over English football’s all-time greats. But his growth from a teenage prospect at Everton into a worldwide superstar at United was extraordinary to watch unfold, and it holds similarities to Palmer’s development in the spotlight of world football.
