Michael Carrick Questioned After Starting Manuel Ugarte vs Leeds

Published

on

It was a chaotic night in the Premier League for both Manchester United and Leeds United, but the away team managed to pick up a fine 2-1 win at Old Trafford. That could prove pivotal for Daniel Farke’s men as they now look likely to avoid relegation.

The visiting team started strongly and could have already been ahead before Noah Okafor put his team in front after just five minutes. Before the half-hour mark, it was 2-0 with the same man doubling Leeds’ lead.

There was then huge drama after the break, when Lisandro Martinez was handed a straight red card for violent conduct after he pulled Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s hair. Despite that, Casemiro was then able to make it 2-1 with a fine header in the 69th minute.

Despite both teams then having a chance to score in the final 20 minutes of the match, Leeds were able to hang on to the win.

Manuel Ugarte Poor in First Start Under Michael Carrick

Likely due to an injury to Kobbie Mainoo, Michael Carrick handed Manuel Ugarte a first start since taking over, but he may have regretted that as the midfielder struggled to impress.

Football content creator Terry Flewers was baffled by the call to start Ugarte, taking to social media to echo the sentiments of many Man Utd fans. He wrote:

“That first half was shocking. Absolutely shocking. The decisions from Carrick have not worked at all, leaving Mbeumo out, and changing too many players considering Maguire’s ban & Mainoo’s injury!

Ugarte has been all over the place, hurting the defensive structure & poor on the ball. The right side has been a mess, Amad and Mazraoui offering nothing. Cunha invisible, Sesko hiding. Massive changes needed at halftime. After 24 days of waiting, that was unacceptable.”

Fans Slam Carrick For Starting Ugarte vs Leeds

As seen with Flewers, many Man Utd fans were furious that Carrick started Ugarte and were just as shocked that he didn’t come off at half-time with the team trailing by two goals. Early into the game, one fan said: “Ugarte is still starting 2026. Micheal carrick might not be the man for this job.”

Another then added: “Poor from Carrick with the line up. Get injuries forced somethings but Ugarte should have been avoided at all costs.”

A third said: “Ugarte is so pathetic we ain’t winning this game.”

Then when he didn’t come off at the break, supporters were baffled: “Ugarte coming out for the second-half… Carrick must not want the gig.” Another put: “CARRICK IS MAD!!! UGARTE is seeing 2nd half??????????”

England’s Squad Numbers For the 2026 World Cup Released

England’s squad numbers for the 2026 World Cup have been revealed by FIFA.

Tuchel named his 26-man squad for this summer’s tournament, to be played in the United States, Canada and Mexico, earlier this month. The likes of Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice were all included.

There were also some huge omissions, with Harry Maguire, Jarrod Bowen, Cole Palmer, Morgan Gibbs-White and more big names being left at home.

The World Cup kicked off in just under two weeks, with England kicking off their campaign on June 17 against Croatia. The Three Lions’ starting XI for the tournament is currently unclear.

However, the squad numbers could hint at which 11 players Tuchel will field from the outset.

Unsurprisingly, Jordan Pickford has been given the number 1 shirt. The Everton star has been England’s starting goalkeeper for many years and that’s expected to continue this summer.

Ezri Konsa has been given the number 2 shirt, with numbers 3, 5 and 6 filled by Nico O’Reilly, John Stones and Marc Guehi respectively. If the squad numbers are anything to go by, those four will make up Tuchel’s defence.

Declan Rice is guaranteed to start in the middle of midfield. He has been given the number 4 shirt, while fellow midfielders Elliot Anderson and Jude Bellingham have been given numbers 8 and 10 respectively.

The squad numbers suggest that the three players Tuchel intends to field in attack are Saka, Marcus Rashford and Kane. Saka has been handed the number 7 shirt, Kane will be England’s number 9 and Rashford has been given number 11.

Tino Livarmento, included in an England squad for a major tournament for the first time, has been given the number 12 shirt. His Newcastle teammates Dan Burn and Anthony Gordon have been handed numbers 15 and 18 respectively.

Pickford’s understudy, Dean Henderson, has been handed the number 13 shirt, while third-choice goalkeeper James Trafford has been given the number 23 jersey.

Kobbie Mainoo will wear the number 16, while Morgan Rogers, who is competing with Bellingham for a starting berth, has been handed number 17.

Backup strikers Ollie Watkins and Ivan Toney have been given numbers 19 and 22 respectively, with Arsenal duo Noni Madueke and Eberechi Eze handed numbers 20 and 21.

The three highest shirt numbers in the squad are occupied by Reece James (24), Djed Spence (25) and Jarell Quansah (26).

Of the players given numbers 12-26, James is the most likely player to start. The right-back also wears the number 24 shirt for Chelsea and is likely to start ahead of Konsa if fully fit.

Everton Lead Race to Sign Midfielder Hayden Hackney: David Ornstein

Published

Everton currently lead the race to sign a new midfielder ahead of the summer transfer window, according to David Ornstein.

After a disappointing end to the 2025/2026 season, the Toffees are likely to be active in the upcoming transfer window.

Last summer, Everton were incredibly busy looking to build a squad capable of pushing for Europe.

Unfortunately for Everton, they fell at the final hurdle, showing that they need further reinforcements this summer in order to compete at the highest level.

The Toffees don’t have European football to attract potential new targets heading into the summer, so they’ll have to be clever in how they try to tempt players with a move.

Everton Lead Race for Midfielder

Hayden Hackney

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Everton are currently leading the race to sign Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney ahead of the summer transfer window.

Hackney favours a move to Everton, with club-to-club talks set to follow.

Hackney, who has been described as being ‘on another planet’, was recently voted as Middlesbrough’s player of the season after helping guide them to the Championship playoffs.

Other clubs such as Tottenham, Crystal Palace and Manchester United are also keen on Hackney, but it now appears that his preference would be to move to Everton this summer.

Everton Need a Big Window

David Moyes

Everton spent a significant sum of money last summer, but they failed in their push to finish in the European places.

Manager David Moyes regularly spoke about how the Toffees were aiming to qualify for Europe, but they clearly didn’t have a squad good enough to do so.

Further reinforcements will be needed. While Moyes needs to be more adaptable in his team selections, Everton spent large sums of money on the likes of Tyler Dibling, but Moyes failed to give him a fair opportunity throughout the season.

It’s an incredibly important summer transfer window approaching if Everton truly want to qualify for Europe next season.

Tottenham Progressing With Deal to Sign Man City Winger Savinho

Tottenham are progressing in talks to secure a new signing ahead of the summer transfer window, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.

It looks set to be a busy summer transfer window for Spurs as they look to improve their squad following a disappointing couple of seasons.

Roberto De Zerbi’s side narrowly avoided relegation in the 2025/2026 season, and they are already working on bringing in reinforcements for the new campaign.

This is De Zerbi’s first transfer window since joining the club, so the hierarchy are looking to back him in the transfer market.

Tottenham have been busy in the summer market already, agreeing deals to sign both Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi on free transfers.

Huge news for Tottenham.

Romano Update: Tottenham and Savinho

Savinho in action for Manchester City

According to a report from Romano, negotiations are ongoing for Savinho to join Tottenham, with talks progressing well ahead of the summer transfer window.

Tottenham believe that Savinho wants to join the club, with talks ongoing with Manchester City.

Savinho, who has been described as ‘extraordinary’, hasn’t been a regular for Man City of late, starting just seven Premier League games for Man City during the 2025-2026 season.

Spurs tried to sign Savinho previously, but it appears they are now making another push to secure his signature.

Busy Summer Ahead for Tottenham

It looks set to be an incredibly busy summer ahead, given the start Tottenham have made to the transfer window.

Spurs appear to be working on three deals already, which is no surprise after the disappointing couple of years they’ve had.

The North London club need to back De Zerbi in the market if they want to get the best out of their current squad.

There’s no doubt Tottenham need a host of additions if they want to turn from relegation battlers to European challengers once again, while they will likely have to replace some of their key stars after failing to qualify for Europe
