Five police officers accused in connection with the death of Oghenemine Ogidi, popularly known as OG Millan, were on Monday arraigned before High Court 5 sitting in Asaba, Delta State.

The defendants include ASP Usman Nuhu (42), ASP Onoloko Dauroupamo (47), ASP Okoh Kelechi (46), Inspector Goodluck Kingsley (42), and Inspector Omonigho Ahweyevu (41). The case, filed under Suit No. THC/ASB/CR/M/66C/2026, came before Justice Marshal Onome Umukoro.

The officers were ordered to be remanded at the Ogwashi-Uku Correctional Centre pending further proceedings in the matter, just as the court adjourned the case till June 15, 2026, for arraignment, following a request for legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.

Unfortunately, the family was not informed, just as journalists were not allowed into the courtroom during the proceedings.

Family members of the 28-year-old musician allegedly killed by some policemen have lamented that the police authorities have refused to update them on developments in the case.

Speaking after the hearing, human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu described the officers’ appearance in court as a positive step toward justice.

He said the court ordered that the suspects remain in custody pending legal advice from the DPP.

“Today, they finally produced the officers in court, including the principal suspect and others. The judge ordered that they remain in custody while the DPP reviews the case,” he said.

He raised concerns that the deceased’s family had not been properly updated on developments in the case.

According to him, the family alleged that they had not been shown the autopsy report or formally briefed on the investigation.

He also claimed there were attempts to restrict public observation of the proceedings, although journalists and observers insisted on being present.

Gwamnishu further disclosed that future hearings may be conducted virtually, with the suspects appearing from the correctional facility while proceedings are followed remotely in court. He expressed hope that the legal process would move quickly so the full trial could commence.

Also speaking, a cousin of the deceased, Emuobor Alex, said the family was not adequately informed about the court sitting and only got details through unofficial sources.

He explained that family members travelled from Warri to Asaba after receiving early morning information that the matter would be heard in court.

“We were advised to contact the Commissioner of Police, but later got information from activists that the case would be heard today. We rushed down to Asaba immediately,” he said.

Alex said the family arrived at the court after proceedings had already ended, leaving them frustrated.

He appealed to the Delta State Ministry of Justice and other authorities to ensure timely communication with the family going forward.

“Our only request is to be carried along. We want to know what is happening in the case of our late brother,” he said.

Similarly, the elder brother of the deceased, Victory Ogidi, also complained about the lack of communication from the authorities handling the case.

He said the family had been relying on social media and third-party information instead of official updates.

“We lost our brother, and we should not be relying on social media to know what is happening in a case that concerns us directly,” he said.

Victory urged the Attorney-General of Delta State, the Ministry of Justice, and the Nigeria Police Force to ensure transparency and regular updates for the family.

He stressed that the family was not asking for special treatment, but only to be properly informed and included in the process.

The Ogun State Police Command on Monday clarified a viral video alleging the arrest of suspected kidnappers in the Sagamu Local Government Area of the state, saying the individuals were actually serving Police Mobile Force officers from Lagos State.

DAILY POST reports that the two “suspected criminals” were apprehended by members of the Kanuyi Community in Simawa and mistaken for kidnappers.

They were said to have lost their way while returning from an official duty post in Sagamu when they were apprehended by members of the community.

In one of the viral videos, the officers were seen sitting on the ground, surrounded by an agitated crowd.

Reacting, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, in a statement made available to DAILY POST, said that upon receiving the information, operatives of the Simawa Division were immediately mobilised to the scene.

Babaseyi stated that investigations revealed that the individuals were serving police officers attached to a Police Mobile Force Squadron in Lagos State.

“Upon receipt of the report, police operatives were immediately mobilised to the scene, where the individuals were rescued from an agitated crowd and taken into protective custody for proper identification and investigation.

“Preliminary investigation, according to the police, revealed that the men were PMF officers attached to a squadron in Lagos. They had reportedly lost their way while returning from an official duty post in Sagamu and were mistaken for kidnappers by residents.”

He added that the command confirmed their identities through valid police identity cards, deployment documents, uniforms and other service materials.

“Their parent formation also authenticated their status as bona fide members of the Nigeria Police Force engaged in lawful duties.”

Babaseyi noted that before the police arrived, the officers had been searched, photographed and video-recorded by residents, with the misleading content later circulated on social media. He added that although they escaped physical harm, the incident subjected them to “needless public suspicion and emotional trauma.”

He, however, commended residents for their vigilance and urged members of the public to avoid mob action and allow security agencies to verify facts before drawing conclusions or circulating information capable of endangering innocent persons.

“This incident highlights the challenges and sacrifices security personnel make daily in the discharge of their duties. It also underscores the importance of cooperation between the public and law enforcement agencies in promoting safety, preventing misinformation, and ensuring that innocent persons are not unjustly subjected to public condemnation,” Babaseyi added.

Meanwhile, the command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property, strengthening community policing, and fostering public trust through professionalism, accountability and prompt response to security concerns.

Oyo State Police Command said it has arrested no fewer than two people in connection with a false alarm over the invasion of a community by suspected bandits.

The suspects include a pastor identified as Amos Joel Muyiwa and one Mulikat Bashiru.

The command made this known via a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade.

The statement was made available to DAILY POST on Monday.

Ayanlade, in the statement, said the two suspects are currently in police custody.

He said the suspects deliberately misled the public.

Ayanlade stated that the suspects deliberately disseminated false information alleging that bandits had invaded Lamini Community.

DAILY POST reports that the community is one of the communities in Ido Local Government Area of the state.

He said the command, upon receiving the information, immediately mobilised patrol and tactical teams to the community.

He added that it was discovered that the purported bandit invasion and killing of six persons never occurred.

He said, “The Oyo State Police Command wishes to inform members of the public that it has arrested two suspects in connection with the deliberate dissemination of false information alleging that bandits invaded Lamini Community in Ido Local Government Area of Oyo State and killed six persons.

“The ensuing intelligence-driven investigation, supported by forensic analysis, traced the incriminating voice note to Pastor Amos Joel Muyiwa, who was subsequently arrested.

“Further investigations revealed that the false alarm originated from one Mulikat Bashiru, who had raised the unfounded claim within the community. She was thereafter identified, traced, and arrested in connection with the matter.”
