Soludo reads riot act to APGA members, adopts option A4 for primaries
The Governor of Anambra State and national leader of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Prof Chukwuma Soludo, has read a riot act to the leaders and members of the party, while reeling out guidelines for the conduct of the party’s forthcoming primary elections.
Soludo who addressed APGA faithful during the South-East zonal convention of the party held at the International Convention Centre, Awka on Saturday, revealed that the party would adopt option A4 for its 2027 election primaries.
Soludo said the arrangement will beat rigging and also enhance transparency in the party, while cutting down waste of scarce resources through vote buying.
Soludo said: “I know that most of you may not be happy with this new strategy because you see politics and party membership as business. Most of you may even say “why does this man want to spoil our show during this political season”?
“What we are doing is to cut wastefulness and also ensure the health and credibility of our party. Let me tell you, there are people here who may have saved some money to buy shuttle buses, maybe the money is not yet complete, and they are waiting for this political season to make up to buy it.
“But we don’t want this period to be business as usual. Our aspirants who you want to make money from should be able to save up their resources to be able to fight their opponents in other parties in the main election, instead of spending it during the primary election.
“We are going to adopt option A4 in all our primary election this season. The essence is that once you look back and you are winning, you will know you are winning. When you see a long line of people behind you, you will know you are winning.
“It is not the one that you will pay money to people, and they will tell you they are for you, and because it is a secret ballot, they will go and vote against you. We want to curb all that. There are many other things we want to do to ensure that this party stands.”
The governor also said henceforth, the party will not tolerate aspirants eyeing more than one position.
“If you want to run for governor, please make up you mind about that. We will not tolerate people occupying one seat and vying for another seat.
“We want to ask you all, if you are a member of this party, make up your mind about the position you want to aspire for. For example, if you are going to aspire to be governor, start now. In the next three years and some months, I will be leaving office, you can start now to begin to prepare, not going to pick up a senatorial seat and when it is time for governorship election, you also come out again.
“Let me tell you people how this thing works. Once somebody is interested in governor and he aspires and gets Senate, the tendency is that he will not concentrate on his Senate duties. All his intentions is to make money that he will use to vie for governor.
“That is something we want to stop. We want all party members to ensure they look at the various positions they want to vie for and go for them.”
Soludo added that henceforth, it is strictly prohibited for aspirants to visit members of the state executive in their homes to bribe them. All meetings would be held at the party office, he said.
Earlier, the National Chairman of the party, Barr Sly Ezeokenwa, read out a long list of code of conduct for members that also tallied with the speech by the governor. He insisted that his leadership was on a mission to clean up the party.

Tinubu–Atiku contest key battle of 2027 election – Dele Momodu
A staunch Atiku Abubakar supporter, Dele Momodu, has urged Nigerians to embrace national reconciliation, reorientation and reconstruction ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
In a post on X, Momodu described the expected contest between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the main battle of the 2027 polls.
He said the election “is expected to be a major fight between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his biggest challenger, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar”.
According to him, another political force could emerge, as it did in 2023, but may not have enough strength to challenge the two leading figures.
Momodu said this reality makes it important for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to adopt a different political approach. He argued that the party should serve as a bridge between old and modern political ideas, as well as between experienced politicians and technocrats.
He also warned about rising tensions in the country, saying, “The present combustive tensions and absolute chaos cannot be allowed to continue. It will consume all of us.”
The Ovation publisher called for a return to issue-based politics and strong leadership, stating, “The time has come to retrace our steps and return to the days of robust ideas, ideologies and inspirational figures.”
He praised Nigeria’s early political leaders, including Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, Sir Ahmadu Bello and Chief Obafemi Awolowo, saying they tried their best despite their imperfections.
Momodu further expressed concern about the current state of politics, claiming that “the politics of gangsterism has become unbearably malignant in our nation.”
He stressed the need for stronger unity between northern and southern Nigeria and concluded with a warning that urgent action is needed.
He said, “We must act before it is too late.”

ADC: Hayatu-Deen more competent, experienced than Atiku – Babachir Lawal
Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Babachir Lawal, has declared that a presidential aspirant of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, is more competent than the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
Lawal said Atiku’s experience can’t be compared to Hayatu-Deen’s wealth of experience.
Featuring on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, Lawal said Atiku and Hayatu-Deen are not on the same level.
Asked if Hayatu-Deen is more competent than Atiku, Lawal said: “Hayatu-Deen is more competent than Atiku. They can’t even be in the same boat.
“They are not on the same boat and not possibly talking of the same sea. For years, he was Chairman of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group, NESG.”
Atiku and Hayatu-Deen participated in the recent ADC’s presidential primary election aimed at deciding the party’s flag bearer for the 2027 election.
While Atiku emerged the winner after polling the highest number of votes, Hayatu-Deen came third behind former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, who came second.

I have evidence ADC primary was rigged – Babachir Lawal insists
Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Babachir Lawal, says he has evidence that the African Democratic Congress, ADC, primary election was rigged.
Featuring in an interview on ‘Politics Today’, a programme on Channels Television on Monday, Lawal said he was in the field and monitored the exercise.
He said whatever the supporters of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar said was not true, adding that a thief would not accept he is a thief.
“Don’t forget I was the National Vice Chairman (Northeast). I was in the field during the exercise, so I have evidence.
“Atiku’s people are the ones lying by trying to deny what they did. We are all human beings. We know what they did.
“I knew the primary was rigged at the point it was being done and the results being declared,” he said.
