Lagos 2027: Hamzat’s governorship bid gains momentum as Ojelabi, Obasa, others declare support

The governorship ambition of Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, received a boost on Thursday following backing from key figures within the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Among those who expressed support were the Lagos APC Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, and Senator Ganiyu Solomon, alongside other party stakeholders.

This came during a series of consultation visits by Hamzat to party leaders across the state.

He first visited the APC secretariat on Acme Road, Ogba, where he met with Ojelabi and members of the State Working Committee.

He also held separate consultations with Obasa and Solomon at their residences.

Speaking during the engagements, Hamzat outlined his vision for Lagos, emphasising the strategic importance of the state to national stability and development.

“The truth of the matter is that if Lagos fails, Nigeria will have problems and we must not fail.

“We must ensure what happened in 2023 should not happen again in 2027. We must ensure a resounding victory for our leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in the next election and ensure a similar victory for APC in Lagos.

“Our opponents are trying to de-market our election, simply because they cannot win. This is why they’re doing everything possible to disapprove of the good things that have been done by the Tinubu administration,” he said.

In his response, Ojelabi assured Hamzat of the party’s backing, expressing confidence in his leadership qualities.

“We will support you, we trust you and we are very confident of your competency and humility,” he stated.

At a separate meeting hosted by Obasa, former Minister Musiliu Obanikoro also commended Hamzat, describing him as capable of sustaining Lagos’ growth trajectory.

“Lagos must not decline, but must grow higher and higher. With Dr Hamzat at the helm, Lagos will continue to soar,” Obanikoro said.

Obasa, in his remarks, described Hamzat’s candidacy as settled, stating that his emergence had effectively been “sealed.”

Similarly, Solomon urged residents of Mushin to participate actively in the electoral process, stressing that voting remains the clearest demonstration of loyalty to the party and its leadership.

Peter Obi: They’re trying to bring NDC to its knees – Moses Paul

FormerChairmanship candidate of the Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC, Moses Paul, has described the crisis in the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, as a ploy by the enemy to bring the party to its knees.

Featuring in an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Prime Time’ on Thursday, Paul said the agenda is to cause division among the party leader, Seriake Dickson, the presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and Sen Rabi’u Kwankwaso.

He added Peter Obi did not nominate any candidate, stressing that people are trying in all ways to ensure that there is chaos and anarchy within the NDC.

“The agenda is to bring NDC to its knees. To the best of my knowledge, Peter Obi did not nominate, and he did not influence any of all of those.

“What gets to happen, especially with what you see with the NDC, with Peter Obi, and Kwankwaso moving in, is that people are trying all kinds of things to ensure that there is chaos and anarchy, even within the party.

“So, they’re trying to ensure that they bring division, especially within the three wise men, like I will call them, Peter Obi, Senator Kwankwaso, and also Senator Seriake Dickson.

“I’m saying that here, so that the world can know, and the followers too can know that this is the agenda to ensure that this particular party, where Peter Obi is, is brought down right to its knees,” he said.

Disclose every ‘incriminating information’ against Peter Obi – Ex-presidential candidate to Okonkwo

Former Presidential candidate of the National Interest Party, Eunice Atuejide, has challenged the African Democratic Congress, ADC, chieftain, Kenneth Okonkwo, to bring up all evidences against Mr Peter Obi in court.

Atuejide threw the challenge on Thursday while fielding questions in an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Prime Time’.

She said she is an ardent supporter of Peter Obi, and does no want to follow anyone with criminal records or a man the public cannot scrutinise.

“I challenge Kenneth Okonkwo to disclose in court everything he has against Peter Obi that incriminates him.

“I want that scrutiny for my children’s sake. I’m following Peter Obi with all my heart, all my life, and I don’t want to follow a man that has criminal records, whom we probably cannot scrutinize.

“One of the reasons I’m happy to do this is that my children are seeing everything. They are happy that mommy is following a man that at least is different from all the other politicians we have known in Nigeria. So, I need Mr Kenneth Okonkwo to absolutely publish everything.

“And I have told my leader that I’m going to demand that he continues this case in court, so that everybody that has every information that incriminates him, I want to see them,” she said.

Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa has declared that primary elections of various political parties are mere contest and not to be seen as war.

Obasa said this in his democracy day message to the people of the State and Nigerians in general.

The statement was signed by his Special Adviser on Research, Media, and Documentation, Adeshina Oyetayo.

Obasa, in the statement made available to DAILY POST, explained that politicians must strive to ensure internal cohesion, dialogue, and mutual respect.

While speaking on the June 12 struggle, he maintained that it remained an epochal date in the annals of Nigeria.

“Every June 12 remains a powerful reminder of the sacrifices of our heroes past and the enduring resilience of Nigerians in the defence of freedom, justice, and democratic values.

“This day commemorates the sacrifices of pro-democracy heroes. Twenty-seven years into our Fourth Republic, we reaffirm our unshakeable faith in democratic governance as the best path to national development and individual prosperity.

“Party primaries are contests, not wars. We must prioritise internal cohesion, dialogue, and mutual respect. Let us resolve differences through democratic means, strengthen our structures, and remain focused on delivering good governance to Nigerians.

“A united APC will not only consolidate democratic gains but also position the party to continue driving national progress and stability,” he said.
