NDLEA raids old BUK site, arrests six over drug activities
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kano says it has carried out a raid around the old site of Bayero University Kano (BUK), arresting six people linked to illegal drug activities and shutting down several drug spots.
The operation was led by the Kano Strategic Command under Commander D.Y. Lawal.
This is contained in a statement signed by Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics and Public Relations Officer for NDLEA Kano Strategic Command, on behalf of the commander.
He said the raid followed a formal complaint from the university’s management about individuals trespassing and using parts of the campus and nearby areas to sell and consume illegal drugs.
Under an operation known as Sharar Mafaka, officers moved in and removed those involved.
Six suspects were arrested, while items connected to the illegal activities were seized and destroyed.
“This action demonstrates our commitment to ensuring a drug-free environment where students, staff and their families can live and work in safety,” said CN Lawal.
“We will never relent. We will continue to dislodge and occupy all drug joints under Operation Sharar Mafaka.”
The NDLEA said the raid demonstrates how cooperation between the agency and institutions such as BUK can enhance safety. It noted that the university’s prompt report and support made it easier to respond and eliminate what it described as a serious threat to the campus and surrounding community.
The agency also warned that it will not tolerate the use of government or educational facilities for drug-related activities.
It urged members of the public and institutions to report any suspicious activity so that remaining drug spots can be identified and shut down.

NAF bombs terrorist hideouts in Sambisa, fighters reportedly killed
The Nigerian Air Force has intensified its counter-terrorism operations in Borno State following fresh air strikes targeting terrorist hideouts within the Sambisa Forest axis.
The development was disclosed in a press statement posted on the official page of the Nigerian Air Force on May 26, 2026.
According to the statement, air assets under the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI carried out precision strikes on identified terrorist camps and logistics structures at Biramiri in the Gezuwa area of Borno State after receiving Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance reports.
The Nigerian Air Force stated that the operation destroyed key facilities used by the insurgents while several fighters were reportedly neutralised during the coordinated attacks.
The statement further noted that the sustained air offensives have disrupted the activities of terrorist elements operating within the Sambisa axis, limiting their movement and access to safe locations.
The military added that the operation forms part of ongoing efforts by Operation HADIN KAI and other security agencies to maintain pressure on terrorist networks across the North-East region.
“The coordinated attacks destroyed key terrorist facilities and neutralised several fighters, further crippling the operational capacity of the insurgents,” the statement read.
