Benue South senatorial hopeful on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dr. David Olofu, has charged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remain independent and neutral ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The frontline senatorial aspirant gave the charge as he officially picked his nomination and expression of interest forms at the party’s National Secretariat, Abuja on Thursday.

Olofu said credible elections remain critical to deepening democracy and restoring public confidence in the electoral process.

“We have picked the form. In fact, we are the first to be issued the form and, therefore, I believe that during the election, we are going to be the first to win. INEC should remain independent and neutral in the conduct of elections,” he stated.

The exercise attracted massive support from party faithful, youth and women groups, cultural dancers and supporters across party lines, creating a carnival-like atmosphere around the venue.

The large convoy of supporters caused traffic gridlock in parts of Abuja as supporters marched in solidarity, chanting songs and displaying banners in support of the aspirant.

Among notable party leaders present were the Benue State ADC Chairman, Rt. Hon. Samson Okwu; Secretary of Benue State Leadership Team, Prof. David Salifu; ADC Deputy Chairman, Zone C, Mrs. Abeje Egwa, alongside other stakeholders and local government party chairmen from Benue South.

2027: How I will tackle unemployment, corruption in Nigeria – Peter Obi

Published

The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has outlined ways to tackle unemployment, underemployment and corruption in the country.

Speaking on Saturday shortly after his emergence as the the NDC presidential candidate ahead of the next year’s general elections, Obi harped on support for the growth of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, MSMEs, as a criterion.

According to him: “Our large pool of talented youth remains largely unemployed.

“The current official unemployment rate of 4% grossly misrepresents the true situation; actual underemployment and unemployment in Nigeria exceeds 30%, with youth unemployment sitting at over 40% – among the highest globally, necessitating urgent intervention.

“We will address this by aggressively supporting the growth of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, MSMEs, through targeted tax incentives, special interest rates, and accessible funding in sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, entertainment, sports, and distribution. These improvements will be both measurable and verifiable.”

Speaking on corruption, the former Anambra state governor said Nigerians will witness a tangible and verifiable reduction in corruption and the baseline costs associated with governance.

He noted that public resources will be managed with absolute transparency, prudence, and accountability to ensure that every naira spent yields demonstrable value for the citizenry.
