Khabib Nurmagomedov’s Warning to Khamzat Chimaev Resurfaces After UFC 328

Published

Khabib’s Nurmagomedov’s warning to Khamzat Chimaev prior to his UFC 328 title loss to Sean Strickland has re-emerged and reveals a lot.

Strickland beat Chimaev to win the UFC Middleweight Championship in Newark, New Jersey on Saturday night in a result that shocked many. The 35-year-old took the gold via split decision, with two judges scoring the contest 48-47 in his favour while the other having the same scoreline in favour of Chimaev.

The triumph saw Strickland become a two-time middleweight champion. By contrast, the defeat was the first of Chimaev’s 16-fight professional career.

Outspoken American Strickland first won the 185-pound belt in September 2023, losing it in his first title defence the following January, against Dricus du Plessis at UFC 297.

It was Du Plessis who Chimaev ultimately beat to raise the middleweight crown. The 32-year-old is a notoriously fast starter, known for shooting for takedowns at the earliest opportunity.

The tactic had served Khamzat well throughout his career. He was able to take Du Plessis down immediately at UFC 319 last August and went on to control the South African for more than 20 minutes as he took a wide unanimous decision win.

Speaking during a podcast interview with Adam Zubayraev last year, Khabib had warned that Chimaev would likely struggle if he wasn’t able to keep his opponents on the ground.

“I always had the same game plan,” Nurmagomedov said of his own grappling-heavy style. “I was taking the fight to the ground and I would attempt 100 takedowns if required, but you don’t see that in Khamzat’s fights.

“He usually starts going full wrestling, and when it doesn’t work out, he starts striking with those guys while he is gassed.”

As it turned out, Khabib’s predicted exactly what ended up happening at UFC 328. After dominating the opening round with his wrestling, Chimaev appeared exhausted as early as the second round, with the now-former champion having to pull guard on several occasions due to his tiredness.

For much of the remainder of the fight, Chimaev and Strickland ended up battling it out on the feet, which is exactly where the challenger wanted the action to take place. Khamzat’s apparent lack of cardio has led to criticism being levied at the fighter’s strength and conditioning coaches.

However, Khabib’s comments suggest Chimaev’s true issues lie in his tactics during fights, arguing that he should avoid striking with his opposition whenever possible.

In the immediate aftermath of the fight, Khamzat told UFC CEO Dana White that he would no longer be competing at 185 pounds, blaming his sub-par performance on a tough weight cut.

With it appearing that Chimaev will be heading to the 205-pound light heavyweight division, it remains to be seen if he will switch up his style in accordance with Khabib’s advice.

Published

An update has now emerged on Manchester United’s interest in Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall from journalist Luke Edwards.

Hall has emerged as one of the most exciting young left-backs in Europe over the last couple of years, but he struggled to nail down a starting place in Eddie Howe’s side towards the end of last season.

GIVEMESPORT sources recently confirmed that Hall is considering his future with the Magpies after being left devastated by his omission from the England World Cup squad.

It’s understood that Manchester United are one of the sides showing an interest in signing Hall as he aims to impress Thomas Tuchel for the future.

Hall was playing behind Dan Burn for Newcastle in the final weeks of the season, and Tuchel ended up calling up the latter for the World Cup.

Reliable journalist Edwards has provided an update on Manchester United’s reported interest in Newcastle defender Hall.

Edwards claims that Newcastle have not had any contact from the Red Devils and have not been informed that the player wants to leave.

As it stands, Manchester United have clearly not held club-to-club talks, which is no surprise as they undoubtedly have other priorities.

There’s no doubt Hall will be frustrated with his situation at the moment, in terms of club and country. He’ll at least be hoping for a guaranteed start next season.

Newcastle Could Struggle to Keep Hall

Newcastle United left-back Lewis Hall celebrating

Newcastle might find it difficult to keep Hall at the club heading into the summer transfer window, especially if a club like Manchester United are in the race.

The Magpies endured a difficult 2025-2026 season, meaning they won’t be playing European football next campaign.

The Red Devils will be able to offer Hall Champions League football and a club heading in the right direction under Michael Carrick.

Newcastle took a huge step back last season, and it’s no surprise that Hall is disappointed with his situation after failing to make the England squad.

At one point, it looked like Hall would be a guarantee to start at left back for Thomas Tuchel’s side.

Tottenham in Talks to Sign Free Agent Striker Dusan Vlahovic

Tottenham are preparing for one of their most crucial summer transfer windows in their recent history after being involved in a relegation battle during the 2025-2026 season.

It’s the first window under new manager Roberto De Zerbi, and the hierarchy will likely be looking to back him in the market.

The Italian manager certainly did a good enough job in his first few months in charge to warrant the club backing him.

There’s an argument to suggest that Spurs need reinforcements all over the pitch in the summer, especially as there’s likely to be players that will want to leave the club.

So far this summer, Tottenham are already closing in on the double signing of Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson, who both look set to arrive on free transfers, GIVEMESPORT understands.

According to a report from TeamTalk, Tottenham are one of the sides to have held talks with the camp of Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Serbian forward looks set to leave Juventus this summer when his contract expires, and it’s claimed that he would prefer a move to a European side despite interest from Saudi Arabia.

A host of Premier League clubs have also spoken to Vlahovic’s camp. Many are likely to see him as one of the bargains of the summer due to his free agent status.

An announcement on Wednesday confirmed that Vlahovic would not be signing a new contract at Juve, and he’s now free to join another club this summer.

Vlahovic’s Wage Could be an Issue

Although Vlahovic is going to be available on a free transfer during the summer transfer window, Tottenham are still likely to have to pay him a significant wage package.

Reports have claimed that Vlahovic is demanding in the region of £266,000 a week, which is certainly a lot for a club like Tottenham.

Vlahovic, described as being one of the best strikers in the world by teammate Khephren Thuram, hasn’t been at his best in the last few years.

There’s no doubt Vlahovic would improve Tottenham’s striker options, but they have to weigh up whether it makes sense from a financial perspective as well as a football one.

F1 Driver ‘Under Pressure’ to Save His Job Heading Into Monaco GP

The 2026 Formula One season may only be five races old, but one driver is already “under pressure” to save his job heading into this weekend’s Monaco Grand Prix.

The current campaign couldn’t have gone any better for Mercedes, who have won every race to date this season. Many other teams, however, are struggling for pace amid the raft of technical changes that have been introduced for 2026.

As a result of the ever-changing nature of the sport, teams are consistently evaluating their approaches, including who is driving their cars.

Even those who have shown signs of improvement seemingly aren’t exempt from the chopping block as a new report suggests that an F1 team could be preparing to cut ties with a driver who has scored points in three of this year’s five races.

New Zealand’s Liam Lawson is no stranger to having to battle for his spot on the F1 grid, having been demoted from Red Bull to sister team Racing Bulls after just two races of the 2025 campaign.

The 24-year-old was then forced to fend off competition from Yuki Tsunoda to retain his seat in 2026. To his credit, Lawson has made a creditable start to the new campaign, racking up a total of 16 points.

To put that number into perspective, only Max Verstappen (43) has more points this season within the Red Bull family. Verstappen’s Red Bull teammate, Isack Hadjar, sits on 14 points, with Lawson’s Racing Bulls colleague Arvid Lindblad having picked up just five points.

However, despite being impressed by the Kiwi’s start to the campaign, Racing Bulls could ruthlessly axe him if his results drop off. They already have his replacement in mind.

The Red Bull second string are increasingly keen to hand an opportunity to teenage F2 prospect Nikola Tsolov and a recent report from SoyMotor suggests that Lawson could be the man to make way for the talented Bulgarian.

The report notes that Tsolov is “knocking on the door” for a seat at Racing Bulls next season and believes that Lawson will find himself out of a job if he doesn’t continue to outperform his current teammate Lindblad.

Racing Bulls only handed Lawson a one-year deal in December, meaning that it won’t cost them anything to move on from him at the end of the season. Sources suggest that he will need to maintain a “clear advantage” over Lindblad in the Drivers’ Championship standings in order to earn a fresh contract and retain his seat.

That means that every race counts for Lawson, starting in Monaco this weekend.
