PRP picks Senator Shehu Buba Umar as Bauchi governorship candidate for 2027 elections
Senator Shehu Buba Umar has emerged as the governorship candidate of the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) for the 2027 general election in Bauchi State.
The announcement was made during the party’s special delegates congress held in Bauchi, where the primary election was conducted through voice affirmation by delegates.
The exercise was supervised by the PRP National Vice Chairman (North), Haruna Buhari, who formally declared the senator as the party’s flagbearer after the affirmation process.
“Senator Shehu Buba Umar has met all legal requirements, as well as the provisions of the PRP constitution and electoral guidelines. I, therefore, declare him the duly elected governorship candidate of the PRP for the 2027 general election,” Buhari said.
He explained that the process followed the party’s constitution, which allows affirmation where there is a single aspirant, noting that delegates unanimously endorsed the senator.
The state chairman of the PRP, Abdulraham Muazu, said the party was positioning itself for a strong showing in the 2027 elections, adding that the emergence of Senator Buba was a major boost for the party.
He described the senator as a strong political figure with experience and the capacity to win elections, expressing confidence in the party’s readiness to compete.
In his acceptance speech, Senator Buba thanked the party leadership and delegates for the confidence reposed in him.
He said he had fully integrated his political structure into the PRP after becoming a card-carrying member in his ward in Toro Local Government Area.
“I thank the leadership and delegates for this trust. I am fully committed to this party, and I believe together we will succeed in 2027,” he said.
He also expressed optimism about victory, saying the combination of party members and public support would work in his favour.
Senator Buba further urged party members, especially youths and women, to mobilise across communities and intensify grassroots campaigns ahead of the election.
The congress also saw the endorsement of 31 House of Assembly candidates, who were presented and approved by delegates in accordance with the party’s rules.

APC rigged its own primary election under INEC watch – Isaac Fayose [VIDEO]
Nigerian businessman Isaac Fayose has alleged that the recently concluded All Progressives Congress, APC, primary elections were rigged.
DAILY POST reports that the ruling party recently concluded its primary elections ahead of the 2027 general elections.
President Bola Tinubu was on Monday declared winner of the presidential primary conducted across the country’s 8,809 wards in all 774 local government areas.
The President was said to have polled 10,999,162 votes to defeat his only challenger, Mr. Stanley Osifo, who got a total of 16,503 votes.
However, video clips circulating on social media captured moments where the number of voters was allegedly inflated.
Reacting, Isaac Fayose, in a post on his official Facebook page on Tuesday, lamented that the ruling party “rigged their own primaries under INEC watch.”
According to him, if the Independent National Electoral Commission could ratify such an allegedly marred primary election, the outcome of the 2027 general elections would not be different.
He said, “They claimed that over ten million people voted for Tinubu in their primary election, but you could see how they were counting from hundred and jumping to one thousand.
“From one thousand, they jumped to ten thousand and INEC officials were there. Yet some people say they will not rig in 2027. They are rigging already. Don’t expect free, fair and credible elections in 2027.
“These people are not ready to leave us alone. They are ready to put you down forever. For INEC to ratify the APC primary election, they have shown you how 2027 will be.
“In 2027, they are going to declare ten million votes for our worst president.”

BREAKING: Amaechi rejects ADC presidential primary results
Former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has rejected the results of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, presidential primaries, alleging widespread voter disenfranchisement and electoral malpractice.
Amaechi, in a statement posted on his X handle on Tuesday, described the outcome of the exercise as “concocted results.”
He said he had earlier made it clear that he would only accept the outcome of the primaries if the process was free, fair and transparent.
“I will not accept results from a process that does not reflect the values that the ADC had pledged to uphold,” he said.
Amaechi alleged that about 80 percent of party members across the country were prevented from voting during the exercise.
“There’s no way that about eighty percent of members of the party were not allowed to vote, and you expect me to accept such results,” he stated.
The former Rivers State governor accused the party of engaging in practices it had previously condemned in the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
According to him, the ADC cannot criticize vote buying, rigging and manipulation of election results by others while allegedly engaging in similar acts during its own primary.
Amaechi added that the development was unacceptable and contrary to the ideals upon which the party was founded.

Tinubu receives Anyim Pius in Lagos
President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday received former Senate President and Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Presidential Primary Elections Committee, Anyim Pius Anyim, at his residence in Ikoyi, Lagos.
The former Senate President’s visit came less than 48 hours after he presided over the APC presidential primary election that produced Tinubu as the party’s flag bearer for the 2027 general election.
Anyim’s courtesy visit formed part of a series of post-primary engagements held by the president at his Lagos residence on Tuesday.
Photographs released by the State House also showed President Tinubu holding separate meetings with several governors, including Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu.
On Sunday, at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja, Anyim officially announced the results of the nationwide direct primary and declared Tinubu the winner.
As Returning Officer and Chairman of the APC Presidential Primary Elections Committee, he disclosed that 12,643,306 voters were registered for the exercise, while 11,069,756 were accredited and 11,015,665 votes were cast.
“It is therefore my duty as Returning Officer for this primary election to declare President Bola Tinubu, having satisfied the guidelines, the winner of the APC presidential primary election and hereby declared the presidential candidate of the APC,” Anyim stated during the announcement.
Tinubu secured 10,999,162 votes, defeating his sole challenger, Stanley Osifo, a businessman from Edo State who purchased the APC presidential nomination form for N100 million and polled 16,503 votes.
The primary election was conducted across all 774 local government areas and 8,809 wards nationwide on Saturday, May 23, 2026, marking the first fully structured ward-based direct presidential primary in the party’s history.
The exercise concluded a week-long APC primary timetable, which included House of Representatives primaries on May 16, Senate primaries on May 18, State Assembly primaries on May 20, governorship primaries on May 21, and the presidential primary on May 23.
