Labour Party picks ex-council boss, Obeya as Benue deputy governorship candidate
The Labour Party (LP) has picked a former council boss, Hon. Juliana Obetta Princess as its deputy governorship candidate for the forthcoming Benue State governorship election.
This came barely 48 hours after the party elected its governorship candidate, Mathias Byuan.
A grassroots politician, Hon Obetta served as a former executive chairman of Okpokwu LGA of the state and has built a career spanning community development and political mobilisation.
She has established a strong presence in grassroots politics and community engagement and served in president Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organization..
Unveiling the deputy governorship candidate in Makurdi at the party’s secretariat along Otukpo road, Byuan stated that the candidate was unanimously elected by party members in the state.
According to Byuan, “We have consulted widely with party stakeholders across the state and today, they have unanimously elected Mrs Julie Obetta as the first female governorship candidate who by the grace of God, come 2027 will be the first female deputy governor of Benue State.”
The governorship candidate described the choice of the deputy governorship candidate as part of the party’s program to include women in governance in 2027.
Byuan promised that the party if given the mandate would turn the state from civil service to industrial state.
In a remark, Hon Obetta said she was overwhelmed by the honor as the first female deputy governorship candidate of the party and promised to mobilize Benue women who constitute significant numbers to vote for the party.

2027: Jonathan not power-hungry – Former aide
Jude Imagwe, former Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan, has said that his principal is neither power-hungry nor power-drunk.
Imagwe made this statement during an interview on News Central Television.
He was reacting to the Taminu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, declaring Jonathan as its presidential candidate ahead of the next year’s general elections.
The ex-presidential aide said there is no indication that Jonathan received, completed or submitted any nomination forms related to a 2027 presidential bid.
“One thing is clear. That is the fact that I do not think former President Jonathan is power-hungry or power-drunk.
“If he was power-hungry, he would not have relinquished power in 2015. I also do not think that President Jonathan is desperate to return back to Aso Rock because clearly he hasn’t forgotten anything there.
“I also know clearly that Jonathan is where he is today through several sacrifices, through commitment, through discipline, through resilience, and above all, through humility.
“But the unfortunate situation is that certain persons that have masqueraded themselves with dangerous ambition to perpetually want to remain on the airspace of public conversation as regards 2027, have chosen to begin to drag an innocent gentleman’s name who, for reasons too, has still not said anything about it.
“What is clear is that there is nobody that gets a nomination form that does not have his or her signature on it, and such instances are ceremonial.
“There is no pictorial evidences that suggest that any of these documents were done by the former president,” he said.

2027: We saw Omo-Agege’s exit coming, he can’t be trusted – Delta Gov, Oborevwori
Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, says they saw the exit of former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, stressing that he cannot be trusted.
Oborevwori made this statement on Tuesday during an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Morning Show’.
Recall that Omo-Agege recently dumped the All Progressives Congress, APC, for the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, after losing at the senatorial primary election.
Reacting, the governor said, “We were aware of his exit, and that was why he was not serious in the context of the primaries, because he never consulted anybody, he never consulted me, he never called leaders.
“His departure is not a threat to us because APC is a big party.
“President Bola Tinubu is my biggest project and we in Delta are solidly behind him. Delta people were deceived earlier but not anymore.
“I can tell you categorically that no Delta person will vote against Tinubu. So we are not bothered about anybody leaving our party,” he said.

‘It won’t happen again in 2027’ – Oborevwori rules out Peter Obi winning Delta
Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has expressed confidence that the voting pattern that saw former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, win Delta State in the 2023 election will not be repeated in 2027.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Tuesday, Oborevwori attributed Obi’s performance in the state to support from the Christian community and non-indigenous residents, particularly members of the Igbo community.
The governor said his administration has strengthened its relationship with the Igbo community in the state and expressed confidence that they would support the All Progressives Congress, APC, in future elections.
According to him, the Igbo community did not vote against him during the governorship election and has continued to work with his administration in the interest of the state.
Oborevwori also said religious leaders who supported his political move to the APC had prayed for the success of the decision and would continue to support the party ahead of future elections.
He maintained that the factors that contributed to Obi’s victory in Delta during the 2023 presidential election have been addressed, adding that he does not expect a similar outcome in 2027.
The governor said he remains confident that the APC will secure widespread support across the state in the next general election.
He said: “First and foremost, the Igbo community in Delta State that did that in 2023 they never did it during my election, and we are on the same page.
“I’ve told them vote party this time. They will not vote candidates, they will vote party because of the love they have for me.
I have that confidence they will vote the APC.
“There are two factors that happen the other time, the Christian community and the Igbo, the non indigenous, but I’ve been able to manage them. The Igbo and I are working together for the interest of the state.
“I also believe that what happened that time would not happen again.
This is because the religious leaders, before I move into the APC, we notified them for them to pray for us. So you cannot pray and curse. They have prayed.
“So when the time come for election, I will still go back to them, say, “fathers of faith, when I moved the other time, you prayed for us. So for us to succeed, pray again for us to be victorious. So that’s the thing.”
